I used to live in Humboldt Park, which is 2 neighborhoods east of Austin, and one neighborhood north of West Garfield Park. The most shocking part about this area of the city is how you can go from relative economic prosperity to absolute poverty in just a couple of blocks. In particular, Austin is right next to Elmwood Park and Forest Park, which are two of the wealthiest suburbs in the entire state. You literally cross a street and you can instantly tell when you've entered Austin. People here still get by though. Austin is not nearly as bad as it used to be, but unfortunately we can't say the same for West Garfield Park. If you go anywhere outside of the area where the Garfield Park Conservatory is located, you're putting yourself at risk of being carjacked or shot if it's dark out. (Or sometimes even if it's daytime).
The craziest part of all this to me is that these sets are tiny and have just single blocks. Long gone are the days of big groups covering the city, now it's just who's in your apartment complex.
What’s crazy is these stats are spot on. I grew up in Englewood, my high school only had like 800 people and how my 4 years we had two 15 y/o boys shot and killed.
Good ish trap lore. I like how you shined a light on this community despite the lack of talented, and not so talented, rappers providing a paper trail/public record on Twitter and UA-cam of their mindset and environment. So while it might not be as "sexy" it's equally deserving of awareness. 🙌

Haven’t watched yet but I feel he’s going Garfield Park (west) with this. I grew up in Austin for the majority of the last twenty years, quite close. Austin itself was the worst for…quite a while.
Still remember as a freshman going to a baseball game out to Austin HS, shit changed my perspective of the different sides of Chicago. Going to school up north had kids from all over but once you actually been in the neighborhood, definitely gives you a feeling where you gotta be more attentive. Garfield Park is lovely too, I fw the conservatory they got there.
I stay in Aurora which is the suburbs. I have lots of family in the city but I rarely go out there. I only go to the city for the occasional concert or to see my auntie.
Southside is reckless shooters and they all gotta jump the dan ryan so they eachother more. Westside hit their targets and more smooth with it. Them country ass Southsiders on too many drugs. I've got friends that live in both.
I live in the south suburbs of chicago where it is very safe. I drive through West Garfield Park maybe once or twice a year to get to a certain hockey rink. It truly looks like a 3rd world country there, there were houses with collapsing roofs and empty plots everywhere. It truly is a whole different world.
Thank you for acknowledging and highlighting the people in these communities who are trying to fix this problem. There are people like this in every neighborhood with high violence, but people will try to tell you that those who are against police brutality don’t care about black men killing each other. Plenty of people care. It’s just a complex problem that’s the result of decades of intentional disenfranchisement.

I wish this was a little longer lol great video though
Thnk you for making a video abt Garfield park yo it’s hell on earth frfr

Outsiders like: who? West Garfield park? Wait it not o block?
OBlock isn’t the most dangerous anymore everyone knows that & this isn’t the most dangerous place either this is the place that has the most innocent deaths the whole city is the most dangerous you’ll die everywhere

Not that unusual I knew old folks who had never been out the neighborhood when I was young they were born lived worked and died all in Pilsen.

Oh awesome, I'm sure both organizations are full of upstanding citizens you can trust to walk amongst the rest of the population.

I remember a few years back an entire 1% of East Garfield Park’s population got shot in a single year. That whole area’s crime is insane
so if you live in west garfield for 80 years... bro that's a crazy chance of being shot
This guy is obsessed with Chicago
Unfortunately the local politicians aren't
Yeah, its pays his bills were watching the videos
What’s crazy is these stats are spot on. I grew up in Englewood, my high school only had like 800 people and how my 4 years we had two 15 y/o boys shot and killed.
To two and too. You choose the first one but that is actually the wrong answer. You were close though 🎉
@@hankhill3126 choose and chose have separate meanings. One is a present progressive verb while there other is past tense.😂
@@fredcasanova4944well you shouldn’t of put the word “are” in your sentence.
Good ish trap lore. I like how you shined a light on this community despite the lack of talented, and not so talented, rappers providing a paper trail/public record on Twitter and UA-cam of their mindset and environment. So while it might not be as "sexy" it's equally deserving of awareness. 🙌
Man I wish this was longer, this is crazy, America is a wild place. Rest in peace to everyone who lost their life to the streets 🕊️
Yes I love the shorter videos. The long form videos are cool, but sometimes being able to hear some other stories in shorter format is nicer than waiting for a big video. Nice job Ross. Keep up the good work ❤

Haven’t watched yet but I feel he’s going Garfield Park (west) with this. I grew up in Austin for the majority of the last twenty years, quite close. Austin itself was the worst for…quite a while.
Can you lmk what’s it been like over the years plz
Still remember as a freshman going to a baseball game out to Austin HS, shit changed my perspective of the different sides of Chicago. Going to school up north had kids from all over but once you actually been in the neighborhood, definitely gives you a feeling where you gotta be more attentive. Garfield Park is lovely too, I fw the conservatory they got there.
Always someone else’s fault.
I can smell it through the screen
I absolutely love Twista Music.
I stay in Aurora which is the suburbs. I have lots of family in the city but I rarely go out there. I only go to the city for the occasional concert or to see my auntie.

Such a great cultural contribution to society, yay America
Stop using reddit as a source pleeease. These guys are regurgitating stuff they see on the internet, and like chinese whispers, the truth gets distorted. These are 13 year olds from the suburbs, noone from the raq is going on reddit to discuss the activity theyre involved in. Theres been so many popular posts n comments that later came out to be complete bullshit, a lot of em you actually used in other vids, thats why i remember em.

A former Lawndale & Garfield Park resident here. I can tell you that from my experiences in living in Garfield Park, it was indeed rough. I’ll never forget that day on December 2017, when I was almost shot myself after coming home from school (I went to Jacob Beidler at the time). I’m glad that my mom moved out of the neighborhood before things really got outta hand.

West Garfield is insane. I go to an underground techno club that borders that area, and have heard a triple homicide happen 2 blocks away from the club. And that’s just me, who usually will gladly tell people Chicago is safer than people say.
Those of us from Chicago have always known the West Side is the worst.
