Solomon said those words for his son to hear but it's poignant that Danny was there to hear them as well. He also grew up in war. It is not unlikely that he was once just like Dia. He did bad things but not because he was a bad person, and there is still a chance that he can be redeemed.

When you finally get to this scene it leaves you with happiness that Solomon made it this far but it still leaves you with so much dread because you know what it took him to get here and that it will take so many more of him to make a change , Dijmon gave a lifetime performance in this movie , some of the scenes still still stick with me to this day , how far will a father go for his son . God it still rattles me to my core, incredible and underrated movie
This scene SLAYS me every single time. If I want to know that redemption exists, that good fathers exist, that hope exists… I always return to this scene.
I like to think that this was the same message Danny would get from his father when they were reunited in the hereafter. “I know they made you do bad things, but you are not a bad boy. I am your father who loves you and you will come home and be my son again.”
If you guys like this movie you should read “A Long Way Gone Memoirs of a boy solider” it’s a amazing book about a child who became a child soldier at the age of 12.
