the 364 egg record was over one hundred years ago. Yes good egg breed, but don't treat it like it was last week or last month -- very much misrepresented. Most hens lay about once every 25 hours, with a day or two off (5 in 7 days type of thing). That leghorn that went 374 some odd eggs in 364 days was cycling quite quick, and would likely weaken the hen before she could be mated and eggs hatched. I would suppose that we would be approaching a point of diminishing returns much past (less than) 24 hours.....r
What people don't understand is that just because you have an Australorp doesn't mean it's the same breed as the one that laid that many eggs whenever somebody invented a new chicken back in the day most backyard breeders would just use their chickens to breed to the standards. What I'm saying is one chicken hatchery that calls their breed a australop can be a completely different bloodline altogether from the next Hatchery and can be completely two different birds they just look alike and have the same name
@@kuyanarvin Americans Whenever there was a new chicken invented most backyard breeders and chicken hatcheries just took the birds they already had and started breeding them to the new standards. Like the Barred Rock for instance can get both barred rocks at McMurray Hatchery and you can get them at cackle hatchery but they can be completely two different kinds of Birds is bread to the Barred Rock standard their formulas can be different how they get there and each formula will perform different in different areas
