@Trisha Murray in the beginning she explained the cat lawyer poster. it reminded me of the "texas cat filter lawyer" case that happened a few months ago in the US.
I hope that man who refused to abandon his baby finds a good wife and mother.
The real story is that they had a choice to raise the child in Armenia , and the baby wouldn't get the support he needed. Or for the husband to take the child to his home country of New Zealand where medical care for the baby is more readily available. The mom couldn't go, so they decided on the option to divorce. The husband falsely stated otherwise, even though there is proof of the plan they had set ahead.

@@amandab8433 She has since moved to NZ as well and the last report is they are still married and living together. At one point a gofundme that was for the father was over $500k. If I was cynical I would wonder if that was the plan all along.
Straws are a scapegoat as they’re easy to change so they don’t have to actually do anything that involves effort for real benefit

Straws break down into microplastics which are extremely harmful to birds and marine wildlife.
Out of all of the sea turtles which had been tested, 100% of them had ingested plastic. Also, many times before they break down into microplastics, straws will get lodged in the throats of dolphins.

Also, let's not forget, if you complaint about packaging sustainability but still buy a product like that, you are part of the problem. Yes, we need a political solution because out of goodwill nothing will change, but why give these companies your money of you can easily avoid it?

I think the straws became a scape goat when that video of the sea turtle with a straw stuck up his nose went viral. It was one of the first viral videos a lot of people saw that really showed the horror of what some simple thing we toss away without a second thought can do to a poor creature. The long uncomfortable pain you saw it go through to get the straw out was enough to make most people pay attention to their plastic waste more but not take the effort to look much more into the problem past the whole straw discussion
And back in my day, the scapegoat of choice were those 6 pack can holders with holes.. those would get stuck around the necks of marine life and slowly kill/suffocate them
Reminds we of when that rubbish documentary SuperSize Me came out and everyone used as an excuse to pressure McDonald's into changing their menu, as opposed to looking at the wider scale problem.
They also eat plastic bags in the water, since they resemble their diet of jellyfish

Exactly. While all single use is problematic, is easier to spread the message with something visual and easy to understand.
I always get sad when Charlotte says, “We got time for a few more” because I know that means it’s almost over. 😞

The straws remind me of Starbucks' similar stunt: when they announced a couple years back that they would be getting rid of plastic straws and using a new lid design, it turned out that the new lid used more plastic than the straws and the old lids COMBINED. But both Nestle and Starbucks are garbage corporations, so....
I actually tried for the first time a few days ago the paper straw and i have to say i don't like it.
1. It feels weird, but i guess you will get used to it with time.
2. I had a milkshake and i like to let it melt little, so because i never used a paper straw (it actually came in paper not plastic the straw) i put it in immediately after purchase and by the time i started to drink my milkshake it started to get soft, so it was a weird experience.
But i did learn something if it's paper straw don't put it in till u actually want to drink or maybe if it takes you long to finish take it out when you are not drinking. 😁
@@Ally.81 yes and if you are out at dinner or a bar, the straw will literally melt before you finish your drink, SOOOO annoying.
@@stefaniekay8699 i guess if that is the future, we just have to keep the straw out and only put it in when we drink. Not sure how healthy that is, but it's either that or drink fast, you can't just enjoy it anymore 😁

That reminds me of the first time i played a drinking game. Thwy didn't really explain so each time i lost i actually drink one or 2 mouth full, not just sipping like you are supposed to do. Let's just say my friend had a good laugh on my account.

Yay! Congratulations on upcoming driving license, I failed mine 4 times as I couldn't parallel park (I live in a very rural area and never had to) on my 18th birthday I tried again and I DID IT (unfortunately I put the car into reverse and backed up over the curb to pull out but the kind Officer handed me my pass card and said Happy Birthday don't let me down) 20 years later and I've still never parallel parked
I avoid that if I can.
My city stopped requiring people to parallel park the year before I went to get mine, 1980, all that practicing for nothing. Thanks, Alabama DMV. I had it down perfect too, didn't get to show it off. Ironically the only place I ever needed to parallel park was in front of the county courthouse to register newly bought used cars or go pay a ticket. lol
I do parallel parking if nobody behind me AND the space is biiigg enough to deal with my poor skill 😆

omg the paper straws! I totally heard Tom MacDonald lyrics "Hallelujah, everyone, activism saved the planet No more plastic straws in paper Just paper straws wrapped in plastic, congratulations!"
To me it seems that more paper straws in plastic is still better than more plastic straws in plastic. But perhaps I am wrong.
@@jukka-pekkatuominen4540 Plastic straws mostly come in paper. A few companies swapped it so appear to be more Eco-friendly. Pandering for pandering sake. I do highly recommend glass, silicone or hard reusable straws.
@@leika67 Yes. For personal use I can see the difference. I have several stainless steel straws at home (which are way better than the plastic ones).
But I can see why companies don't put those to every product.
I know, right? I’m actually sipping on a Frappuccino-stye drink from Costa Coffee right now, and the whole big cup and lid are plastic...but the straw is paper. And getting soggy and annoying. It’s so dumb. If anything, they should have made the cup and lid paper, and the straw plastic, because at least that way I would still be able to use it! And anyway, the cup uses a lot more plastic than a straw does!
@@jukka-pekkatuominen4540 Yes, but Charlotte was on point when she said it's all just a gimmick, they don't really care. Paper straws are just a drop in a bucket when compared to ALL the thousands of other plastic packaging & containers we use & throw away every single day😑
I remember when they first started doing those "green" toilet papers without the cardboard roll in the middle, I forget which brand it was but my aunt bought a huge like 24 pack of them, brings them home, rips them open, and they were EACH INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED IN PLASTIC! (which makes me think it was marcal bc scott usually wraps in paper) we all (my aunt, cousin, and myself) just looked at each other like 😶 and had to laugh bc how ridiculous it was
Reminds me of some of the clothes my store gets. They're made out of recycled plastic bottles so they're supposed to be taking trash out of the environment. Kinda hard to see how when they come individually wrapped in plastic bags and usually have another sheet of plastic or wax paper to protect the logo.

And the green toilet paper sucked, when you needed to wipe you needed 2-3 times more than normal tp or might as well use your bare hand 🤢🤢😡😡

@@marek9081 A lot of cars would stop for you, my cruise control adjusts speed to match any vehicles in front of me and will speed back up if they switch lanes. I still dont trust it enough to take my feet off the pedals.

Just keep in mind, while you're completely free to speak whatever language you choose, your ability to receive help and support when in need can be greatly diminished in this country based on your ability to read and speak the most common languages, whatever they may be in your region.
Not entirely true... individual states have existing official language laws on the books. So yes, no federal law or mandate but left to individual state law.
@@suemommie True, however it is worth noting, the majority of states to actually adopt an official language were only done within the last 35 years despite many holding statehood for well over a century or two (ironically, several of the most recent states to adopt one did so because their previous setups were ruled unconstitutional as written). Also worth noting that in most cases, an official language has almost zero meaning outside of legal documents or government business.

This. I'm a single guy, never married, but I always wanted to have a daughter. I wouldn't care, if my child would have any condition; if she was sick or anything bad would happen to her I would lie, cheat, steal and kill just to save her. I always thought this was a norm. Our children are the only future we have.
Honestly think it's for the best, that man and child deserve a loving wife and mother and clearly that women is incapable of it. Some people do more damage and make the lives of their families miserable by staying. Best to rip the band-aid off and more on with building better life. Hopefully his family and friends provide a good support system.

Straws, when floating in the ocean, resemble sea grass and turtles seriously injured themselves trying to eat the straws. It was never about the quantity of plastic in them, but people just assumed that and ran with it because the dangerous straws were the ones made of plastic.
Repeating the claim that its about plastic is as disingenuous as claiming that kneeling before a sportsball game "disrespects the troops". You might say it's a ... straw man.

The Metro story about the Father divorcing his wife because the baby has DS comes from Russia where they have a different (and very wrong) view of disabled people. They are slowly changing the culture but slow is the word.
The fact he didnt want to abandon the baby makes him a stand up dad.
She divorced him because he wouldn’t abandon the baby -- ( sorry , wording can be so significant and it read as if he left her and the baby because of the baby being born with DS and I had to double check real quick)

Men abandon their children all the time, women abandon their children. It’s not just Russians.
I'm not sure of actual statistics, but in most countries of the world it's the WOMAN who ends up A. Having to take 24/7 care of a disabled child. Usually solo, even if married. B. Never having another day off until she actually predeceases the affected offspring and C. Getting covertly and overtly blamed, when out and about, for having a defective child. On this one, I'm kind of conflicted. Down Syndrome children aren't usually incredibly difficult to care for, but you will, as the carer parent, have to outlive them, or die wondering if they're going to be taken care of in your absence. I've actually had a woman in her late 70's crying on the phone with me, because she KNEW she couldn't do all this 24/7 stuff much longer, ill health, and a son who was disabled and going to be at the mercy of the system. So...I can actually see that mother's point, to a degree.
With the Nestle one at 2:21 I feel the exact same way about Tims using paper straws for the iced capps -_- (which is an entirely see through plastic cup for those who are not familiar with Tim Hortons) I collect Mcdonalds straws to use for them 😏

Actually, San Diego is named for Didacus of Alcalá - aka Saint Diego - a catholic francsican brother who lived in the 1400's and was later canonized as a Saint in the late 1500's
No, the name James in spanish is Jaime. Diego is the same in both languages.

They banned plastic straws in the EU but not the packaging. Nestle did not decide this on their own. All juice boxes here are like that now.
Before they were plastic straws in plastic wraps, so it is less plastic now. Wrap is for hygiene.

I had such a vivid dream about a tornado on our street, I mean like parallel dimension real. For years I thought it happened. I didn’t know till I was teenager and was bold enough to ask.
