Victory Amps, Perth's The Rock Inn and yours truly bring you the V40 "The Duchess". The Duchess is an award winning, 8.2kg, 2-voiced, portable, 40W powerhouse of classic 60's-based tones that will have your guitar singing and your pedalboard smiling. It looks cool and sounds even better.
This V40 was sent to me for review a little while ago by The Rock Inn but was quickly appropriated by my friend, Josh Owen, who has been using it obsessively on the road and in the studio for the past couple of months. So, who better to demo it?
Many thanks to Josh, Victory Amps, Greg Collins at Sonic Frog (Palmer cab), and the excellent crew at The Rock Inn.

This is one of the best sounding amp demo videos I've ever heard! I was erring towards this amp anyway, as a pedal platform, but I think you guys might have sold me.
Did you buy the amp? Any thoughts, cause I consider buying one but unfortunately I could only try the V40 deluxe myself.
I've had this amp for 3 month and I've never been happier with my sound.
Are you still happy with it? People seems to think it’s quite dark sounding... Do you think too?
Excellent demo! Great sounds!
@Brett Kingman I saw this demo and instantly ordered one V40 with this palmer cab... Could you please answer me how this cab handles the v40; I mean is 25 watt cab isnt it dangerous to pair it with a 40watt amp;; Thx in advance!
This is a true boutique amp gem that would likely blow away any guitarist would personally tries it out.
It's the perfect mini touring amp.
It has a PCB so it's not boutique
flobeeone kinobee Still boutique... Still made with a-lot of care.
Hey Brett, how do you like that Palmer 1x12? Ever compared it to pricier/larger cabinets?
Blimey - this is the first time I have heard this amp and been left impressed, others just make it sound flat - nice one :-)
Unbelievably great tone, i mean this is it for me lol
WOW!!! Im impressed!! Im in the market for a new amp and this might be up my alley.
I was about to sell my V40. After watching this I’m reminded why I bought it. Think I’ll keep it!
Did you keep it? And why did you think you might needed to pass it on?
I could say there's nothing fancy there, but, of, how I want to replicate those licks!
It helps that Josh is a kick arse player. Nice work fellas.
I recognise Josh. What bands is he playing with in Perth? Also what's the multi effects pedal in the background next to the blues cube? Looks like a BOSS one but not one I have seen? Anyway great demo. Will be heading down to the Rock Inn to try it out.
Beautiful.
is the voicing thing, like having two channels??
can they be changed with the foot switch?
nah it's single channel, you can't switch it by pedal
Hi Brett,
how do you like those Palmer cabs? I've noticed you use them a lot.
They are half the price of an Orange cab, so I'm thinking of getting one for my Victory Sheriff V22 (when it comes out).
Keep up the good work, cheers from Czech Republic.
Hugo Melo Hey mate, I'm also getting a v22 pretty soon with a palmer cab, how good is it for you?
I noticed the Roland Blues Cube in the background. Any plans to demo that?
+JELIFISH19 Yep. Coming up shortly.
I dont know much of technical stuff but is this 40W in 25W speaker?
I see the amp is in the "high" position.
Which is a bad idea. However, since it has a master volume, then you can be forgiven for playing on lower volumes, even on the high 40 watt setting, cause the master allows for less wattage to be pushed through the amp. But you're absolutely right, it's dangerous
Always a little bit crunchy ? Or we can get a very clean sound ?
You can get a very clean sound. Turn down the volume and turn up the master.
Dang those staches!
I've heard a lot of people say they liked the amp in the first place, and got fed up with it's overall tone after a period of time..
Well, this amp really sounds awesome in this demo, but I feel after listening it twice times in a row (yeah I did that😂), it becomes ear fatiguing and a bit squeacky..
I find it more Vox territory than Fender.
But it's maybe UA-cam anyway, and would be happy with it.
Next purchase for me
Such a pity that they are only available to try in WA, i know people around the world like to say, yeah thats the same country, but a 3 day drive to try an amp out is just a little toooo far. lol.
+Brendan McLaughlin For what it is worth, I picked mine up from the Rock Inn on Saturday and have not stopped playing it since. I sold my Jackson Ampworks to get this (with matching 1x12 with Creamback) and what you hear on this vid, and others, is 100% accurate. Wouldn't normally buy without trying, but this is worth it.
My 2 cents!!
Just bought one. It’s knockout. Takes pedals beautifully. I use a few higher gain sounds than this chap. But I’m not disappointed. It sounds nice and chunky.
Your EP booster is always on ?
Are these things affordable?
UK Price is £899! Handmade in the UK so that is a very good price in my opinion!
What tubes are in this - EL34 or 6L6?
El 34 !
Both a Polara and a Flint interesting...

Reverb's amp 👎very bad.
The internal decay setting changes nothing to the acid sound.
Spoils the sound
(DeepL Translation)
It sounds nothing like a blackface, and I don’t mean in a good way.
It is not a Blackface, for sure. What it is is a really nice amp with a lot more modern features than a Blackface. And you can actually get nice sounds out of it without blowing out all the windows in the building.
