I'd love to see Tom Isted win one of these. He kept the crowd happy putting runs down while we were waiting for over 2 hours for the event to start. Definitely a man of the people. Seems like a really humble guy too.
It was a weaker run from Emil but this was a rough competition for everyone. Emil may not have deserved a 90s score but it’s important to consider how many tricks he’s still doing that nobody else can do. He gives the judges something new every time and I can’t lie the nollie 360 can can was pretty sick.

I’ve said it time and time again, Emil’s style isn’t superior, he’s just popping out way more new tricks than the rest of the field combined. When someone else has a more progressive and complete run than him they will win, until then Emil is the goat.
I'd love to hear an unfiltered interview with Tom Isted post the event. He seemed pretty frustrated for hours before it finally got going and then was amping up the crowd at the bottom trying to get 2nd runs after Emil crossed the line. I get the feeling that the 'riders decide if they ride' in weather/light etc may be weighted more heavily to certain riders. The fact they were all lapping for 1-2 hrs doing tricks and with no sketchiness means they should have started the comp earlier! If there were 1 or 2 features effected by the sun then adjust your tricks on just those jumps. Don't sacrifice 50% of the whole event for 0.005% of it!
the worse part is the 1st half of the field get screwed as for as scoring!!! speed and style got messed up, the advanced kaiser but never deducted the 2.25 points he crashed twice and missed a gate and still won over Bas!! they do the math on the screen and then they talk to judges but they never deducted the points!!! They showed the points for the tricks, the time, when you add it all up!! this whole joy ride was messed up!!!

I feel tom was hard done by. That run should have been scored higher or the others lower. You have to admire Emil's technical ability but tom and dawid are putting their lives on the line with banger after banger and getting less marks than 20 bar spins.
The difference is the completeness of their run as a whole. David and Tom tend to focus on about 4 big tricks in their run then make up the rest of it with filler non progressive tricks. Emil is winning because he’s packing his runs to the brim, every feature gets a super technical crazy trick that few if not no other people can do. He does a worlds first almost every competition where as David’s been doing twister no handers since 2019. The judges have seen it and they’re getting bored

I think since Tom had 3 flip tuck no hander variations that he was placed appropriately but his run was still sick. I completely agree that Emil should not have gotten a 92. He completes any run at all and is immediately thrown into the 90s. So unfair to people like Paul and Tom that are giving it 100%

Man Emil is a beast. And ridiculously consistent. Does things no one else can do, always wins, and still manages to be less exiting to watch than many other riders.
This Joyride was very frustrating for the riders and for the public ! Riders couldn't foresee that there would only be 1 run, they would have planned their runs differently... There was a huge lack of equality between the riders Plus there are huge spots of lights why not used them? or postpone run 2 the next day?
Red Bull doesn't know the word postpone. Look at this year's Hardline and the most recent Rampage as prime examples. They're clowns and need to start working in 3 day holds or something into the schedule.

On Hardline it's also Isted (and couple other riders) who uploaded content with their smooth runs while RB's officials were crying it's too wet and too dangerous for DOWNHILL. Isted did his biggest tricks and gets to the bottom of the run but got a relatively low score. Seems like the only way for other riders to win is to scrap their riding style completely and learn other tricks like opposite 360 whips etc. Hopefully slopestyle and it’s judges communicates with its riders because it’s seems technicality is massively more important than big tricks and their is little point sending double flips etc if an opposite 360 with a variation scores higher

Emil isn’t winning because the judges think technicality is more important, he’s winning because he’s doing more worlds first tricks than anyone else. Anyone with a totally different riding style can beat him if they bring as many new tricks but nobody can, because the kids just way too talented. With how hard he’s working and how consistently he’s riding it would be straight fucked up to give anyone else the gold.

Sorry, I absolutely love Emil and the fact he is pushing the sport, but that run wasn't 92. Tom definetly deserved the win for a much more dialed, clean and banger run. Plus, as a frenchie I have to say that not doing 2nd runs is just taking out the opportunity for two potential winners: Dawid an Tim wich both had more in the bag and are surely gutted. I don't really like saying this but this joyride was going to be the since brandon semenuk/brett rheeders era, and it was kind of a flop personally. to end on a positive I'm so happy for paul max and tom(still3rd) who had difficult runs and injuries in the past and now they can do great things!
Still an epic contest despite the weather not cooperating. That's how it goes sometimes with mother nature, what can you do about wind? My only suggestion is consider gettting a handful of stadium lights put around the boneyard area for Joyride. Start at 8:00PM when the wind always dies down. You get 1) golden hour footage 2) show time "under the lights" vibes and energy after sunset for 2nd runs
Hate to say it, but I can’t stand Emil basically learnt 4 things on bike in standard and oppo way, which is: -backflip, -360, -barspin, -tailwhip, and judges rewarding almost the same runs for couple of years now. Sick of this to be honest.
Love this it's sad to see only 1 run there for this year...bmx has 3 or more runs in similar events...wud b sick if crankworx adopted that...also what happen to best trick comp that should be in all courses 🎉

No way Emil's run was the best. France should have been First. How much longer will the judges keep favouring Emil ....He didn't even do any multi rotational tricks
Paul was robbed. Emil dropped some bangers but also held back a little. Paul went 100%. Tech is great but boring after a while. Emil doesn't throw double backflips or 720s. Even Cam said it should have been Paul. The crankworx judges always always giving it to Emil has actually made me like Emil sunstantially less.
It’s almost as if the competition is rigged, can’t wait for there to be a change in Crankworx! Otherwise wits completely uninteresting to me…Paul and Tom got robbed!

Only half event this time. Luckily that has been rare before. Tom Isteds passion for the sport is awesome. Great run by him, well deserved podium. Wish he could have made made a flipwhip or straight double tailwhip on the final stepdown, woul'd have helped his score a lot. Nice to see Szymon there again. Love his style, sad hi messed up a little too much on the quarter. Feel like Dawid missed a matchball this time going too big on the final stepdown. Congrats to Paul landing his best run yet. Great timing almost got gold but finally on the podium. Bravo Emil! Being able to know how to fly high enough with a broken wing is a big trick on it's own.

Jokeride, Emil was hurting and his run was already bad so they stopped the event so no one could improve. I am not hating on Emil but whatever he does he wins and whatever enyone else does he is behind Emil. The events are getting more and more boring because of it. I want to see bangers not 360 barspins on every jump in both directions maybe with whip...

Am I the only one who doesn't care if a 360 is oppo or not? I know it's more difficult oppo, but it's still the same trick. I mean, you could do a backflip and close one eye which makes it more difficult, but this shouldn't score much higher!
Naah, don’t agree. But, mostly a culture thing thou. Gymnastics, tricking or even skateboard (if i remember correctly) is totally unintrested in oppo and doesn’t add points for it…
There are so many riders that don’t do any opposite tricks because of how awkward they are. They don’t necessarily look cooler no, but doing an already dangerous trick with combos as well essentially left handed if you’re right handed is way gnarlier than most people realise
i hope they get alot of negative feedback from yesterday's incredible dissapointment. they make all the rules that benefit themselves. moneys the root of all evil as they say. man im pissed at this lack of respect to the ones who give it there all and pay their bills. 70 000 people that got 50% of what they came for and if they paid anything to be there, they should be refunded 50% of their admission fee. great job crankworx, you made every rider happy to start their 24 season...... unbelievable.....
Slope style judging is getting a bit boring, they put far to much on oppo tricks and tech stuff and not enough on the big crowd pleasers like double flips and super flips. I don’t think most people care if you do the same trick regular and oppo 🤷♂️
Such a shame that riders couldn’t take their second runs but Emil Johansson only needs one to get the job done there are two riders of the day for me max Fredrickson and ice T Max and Tom are officially 3ed and 4th best riders in the world a big accomplishment for both riders We all hope torquato testa injuries are not too bad that was a heavy slam GWS
Tom isted definitely shouldn't have been 2nd... Emil's run was good but not near the smoothest at all... Toms run should have taken the win... The crowd and riders were definitely not provided what they needed it should have been postponed and had it another day or had second runs the day after... Surfing events and others are set in stone for 2-3 days for weather and issues this biggest event on the calendar each year it needs to be changed to allow two days for the comp to be on... Whistler wins and so do others as it brings in more revenue and if there are problems it's over two days....
Uhhh, why didn’t they start the comp earlier? I get there was a delay due to an injury, but don’t we expect that and factor it in? David had another one up his sleeve for sure.

Firstly many people don't realize that riders at the beginning thought they have two runs. As soon as judges and RB's officials had some base make their puppy win - they've canceled 2nd runs because of some ridiculous reason. No one says Emil couldn't win. But it was just unfair.
Ah yes, pack 3 filler tricks into a 360 and tell people you're revolutionizing the sport 👌 You can tell from Emil's body language in the corral that even he doesn't think he should win. Both at Innsbruck (although he was panicking there so had to try to amplify the score with his 'world first' comments) and now Whistler - same story.
92.4 is a joke, amazing run but didn’t they used to apply factors to the score for precision, landing accuracy, peddle slips etc.? It was the same at the last competition, he never should have won it. They’re adjusting the scoring to cater to Emil’s strengths and tricks. Red Bill athlete at a Red Bill event…
Never seen Emil front flip, cash roll, or double backflip anything. He is good but does not deserve this win along with a couple others. Judges are biased and gurgle his nuts

They kept delaying the start due to wind. I left at 530pm and it was still windy. You can see it's almost sunset.

Sorry, I absolutely love Emil and the fact he is pushing the sport, but that run wasn't 92. Tom definetly deserved the win for a much more dialed, clean and banger run. Plus, as a frenchie I have to say that not doing 2nd runs is just taking out the opportunity for two potential winners: Dawid an Tim wich both had more in the bag and are surely gutted. I don't really like saying this but this joyride was going to be the since brandon semenuk/brett rheeders era, and it was kind of a flop personally. to end on a positive I'm so happy for paul max and tom(still3rd) who had difficult runs and injuries in the past and now they can do great things!

Still an epic contest despite the weather not cooperating. That's how it goes sometimes with mother nature, what can you do about wind? My only suggestion is consider gettting a handful of stadium lights put around the boneyard area for Joyride. Start at 8:00PM when the wind always dies down. You get 1) golden hour footage 2) show time "under the lights" vibes and energy after sunset for 2nd runs
Finally some new tricks from Emil
His newest best trick is changing rules in the middle of the event to secure the win even while injured 🤡

Hate to say it, but I can’t stand Emil basically learnt 4 things on bike in standard and oppo way, which is:
-backflip,
-360,
-barspin,
-tailwhip,
and judges rewarding almost the same runs for couple of years now.
Sick of this to be honest.
Love this it's sad to see only 1 run there for this year...bmx has 3 or more runs in similar events...wud b sick if crankworx adopted that...also what happen to best trick comp that should be in all courses 🎉

@@RobbyKingGodziek always relies on like 4 bangers in his run then does filler in the rest of it when Emil is going ham all the way down the mountain. That’s the difference between first and second really. I agree the cashroll tailwhip and twister no hander are more impressive but he’s been doing them for years and the judges are bored. Emil always does something new

Paul was robbed. Emil dropped some bangers but also held back a little. Paul went 100%. Tech is great but boring after a while. Emil doesn't throw double backflips or 720s. Even Cam said it should have been Paul. The crankworx judges always always giving it to Emil has actually made me like Emil sunstantially less.

Only half event this time. Luckily that has been rare before. Tom Isteds passion for the sport is awesome. Great run by him, well deserved podium. Wish he could have made made a flipwhip or straight double tailwhip on the final stepdown, woul'd have helped his score a lot.
Nice to see Szymon there again. Love his style, sad hi messed up a little too much on the quarter.

Jokeride, Emil was hurting and his run was already bad so they stopped the event so no one could improve. I am not hating on Emil but whatever he does he wins and whatever enyone else does he is behind Emil. The events are getting more and more boring because of it. I want to see bangers not 360 barspins on every jump in both directions maybe with whip...

Am I the only one who doesn't care if a 360 is oppo or not? I know it's more difficult oppo, but it's still the same trick. I mean, you could do a backflip and close one eye which makes it more difficult, but this shouldn't score much higher!

Naah, don’t agree. But, mostly a culture thing thou. Gymnastics, tricking or even skateboard (if i remember correctly) is totally unintrested in oppo and doesn’t add points for it…
There are so many riders that don’t do any opposite tricks because of how awkward they are. They don’t necessarily look cooler no, but doing an already dangerous trick with combos as well essentially left handed if you’re right handed is way gnarlier than most people realise

Slope style judging is getting a bit boring, they put far to much on oppo tricks and tech stuff and not enough on the big crowd pleasers like double flips and super flips. I don’t think most people care if you do the same trick regular and oppo 🤷♂️

Such a shame that riders couldn’t take their second runs but Emil Johansson only needs one to get the job done there are two riders of the day for me max Fredrickson and ice T Max and Tom are officially 3ed and 4th best riders in the world a big accomplishment for both riders We all hope torquato testa injuries are not too bad that was a heavy slam GWS
Yeah, of course Johansson needs only one run cause his are so overrated imo.
Tom isted definitely shouldn't have been 2nd... Emil's run was good but not near the smoothest at all... Toms run should have taken the win... The crowd and riders were definitely not provided what they needed it should have been postponed and had it another day or had second runs the day after... Surfing events and others are set in stone for 2-3 days for weather and issues this biggest event on the calendar each year it needs to be changed to allow two days for the comp to be on... Whistler wins and so do others as it brings in more revenue and if there are problems it's over two days....
Uhhh, why didn’t they start the comp earlier? I get there was a delay due to an injury, but don’t we expect that and factor it in? David had another one up his sleeve for sure.

I think two groups of fans have developed in terms of what they want. Technicality vs going big (high amplitude flips & spins).

Firstly many people don't realize that riders at the beginning thought they have two runs. As soon as judges and RB's officials had some base make their puppy win - they've canceled 2nd runs because of some ridiculous reason.
No one says Emil couldn't win. But it was just unfair.

You can tell from Emil's body language in the corral that even he doesn't think he should win. Both at Innsbruck (although he was panicking there so had to try to amplify the score with his 'world first' comments) and now Whistler - same story.

92.4 is a joke, amazing run but didn’t they used to apply factors to the score for precision, landing accuracy, peddle slips etc.? It was the same at the last competition, he never should have won it.
They’re adjusting the scoring to cater to Emil’s strengths and tricks. Red Bill athlete at a Red Bill event…
Never seen Emil front flip, cash roll, or double backflip anything. He is good but does not deserve this win along with a couple others. Judges are biased and gurgle his nuts

judging others based on half-knowledge... prooves you have a great personality - NOT ... think about learning more about the sport before you judge anyone or just do not comment ;-)
