KA Bar has maintained their brand. You have to understand 80 years ago it was a Fantastic knife. There was zero comparison out there. Today another story. Don’t beat the old KA bar up. It does what it was meant to do kill, trench, open cans etc.

Yeah kind of like the WWII spec 1911 pistols, they were amazing for their time but eventually have become outclassed on essentially every metric including cost. The only real reason to get one now is for the aesthetic or historic appreciation. A $35 Cold Steel SRK is superior to the Ka-Bar in every possible way.

Great overview @Isaac the Noob Backwoodsman. The sheath looks more quality on Ka-Bar, SOG looks plasticy. SOG is twice the price of A Ka-bar. For that I think i'd choose the USMC, can sharpen on a rock if need be.

I mean no disrespect because I know many people love the k-bar, I do too but I've always thought of it as half a knife half some sort of lever tool. Two things you get a very steep angle of sabre grind so if you put a double bevel you're getting a very thick angle edge and then the point is entirely geared for strength. I mean it's perfect for a soldier who's mostly using it to open tin cans and crates but both the tip and edge are very uncutty. As I'm writing this I'm wondering maybe if that is actually better, the salt has got a more of a delicate tip and edge. That would normally be my preference because I like sharper knives. I mean I think of the key bar is being indestructible because it is where is the sog that tip is waiting to be broken off but on the other hand it's a more potent knife particularly if you're dressing game. Maybe I need both.
