I bought one knowing that the males fight, but kept getting told that they are also highly social fish that can get timid if left alone, so I'm glad I was able to find someone who could confirm that makes are fine if left alone. I just hope my school of 12 embers keeps him company while also letting him be the big fish and booste his confidence

A small note about dwarf gourami diet-- Watch your protein content. What I'm seeing is that dwarf gourami tend to get constipated easily with higher protein foods. Variety is of course key, but I actually use algae wafer chunks and Fluval Bug Bites (spirulina formula, it's the green one, you can't miss it) as mine's daily feed and he's been doing pretty well on that. The algae wafer I have is not a particularly "good" one, especially given the first ingredient is fish meal, but it has a protein content of 33%. That, in conjunction with the fluval bug bites having a ton of spirulina, black soldier fly larva, and a protein content of about 37%, seems to be doing very well. Once again, that's just the staple, and treats and variety will really make them shine. Try to keep that protein lower, though. I visibly saw my gourami become bloated from eating the fluval bug bites bloodworm flakes, and let's just say he kinda stayed that way till I got some better food for him the next day.

Great. I went to the pet store and asked about these, I asked if I could keep them together about 4 in my 140liter tank, they was all males, they said yeah no problem and now I’ve just seen this video now they are already in my tank

Hi there. I’m a new pet fish owner and currently have 2 female dwarf gourami in my 37L fish tank. I know the advice is to give a pinch of flakes at feeding time is recommended alongside however much they can eat within 2 minutes. However, I’m not sure how big a pinch of flakes is enough or if two minutes of eating time is sufficient, especially as one of the two fish is ready for feeding time as soon as I near the tank, whilst the other one isn’t and she manages to eat most of the food .. can you do a video on actual fish feeding showing how much food you put in please? I’ve struggled to find this in pictures despite my Google search so I thought someone with a title like Nerdy Fish Girl sounded like just the person to help 🥰.
    Many thanks

I have a 20 g long with zebra danios , oto cats and now a dwarf gourami . So far so good but the gourami definitely seems shy and the danios .. well are danios and can be a bit much for any fish . I’ve heard that you shouldn’t keep danios with gouramis because they (gouramis) are used to a gentle atmosphere but I’ve heard they make okay tank mates . We’ll see !

I have a 23 gallon Community Tank with one male dwarf gourami, 4 skirt tetras and several neon tetra (and a few nerites). The gourami doesn't seem to notice the smaller neons at all, but he does seem bothered when the skirt tetras come into his space. i thought he wouldnt be bothered by them since they are smaller than him and not colorful, but he chases them out of his space, which is front and center.

That is probably because you have received misinformation about what an actual female IS, sorry to say but you probably have 2 males unless the female is a silvery colour with very faint dwarf gourami stripes. Anyways hope they are are still getting alone fine and living happily!

@@ItsSweetShot Yeah the “female” is definitely a male. He’s since grown a more pointed dorsal fin. He just seemed like a female at first because his dorsal fin was rounded and he’s got a fat little belly lol. But they both get along fine for the most part, they just chase each other around every now and then.

Great video. I have two males the smaller one seemed to be frightened. He was swimming erratically and staying at the bottom. I took him out and treated him for swim bladder disease but I don’t know if he’s going to make it. I did an epsom salt dip for 20 minutes in a small critter tank and changed the water with prime and then added a little aquarium salt. I also boiled some frozen peas and peeled one and out it in the little tank. He is still alive but lying in the bottom of the tank. I put an almond leaf in my here as well. I hope me makes it. Thank you for all your videos.

I have been doing a lot of research the past few days because Ive stupidly watched a few videos on YT including this 1 and went out and bought 2 females and 1 male WELL.. what I thought was 2 females in actual fact they were ALL males despite listening to the advice that the females are curved dorsal fins INCORRECT female dwarf gouramis are mainly silver or a very dull red and blue, the ones that are a very vibrant blue and red striped color are 100% males and it amazes me how much false information there is floating around, and the ppl that say 2 vibrant blue and red gouramis have lived together fine that is because 1 of them is probably a sub dominant male and or they have a nice personality BUT you wont be breeding them!
