Another great video Andy. "Before the internet".... Hmmmm...... I'm doing some consulting for a company and during a conversation I mentioned "before WiFi" and one of them asked "What do you mean, before WiFi?". I looked around and realised that not one person in that company is old enough to remember "before WiFi", let alone "The internet" !!!!
Thanks for watching! My wife is a high school teacher and she tells me stories like this all the time!
Good stuff. Been a woodworker my whole life always liked talking and seeing others projects.
Exactly right. My FB business page is 90% of my orders and even though marketplace is not the same as it was(used to be a gold mine) its still working for me. I'm always 2-3 months out on orders, tons of return customers and word is mouth is working well. My advice, good thumbnails! Get a good camera....if the thumbs suck they don't look. Great video again man.
Awesome. Good for you. Keep killing it!
I watched this video the other night and posted a couple things at 2am and had a sale by 6am. Now I need to be consistent with it. Thanks
Awesome!
Bro you are a Solid Dude!!!! Thanks so much and Keep up the great work.
This is good information. I've been pretty much doing all of this for the past three years and have to yet get my "big break". I probably need to post a lot more pictures and probably video or two. I have made a number of sales but over all in three years I've probably only cleared about $2500.
I'm an absolute firm believer in not only luck, but being in the right place at right time.
The internet lis over saturated with woodworkers peddling their wares and I'm a drop in the bucket.
I haven't given up, but am absolutely frustrated. I keep at it hoping for luck to fall my way, or for me to be in the right place at the right time.
Great video and advice!
The maker that got me started in woodworking told me it was folly to run a UA-cam/insta page because its too labor intensive. I had the thought you did in this video. A digital portfolio is awesome and when my friends say hey I seen you were this and that, makes my heart feel lighter.
It comes back to what are your goals? There is still very powerful benefits to using social media without trying to be an influencer.
@@AndyBirdBuilds I want my digital presence to be more of a portfolio, and then as an influencer/ maker. I hope I can drive people to try new things and get out of their comfort zone, for sure.
@@houseofwood240 I see it as a separate business. Based on what I have seen on youtube, most CNC/Woodworking people make more money being on youtube, social media, and affiliates than they ever do actually selling products. So I see it as a second business in addition to the woodworking projects.
It's the same idea of how people get rich by selling you a book about getting rich.
Creating community and being apart of online communities is a new space. Something in very excited to explore.
These communities are super powerful!
That’s is great advice! Thank you!
Spot on advice from real world experience, thanks for sharing Andy!
Right on, Cory! Glad you enjoyed it
Once again Sir great inspiration. All your videos keep me thinking about what is yet to come.
Glad you're enjoying the content!
Hi Andy...great content. No matter what I hear from different youtubers pertaining to starting your business....I always hesitate because I work too many media and I always think...I have no focus and no specific niche...lol I have a very well equipped shop, I`m retired and I work metals, glass, jewelry, woodworking, electronics, laser engraving, plasma cutting, mold making, thermoforming, leather work etc... Very hard to focus on A specific product line and every mentor out there always say FOCUS FOCUS....I just cant do that. Do you have any recommendations?? Would it create confusion if I had a website with so many diverse products... I really want to sell my stuff but I'm just not sure how to solve that issue...lol Keep up the great work I love your way of thinking and the work you do.
Thanks for sharing! Great advice. After 17 yrs of woodworking im finally starting my own official side business. Do you sell on etsy? I don't know how anyone can compete with all the undercutter/lowball sellers.
I would avoid etsy
Funny story, for the longest time I thought your channel was Angry Birds Builds.
It wasn’t until I saw Bob Clagget on ILTMS mentioned your name on his staircase video that I realized I read it wrong.
Hahaha. I get that a lot.
Very informative. Thank you, I just subscribed….
Welcome!
