I think we should expect Celtic to do well in the CL this season, but that doesn’t need to include winning the pot 1 away game. In the same way Falkirk were not expected to win last week, we are not expected to win this game, but we need to put up a fight.

We are Ange solid . The excitement without the helter skelter periods or big massive gaps in the midfield. I love using the word solid and Celtic in the same sentence. Tonight can tell us a lot we have the chance to measure ourselves against a giant .. if we perform well we can say we have arrived in Europe . It’s a bit like a boxer you really have to reserve judgement until you meet someone who is respected on the world stage . However the signs are really good.

We can't defend and play against pressured attack. We struggled for 11 minutes The Rangers did this . We will ship at least 2 goals regardless. Only hope is to play our normal game unless we are 2 up in the second half.

I understand people leave Perth for instance every week to watch us and sevco instead of staying to watch st Johnstone but it doesn’t appear that any of these clubs put any time or effort into attracting locals to their games, how are hearts and Hibs not sellouts every week, Motherwell have been a top flight club since 1985 and still can’t draw more than 4000 but will probably take 10 to 12000 to Hampton. Other than St Mirren who have done a great job recently these clubs have zero to complain about

I think Motherwell suffer from being right on the doorstep of ourselves and Sevco. Plus even most of their neighbouring towns (Hamilton, Airdrie, Coatbridge..) have football clubs of their own. Perth just isn't really a football town and never has been. The clubs that really should be doing better are the Edinburgh clubs and Aberdeen. Hearts have been showing signs now for 10 years or so, they even have a waiting list for season tickets, but they keep on appointing absolute dumplings as manager which is killing any sort of momentum they threaten to build up. Aberdeen have a huge catchment area up there and they have it all to themselves. It's a joke that they haven't done more to tap in to that over the years.

The population make up is very different in Aberdeen too, 25% of people who live there aren't from the UK, and about 10% of British people in Aberdeen aren't from Aberdeen. I worked in Aberdeen for 6 years and hardly anyone in my team or even in my company came from Aberdeen. It's a city which is reliant on incomers to work in the oil industry and as such they don't necessarily have any affinity with the club. Football is also more of a central belt sport.
It will be interesting to see if our style of play in a game that should be far more open given Dortmund's quality in attack if what we saw in Pre-seaon against Man City and Chelsea repeats. Give our attacking three space to attack on quick counters could really work in our favour to make the match up potentially an early contender for match of the tournament.

Can you please highlight Trusty’s half arse efforts at blocking 2 shots which turned into goals? Throwing a lazy leg or a lazy block when you could prevent a shot on target is mental to me. One of our many problems but it’s cost 2 goals. They are blocks he should be absolutely throwing himself at yet he just hung out a leg for each. Embarrassing. Nothing to do with settling in etc, just basic defending

Absolutely agree with melly .. The reality is we are quite a solid unit and play a progressive style . It’s madness to start changing what the players are 100% used to and adopt different tactics alien to the players particularly against the world’s top teams . It takes a long time to get a team drilled in a certain style thinking you can change it for one or two games a season to compete with best is stupidity. .. spent decades of watching Celtic trying all the tinkering for Europe and it’s torture watching keystone cop defending .. Reality is you start pissing about with formations almost certainly you will be pushed back and camped on your own 18 yard line . If players are uncertain they tend to fall too deep and the writing is on the wall.
I kinda get the other side, if you want to create a homeground atmosphere Spaghettihad where Celtic has 3 sides of the stadium is not the way to go. Sure you miss out on money but you dont wanna feel like an awayfan at home. You have to start building a fanbase. Other teams like Hearts and Hibs have good stadiums and potential to grow into bigger clubs but are instead stuck yoyoing not only within the prem but in and out of it, too. There's an understandable focus (bordering on Hyper-focus) on tonights game because as you point out, we've not played a team of this level yet this season. But I think it's important to remember that it is only one match and a lot of random things can happen in one match that can easily turn a good performance in to a defeat and vice-versa. I get the impression that there is an army of Celtic fans just hovering over their keyboards ready to write off our great start to the season (if we lose) or declare us the greatest Celtic side since the Lions (if we win) It's just the nature of online discourse sadly. There's very little room for middle ground these days. I really do hope we get a result or at least avoid an absolute doing, because I just cannot be arsed with the online meltdown that would follow from a 3+ goals defeat.
