The "Coronation Cup Song," associated with Celtic Football Club, was written by the Irish folk singer and songwriter Glen Daly. The song celebrates Celtic's victory in the 1953 Coronation Cup, a football tournament held to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Celtic won the tournament by defeating Hibernian in the final, and the song commemorates that achievement. Glen Daly was known for his love of Celtic and also famously performed the "Celtic Song," which became an anthem for the club.
Glen Daly was born in Glasgow.
Cheers for that, it'll be played in my house shortly!
Bartholomew Francis McGovern .. Glasgow Irish and Proud ..Darn the hell do we care for we only know that there's going be a show and the Glasgow Celtic will be there Hail Hail
Much love for the songs by glen ❤
..."all Hampden was covered in green white and gold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' and If you know your history!
I have always liked and admired Neil Lennon and I always will be. Anyway, like the rest of us, Tony knows that a percentage of supporters within Celtic are absolutely entitled fannies - I call them the boo bhoys - if a pass goes astray, they are shouting the building down, constantly berating etc. It is one of the reasons I gave up my season tickets, due to the negativity and all the shouting of obscenities when I was in Parkhead with my children. (I regret it now, obviously).
Loved that watched every minute. Will be donating for both statues to be erected. Shame on the club for not doing it themselves.
This man was our local legend during Rab C.
Halloween in Hogganfield was awesome because of Him and his wife when I was a nipper in the early 90s, trick or treating at Tony's was tell a joke or sing a song 😂 they where so nice and so generous 💚🍀💚
More like it Acsom with Tony Roper a brilliant comedic talent and writer who sums up everything that is great about working class Scots making a success. These podcasts really are about the broader working class culture of great Scottish figures and the stories from Roper were so entertaining. These pods are about Scottish culture so thanks for doing them.
I used to see Lennon in tenants in Byers road. I never spoke to him but I saw him posing for pictures and just being a regular guy enjoying a pint
Im now living in yorkshire. but born and bred in Anderston st vincent street Glasgow and remember my dad telling me about Roddy Mcmillan living near us. and the singer Donavan? I miss the old days. this interveiw with tony has been magic. thankyou Acsom.
Absolutely tremendous episode, very funny.
That was a great watch..just brilliant
I was a a few parties in Jimmy mgrorys house we where friends of her school pals jimmy had the match ball from the coronation cup in a glass dome on his sideboard
I've commented recently about Lennys treatment after 10inaR, this just cements my comments on what a true Celtic legend he is 💚🍀💚
That another great pod love this we shows get a great laugh they are pick me ups only a young 66 just love CELTIC HH DUBLIN
Tony is great craic, and a great Celtic man!
i remember my dad telling me about the coronation cup 1953, he told us the whole country wanted that prize.
Brilliant chat Paul John . Tony Roper really has a wealth of wonderful stories to tell and of course he has the greatest gift of all and that is A Celtic State Of Mind. Hail Hail 🏴🇮🇪
Brilliant interview, Acsom absolutely smashing it out the park, none of us are perfect and in this modern age we are so quick to bring people down and slaughter them. Neil Lennon is Celtic to the core, He would give his all for Celtic and that should be good enough.
What a great channel this is. I’m addicted. A Blades fan. SUFC
Great to have you on board Antony 🤝
Tony is surely up there with greatest comedians and entertainers Scotland ever produced; from Rikki Fulton, Jack Milroy, Robbie Coltrane, Gregor Fisher, Big Yin, Stanley Baxter. Folk rant and rave about Still Game and the likes, but they're not a patch on Rab C - series 1-6. The best Scottish sitcom for me, absolutely timeless! Cheers for the laughs, Tony, Hail Hail! 💚
another brilliant Friday podcast again ACSOM.The Neil Lennon stories were great.
Listening to Tony Roper is a delight; his candid manner, devoid of any pretense, a great ambassador for Celtic. I could listen to his stories for hours and only wish it lasted longer.......
Not on a bum note!
Brilliant series, brilliant guests. Keep them coming Paul John 🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️
I am only leaving just the small tip, because I need to save the rest of my pocket money for the Tommy statue (not Sheridan), and perhaps enough change for an Irn Bru and a Macaroon Bar! I watched the morning podcast, Jim Orr his usual worst critic, you were most certainly not a passenger, but also why would you not want to just listen to Tony. There is people who would buy that chair from you. All three hosts were great at prompting and poking, this could have been a three hour show! You have to watch to the end, I almost pished myself for the fifth time. What a legend Tony, incredible stories. These shows are top three for me now in great TV behind Gone Fishing with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse and W/ Iona. Please keep Jim at an end seat, everyone wants that side view of the glorious mullet. 😍
Jamesy!
Lovely story about Neil Lennon, his wife and their generosity of spirit.
Saw Tony once at CP standing in Celtic end in the late 80s. Top bhoy 👍
I’m 15 minutes in…never seen Jim so quiet!
A great listen👏👏💚⚽💚⚽One Neil Lennon💚⚽💚⚽
This won’t be popular but Tony Roper didn’t seem to have much time for Jim Orr. Was Tony a Kellys and Whites sympathiser?
Thought the opposite to you, especially during the very last story
Loved that Tony is an absolute legend.
Mind regularly seeing Tony standing in the Celtic end, great show but having an embarrassment like Sheridan on kills it for me.
You are correct,Sheridan is an apology for a man
Was it Dukla Pumperston Sawmill Antanery, pardon the spelling, on the cassettes?
That’s what I remember George.
Those comedy writers were unreal.
Jim looked well impressed at the end 😏
Brilliant bhoys Neil Lennon legend hail hail
Get Sean Combs of Garryowen on
How about a follow up podcast with Tony Roper reminiscing about on his acting career alongside Gregor Fisher aka Rab C Nesbitt…..???
tonys 83 , jesus

I always thought the Coronation Cup song was written by 'Mick Garngad'.

Brilliant lads gŕeat stories
What a change from having that Galloway on last week.
Aye, that was probably the biggest misjudgement the channel has ever made. They've redeemed themselves this week though.
@@Johnniebhoy83 well said Johnny bhoy
I love these interviews. Much better than the daily boring patter 😜😘
🤣 variety is the spice of life.
It’s fascinating to hear these stories.
