I'm from Hardanger in Norway. The river in my hometown used to be one of the best salmon rivers in the country and it has been completely destroyed by fish farms. The vast majority of salmon are now escaped farm fish full of parasites. A few years ago me and my father spotted a fish in the river that was almost completely white from fish lice and totally blind, he walked into the river with a spear and stabbed it, it was too frail to resist and didn't even seem aware that anyone was near. For years we have petitioned and protested to no avail, the farm companies act like they own the fjords. Please don't buy farmed salmon, when you do you're helping to destroy a fjord that is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Bruh, my Costco sometimes like once a year has Alaskan king salmon but the rest is Atlantic farmed salmon. How do I get salmon then? I’ll spend more money for wild and fresh salmon but it just not available.

I just bought Norwegian smoked smoked salmon from Aldi’s (Florida) a few weeks ago. Afterwards I looked at the ingredients, and googled them. Although minor compared to what I’ve just witnessed, they also use an additive that makes the flesh a deeper red.

This issue is the same with every farmed fish, they swim in their own poop and have to be kept "healthy" by adding pesticides and drugs. Wild caught fish can also be problematic though, thanks to humanity polluting the seas more and more, it's a sad state of affairs and today we should stay clear of most fish, it is no longer a healthy food.

I just started buying farm raised salmon from Trader Joe’s bc it’s so affordable. I should’ve known why. A few days ago, I saw a clip about the fish being injected with pink/orange dye to mimic healthy salmon. The problem is also that "wild caught" label. The fish farm sets up nets farther out. Then the fish are let go out of the farm. The fish swimming in the "wild water" are caught up by the nets for that wild caught label. But it was still farm raised.

It’s very interesting that you refer to the Native Seminole’s. I use to have a recording, one of the first recordings ever done of Native songs. It was songs by The Seminole tribe.
Well, I am truly sorry about how “we” treat our Natives it’s the same here where I live, with the Sami people.
I believe that people has been betrayed by greed in one way or another. You could argue that politics, religions.... are in the hands of satan, but that’s not true. The only reason to blame some other than our self is to get away with it. “We” are responsible for what the world looks like, it’s us how are using the beautiful universal power of creation and love the wrong way.
It’s time to wake up to the truth.
Wake up to the light the energy inside of ourself, the vessel that will take us in to eternity and to the always “be” “now” and “I am”.

You can scan it and trace the salmon from it hatched to it was slaughtered and packed, it will tell you everything from what it ate to what kind of vaccination or medicine it recieved during it’s lifetime.
It’s the same with beef. Some of it is good quality and trackable, and some of it should not be eaten.

      Yeah but their system
is way different...highly socialized like most of Scandinavia. Residents are apportioned a certain amt from the oil industry like in Alaska. Anyone wishing to better themselves can get schooling at any stage to better themselves or improve technology within their field. It's pretty neat ...but it's socialism. Everything comes from the gov't. So although it's a more relaxed system...the freedoms are less it socialization. Not sure if That's

In ans. to your query abt the availability to get any good quality...safe foods anymore.
My response would be...and they actually want to build "high rise" farms in the future.
Those of us who struggle w. our wgt have long. thought we've had a lot of "help" along the way. Just saw a pc on TV abt the additives the big co's. like Kraft and Nabisco to name just 2 have gone to lengths to add to their food...(mostly the kinds of food you can live without btw). It seems since
big tobacco couldn't get their slimy mitts on $ from tobacco products and branched out to the food industry ...this has been going on...(I'm approaching my 80's). In Mass., menthol tobacco products were outlawed bc they were racially motivated.
I've lived in an area that used to supply ocean fresh fish to much of the N.Y. mkt. We got the left-overs or bought fish shipped from up north. Funny, how the world works!
I used to see fewer trip-boats out of New Bedford...now...all of a sudden there are lots more boat ...(draggers, mostly).
      The day boats have increased
in areas closer to The Cape.
I thought we were out of fish here. Perhaps, I'm reading the signs wrong (I'm just looking. at boats anchored up in "fishing harbors"). Actually lots more reasons that could be...but you'd have to know the industry better to look deeper.
So, perhaps there's always a back story to what we're hearing. One wk they declare a certain food product healthy...next wk it's something else! We've all long wondered abt the politics of
      the food industry.
I tend to notice things others don't see. My grandparents
had a sm. farm in NH. Farming
had always been a way of life in our family. Many 2nd to 4th gen. from that particular branch have continued in the dairy/beef/show cattle industry. When I read abt my cousin's efforts to wag the big
      political dog backing the dairy
industry ...I was amazed, to stay in business all the hoops a farmer has to jump thru.
The wife runs a gourmet quality bed 'n breakfast, farm stay-cation business. Her husband runs a "Cabot" farm.
One of the brothers was a Prof. (now ret'd.)... had his doctorate in dairy cow nutrition. Pics of the prize-winning cows from "the farm" amazed me! They bear no resemblance to my grandads 28 cow dairy barn.
Grand-dad's son owned a 600 acre spred when he sold out and ret'd. One of his 4 boys has 200 milking head...others are out pasturing or abt to birth/freshen. Birthing takes place on cam...if help is called for they're there in nanno seconds. Calves are carefully tended. Where my grand-dad didn't mess w. the bulls...they were gone the next day! One of the cousins has a
sm. beef operation. It's a business. Fishing, dairy, beef,
      cheese.
Just a peak behind the scenes on the production side of things. My cousins, along w. their sons and grandson's have a far different life...full of politics, boards. and agencies.
There are phone calls, board meetings, travel to the capital, hearings and inspections. There are county fairs to attend and 4H and FFA youngsters to groom into farming as a way of life.
If neglect is your operating procedure you'll not win. These are different times!
Many communities in blue state Mass have had to obtain a "certain designation" as "Right to Farm Communities".
      Sounds strange to me.
      My cousins live in Vt.
Where I live Oyster farms rule!
It's quiet here but the tourists raise a ruckus now and then!
      Everything is so different now.
One of my son's has the most lucrative trades co. in the county. He's farming too!
His farm is the local Tech...an honors school. He's a grad ...probably one of the best. He's sharp, well-read, stats-oriented. He travels to gain working knowledge, serves on a town board, an advisory board at Tech and
runs a corp. worth many millions...one of 3. A young guy in his early 40's. He farms
the plumbing shop and eagerly awaits each June and the birthing of new plumbers and HVAC's.
      Life is different today!
Tech has become one of the top ten secondary schools in Mass. instead of being a warehouse for boys who couldn't make it anywhere else.
This is technology...a new age in work, and food production.
They were just given a farm ...so food production will
reign once more in our county.
      Already we have veggie farms
that supply the farmers mkts in ea. sm. town.
This is an age of change, integration and sustainability.
More folks w. animals are getting into Perrmaculture.
Stay educated. ... there is a fish farm in Scotland that produces excellent fresh salmon and sells at a high end market in out town. The taste
      and texture are top drawer.
Perhaps there's a "doctor" ?(A fish nutrition Phd) in the house!
Sorry so long but the subject deserves a wider look!
Unfortunately, most don't have the time or energy to pursue
      the information!

I live in Belgium. The super markets here offer farm raised Scottish, Norwegian and rarely wild Alaskan salmon. The meat of farm raised salmon is neither firm or flavorful, rather slimy and gelatinous. Once you taste wild salmon, you notice the difference immediately. I toured a Norwegian fjord fishing farm several years ago, interesting tour. There is controversy in fish farming; the precarious products fed to fish, the denuding of the sea bottom and the poor quality of meat due to lower oxygen content of the water and fish unable to use their muscles to swim long distances.

Apart from the toxic chemicals that are used, salmon farming is causing massive problems for wild Atlantic salmon. Huge build ups of parasites such as sea lice and tonnes of fish excrement from the cages on the beds of sea lochs, rendering the areas virtually dead to sea life. The decline of Atlantic salmon populations on the west side of Scotland show an exact correlation with the start and expansion of salmon farming over the last four decades.

Our sheer arrogance and total disregard for God and His son Jesus Christ have brought all these miseries and miscalculations. Science with all its 'benefits' and ramifications cannot and will never replace God's message of salvation to humankind through His only begotten son Jesus Christ.

What I don't understand is this: In Norway we have extremely strict rules about contaminants in food. Even common additives in other countries are banned here. Even if there is the slightest chance that something can have adverse health effects, companies have a set time to faze it out of their production.
If it's true that these fish have incredibly high level of very toxic stuff in them, I find it hard to believe they would be sold in supermarkets here in Norway. And surely, other countries also have some rules? We eat a lot of farmed fish here, but also a lot of wild caught, and the quality is usually high in my opinion.
Edit: Edit to say that what is shown in this video is obviously horrific. But having said that; is this proof that all farms are like this? Maybe most farms are better run than this, with more oversight? Chicken farms are somewhat horrible as well. Cramped quarters and force fed chickens, but if you ignore the animal wellfare (you shouldn't), they still taste great and they aren't full of pollutants. More and more though, chicken farms are transitioning to huge open areas for chicken to run free. I would hope fish farms are also transitioning more and more to healthier way to farm.

Yeah, this video is very misleading. Showing outdated practices and giving the impression that it's poison. In reality, food pellets largely consists of soy and not fish from the baltic as the video said. More often than not, farmed salmon contains less heavy metals than wild salmon, and it's perfectly safe to serve at the store :)

Glad I found this again, this doc should be shown in schools. What is going on? I try and buy only Scottish Salmon and I like to see the whole fish and the flesh should be firm. I understand Sea Bass, they are slow growing and we even have size limits and seasons which are respected in the UK (I'm a fisherman) I was astounded, won't say the name of the super market, but the wife bought some prawns ... in very small writing ... they came from Vietnam! The baby cobs came from India and the mangetouts from Gambia! In very large writing it said "thoroughly wash before boiling"? Presumably to clean handling contamination. If you have ever been to these countries, they are still developing and toilet tissue is not a big seller.
I live in the garden of England ... on an an Island! There is corn in the field at the back of my garden. What on earth is going on with our food! Use local butchers, use local fish mongers, talk to them, ask them where it came from and hold them to what they say. The Herring are back, a lovely fish, the tuna are back as well. Mackerel .. you can fillet and pin it ... totally boneless, lovely smoked.
Rainbow Trout are stocked for recreation and farming in the UK and I think they are mostly triploid so sterile. They do escape in floods but cannot breed.

That creates huge market for Panga, Tilapia and Pollack. All have poor or questionable nutritional value. Salmon is well known for PCB containmenation and expensive. All could be poisoned or medicated so you can increase yield and governments are paid off so no one knows. Only some universities even study the food chain. The average consumer is totally ignorant. Our sheer arrogance and total disregard for God and His son Jesus Christ have brought all these miseries and miscalculations. Science with all its 'benefits' and ramifications cannot and will never replace God's message of salvation to humankind through His only begotten son Jesus Christ.
Therefore my friend if you desire to have eternal life after your short stay on earth then you must settle the sin factor through believing the atonement that Jesus Christ made on the cross of Calvary. All humankind is born as sinners and no sinner will inherit God's kingdom.

Everyone knows the saying that power tends to corrupt. What should be talked about more is the psychological observation that the already corrupt are the ones most drawn to power and extreme wealth to begin with. So power is a double edged sword.
I´ve come to the conclusion that psychopathy/ASPD is probably higher among the governmental and financial so called elite than in the general population. The more clever and self controlled psychopaths love power, control, and influence over others, and these types of positions are very attractive to them, plus with the side benefit and perk of extreme wealth.
These types believe in the unfettered life for themselves (but not necessarily others). They are selfishness and ego personified. They don´t care about others and don´t care about consequences or long terms, except as it applies directly to themselves and those that are connected to them. Note I don´t say those that they love, as the huge majority have no idea what real love is about. At best, they experience attraction, interest, and maybe occasionally something akin to fondness, but in an ego oriented way. Such as, my son recently did really well in something and that reflects good on me, because naturally it´s my genes and upbringing that caused that.
I would almost feel bad for psychopathic types except that they are causing so much harm to everyone else and to the planet. Theirs is a very empty and joyless existence. They are constantly bored, unfulfilled, and dissatisfied. No matter how much they get or accumulate, it´s never enough to fill that empty black hole where their Soul and connection to a higher power could and should be.

Ethoxyquin is a quinoline-based antioxidant used as a food preservative in certain countries and originally to control scald on pears after harvest. It is used as a preservative in some pet foods to slow the development of rancidity of fats

It saddens me and I see salmon constantly on sale in the supermarkets here but at what price..it is diseased and very unhealthy. I have fished in many places in the world.. but also saw the disease you mentioned in many fjords and rivers. It's all about money..nothing else 😢

I mean, meat industry/supermarket meat isn't any better. Unless you get your meat from very specific sources like smaller eco-friendly farms/family businesses, local hunters or similar, you don't eat any bit healthier. The myriads of meds, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, etc. will remain in the meat and no cooking will get fully rid of that.

Humankind has constantly ignored God and His message for too long. We act in the place of God who is the creator of nature and the universe.
Please repent from your sins and give your life to Jesus Christ so that you can have the righteousness of God which is ONLY in Jesus.

Re ethoxyquin - if this compound is only added to fishfood to prevent fats from going rancid it might be omitted if the pellets are kept cool. No ethoxyquin in butter (I hope) and butterfat is prevented from going rancid by storing the butter at cool temperatures. This would make fishpellet production and storage more elaborate and presumably also more costly. But if a toxic substance can be removed it might be worth it. I have stoped eating farmed fish years ago. Fortunately where I live fishmonger must indicate if the fish they are selling are wild catch or farmed. If wild catch they must indicate where and by what method the fish were caught.
