In 19th century and early 20th century, salmon was for the servants in the big houses. The servants complained that they had salmon far too often. Polluted rivers, trawling at sea, nets across the rivers - very few salmon of any species and extremely high prices for fishing the privately controlled stretches of river while staying in extremely expensive hotels and only allowed to keep one or two fish

That is exactly the same with fishing except it's just the opposite, sea animals lack lungs made for land, and land animals lack lungs made for sea. You see them less as they are in the sea doesn't make them disposable or deplorable and has a lesser capacity for living. Why do some people rush to rescue whales that beached themselves in public then proceeds to fish the smaller ones out of the sea?
@@dealarr shut up lee, we dont give a fuck, food is food
Yep.. cool story brah...so are you willing become my wife?
i like the part where he said i got the best fisher men in alaska after they didn't catch anything.
a fisherman who catches something every trip is just a liar : )
I like how he compliments others, while hooking the bait, thats a beautiful technique.
Great episode!
The fisherman sounds like hiccup from how to train a dragon
something about fishing on near ice cold waters in alaska just makes this so relaxing and peaceful
I 💜 Gordon Ramsey! He’s so Natural and Authentic 🥰
pan fried salmon with lemon...truly next level. I would have never thought to do such a thing.
It’s so hard to catch winter kings. I love what the captain said about the smell. after you do it enough you can literally smell the difference between king salmon and other species. Craig is a cool town.
What makes winter kings tougher than regular kings?
There rare in the winter, less rare in summer. There is definitely a reason they are called kings. Sockeye is my favorite, they are different Then other species, in that they are filter feeders. They still eat herring and what not but mainly filter feeders as in they have another Gill plate and eat plankton. Things you learn in marine biology in Alaska. That gentleman is probably a charter fisherman. my family and I do commercial gillnetting in the summers same fish just different fishing. It’s very interesting to look at how my state managers it’s salmon resources. I’m very proud of it all commercial fisherman that are permit owners pat 3 1/2% of their catch to rear salmon from eggs and then release them into the wild it’s actually sustainable and I’m proud of it
@@jackslagle2019 thanks for the reply! I learned bout sockeye being filter feeders from my charter CPT. In Kodiak and again innichtyology. I need to go to kodiak again!!!
@@jackslagle2019man after reading that id highly doubt you're a marine biologist... You have no idea what a winter king "black mouth" is
@@208flatheads3 never claim to be a biologist. I’m just a dumb fisherman what would the third generation Alaska boy know though? Come on cupcake, just shows what you know wild kings do have a very distinct, smell, summertime and winter time not like I’ve caught hundreds of them in my life or anything. I love our biologist up here they can attest to the strength of our fishing industry while I take 3 1/2% of my total income every year to pay for their salaries
”No room for the weak” love it
Fresh salmon caught yourself is always a treat! Every year I go dip netting and have salmon dinner on the shore. Delicious 😋
I just grilled a king salmon I caught in Lake Michigan. First time cooking a fish I caught. So satisfying. I’ve tried oven baked. Smoked. An air fryer. And grilled. Offered some to friends. New found respect for hunters and fishermen.
I love the men don't seem impressed by him at all before they catch a fish. But man, once he's cooked it, taught them about the fish, and they tasted his cooking, then all the sudden he has the commanding presence of the boat and became the leader. What a guy!
Fishing and cooking what you fish on the boat has got to be so much fun
I love this series
Fresh fish is just amazing. Any fish you can find in a freezer at your market, it tastes worlds better fresh from the water! My first experience with salmon was frozen and it was alright, but I didn't see why people enjoyed salmon so much. Then I had one that was caught that morning and it was just a simple pan-fry like this, but it was incredible. So tender and flavorful, the color of the meat was beautiful, it filled the whole kitchen up with this amazing smell. It's a fish you don't have to do pair with a whole lot of seasoning or sauce because it just tastes great!
"It's a fish you don't have to do pair with a whole lot of seasoning or sauce because it just tastes great!" good advice for any kind of great ingredient. Dont try to outwit Mother Nature. If you go the trouble of serving freshly caught fish, why cover it with sauce
Oh man, I was hoping to see Gordon catch one. It’s a heck of an experience if he hasn’t before.
Nothing like fresh anything for meat. Seeing Gordon in this element is priceless. Amazon car hop trays.
fishing with friends, the best vacation
I love his ability to just mesh with the people he talks with. Also, these fishermen get soooo excited when he was cooking that shit for em.

Ahh tastes so good love catching salmon! Pacific NW and Alaska are amazing!
I love how gordon talks about the cost of that fish back home for him.. but then think about multiply that by it being freshly caught, and cooked by gordon himself on a boat in alaska! what an experience that had to be.

Amazing! As a lower income senior, I try to buy a half pound every 2-4 weeks (whatever I can get at Safeway). It probably cannot compare to fresh caught, but just the taste, healthy oils and great dinner...the best!!!
love seeing him happy and not always so stressed
True masters know that the journey is never over.
Gordon is so awesome
dude surviving a bear mauling is absolutely no joke, that guy has one hell of a tale to tell
Never had fresh king salmon but did get to experience fresh sockeye salmon while in Alaska during my college years. No comparison: hands down the best fish you'll ever eat when fresh.
I've had all kinds of salmon (I lived in WA state for 20 years) and nothing beats Alaskan King Salmon. Melts in your mouth like butter.
Ngl I been watching Ramsey since I was a kid , bro is truly a remarkable person 💯
He looks so happy
With Alaska Fisheries violating fishing quotas every year, Salmon is getting more and more rare every coming season as the the Pacific Stock continues to plummet. It's not surprising that Ramsy caught none on this trip and the dude only caught *one* from before. Salmon dinner use to be around 13 to15 dollars not so long ago, now it's 22 to 29 dollars
Its only open for about 4 weeks and you are only allowed 1 per person per day, but put a couple dozen kings in my boat each year. And this is just Washington state, the Alaskans and Canadians have better fishing. I suspect Josh just isn't any good at it.
"Like a pro"
Gordon: thank you chef
"Wild King, you make my rod sing."
Definitely the king of cooking 😊
Insane recipe there, lemon, lightly seared salmon, those fishermen who eats these all the time could not possibly have tasted such unique cooking, u can see it on their face, pure magic.

Im in love with Josh after watching this 🤓
This was an awesome Gordon video!
I have never seen him so happy...😊
😳 I live south of where this was filmed and that price for Salmon in the UK blew me away... That's insane! I have Salmon available so often it's kinda meh in my opinion. I get much more excited if one of my kids catches a rock cod or a Halibut. Goes to show you take things for granted when they're your everyday food.
I havent had salmon over a year. Its so expensive here
Real expensive, add 30% and you have your USD total.
Halibut is sooo good
Catching halibut? Not only are those big fish but they are expensive. Your kids aren't catching those. You're mistaken 😂
The more I watch these the more I think we need to return to hunting and fishing for our food, the taste and the satisfaction when you catch it yourself is unbeatable.
You also value it way more. As opposed to just picking it up from the supermarket
I’m just getting at cooking my own food (well), can’t wait to grow and catch it it all too

I love Gordon I think he is the best chef on planet earth. He is a great person in general and I am always happy to watch him grow.
He's def not the best at everything, not even close...most well rounded though? Ya, by a fucking long shot. That doesn't mean anyone can cook a steak better than he can, I just mean like...you see him travel around and learn how to cook new things, like cooking that type of bread that you slap onto a vertical cylinder oven...then again maybe he could cook that same thing using different materials and not just in that particular way, I don't know...but sushi chefs for instance that only do sushi and have been doing it their entire lives, they are better at sushi than Gordon. But were talking best sushi chefs on earth and Gordon is one of them...but he's like a 9/10, the experts being 10/10 I'd say.
