About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
Considering how anxious and stressed he is when off the farm, Toby was incredibly well behaved for the grooming. He's such a well-mannered and sweet dog.
@hola But unlike Toby, you wouldn't be comfortable walking around with it exposed. ...And yet she was such a friendly and sweet lady!
I think he was worried about his birds more than himself
I hope you are well behaved around your husband, otherwise a little spanking will teach you manners. :D
@hola dogs arent like us
Can I ask.. what kind of breed is Toby?
Toby's attitude through all this was "I'm not gonna stop you, but I have no intention of cooperating"
Pyrenees attitude summed up
@@kristinawagers1004 They remind me of Samoyeds! Attitude, coat, and size are soo similar!
@@kristinawagers1004 man, is that ever the truth.
I wanted to see Toby enjoy a big juicy steak after all was said and done.
He definitely didn't want to cooperate when it came to the bum trimming 😉
I think he started calming down when he realized that this is not the way to the vet's place. When they get to the groomer's place, he starts thinking, "Is this a new vet?" During the wash, I am thinking Toby is thinking, "I like this new vet a lot more than the other one. I could get used to this."
That's I was thinking :) It's probably good for getting him to trust non farm type appointments, that we all have to deal with in life!
Came to think of it my dog hasn't ever been to the vet other than for chipping her ear and that was almost 10 years ago.
@@tntfreddan3138 No doggie vaccinations? You have to present the current Rabies certificate for both cats and dogs to a professional groomer in Southern California. And not allowed until a minimum of 48 hrs post vaccination.
You are irresponsible not getting your pet vaccinated or any veterinary treatment.
I like the fact that the groomer acknowledged that even though this is the Toby’s first groom she see’s his owner maintains him well because the owner actually does what he says he does.
I went to highschool with this groomer! Nykea is a stand-up person, and I'm glad to see her business flourishing!
She’s awesome!!
Toby looks so handsome. She did a great job. I agree twice a year, and steak dinner for being such a good doggie!😊💕

Toby: While I am here doing this, like fifty coyotes and strangers are eating our ducks. I'm not cool with this.
Pyranees from my experience never go after people(don't ask me how they distinguish between good/bad its magic). Coyotes/Dogs/bears/cougar... yes, Deer... sometimes, racoons... maybe, squirrels never. People never. They may as well be warning dogs, and not guard dogs in my experience. They bark but do nothing against a predator is my experience... with ONE exception, Coyotes.
Coyotes bobcats and other predators have a distinct smell walk and silhouette. When they ate compared with humans. They also see their own humans on a daily. basis.
@@w8stral My girl is pretty enamored with squirrels but I don't think she necessarily wants to get them. I think she just finds them fun and interesting. Now the 2 foot plastic lizard in our backyard that guys suspicious lol at least according to her.
I adore this teddy bear/ dog! What a sweetheart he is. I guarantee my one cat would be like grooming three ANGRY Toby's....with waterless grooming! Sweet cat...hates anything except cuddles. Good boy Toby! 🤩😻💖😘
...Wanna trade, Sir?😃

taking pets, especially working dogs, to groomers regularly is also a great way of getting a fresh set of eyes and hands on your animal. many groomers are the front line to noticing peculiarities in a pets physical state, especially as they get to know the animal over the recurring visits
Tobydog lokoked so FLUFFY and luxurious!!!
4:34 "We just met, lady!" Nykea's got a great sense of humor. Very professional, as well. Toby Dog sensed that. That made this grooming session a huge success.
I appreciate the acknowledgment of the benefits of grooming, even for an outdoor working dog. I’ve seen so many people just brush and hose off their dog and call it a day, but a groomer will express his glands, clean ears and teeth, check eyes and skin. A good groomer can help keep vet bills down and alert you to any issues in between vet visits. They’re an invaluable part of a dog’s healthcare, in my opinion.
Agreed
grooming is bad for dogs like these, their fur isn't meant to be combed. in my opinion.
The dog is double-coated, so his fur keeps him cool as well as warm. Some people make the mistake of shaving their double-coated dogs, but that actually makes them hotter.
@@SungazerDNB you are very misinformed if you think double coated dogs don’t need brushing… oh my lord the affects of matting on any dog is horrible pain…
@@SungazerDNB uhhhh….no. Matting issues for these double coats are horrible for dog and owner
"Come on Toby Dog!"
Toby Dog: "I would prefer not to."
Toby Dogs inner voice reminds me of Patrick Stewart
Totally Bartleby the Scrivener!
8:52 he looks very happy in the bath and I like the lady. She should start her own channel "The table in the stable" . Thumps up for the lady and dont forget even a farm dog needs a bath and a groomer to feel pampered now and then.
You even found her a perfect channel name! She has to start one now
When Toby is bathed and the fur kind of sticks to his body, you can see how lean and muscular he actually is.
Groomed Toby looks like a cloud flying low over the ground.
A very good and underrated comment ^^^
A heavy fog bank rolling in 😂
Toby seems more comfortable fighting off bears and poachers than leaving his farm unprotected to get a hair-cut. What a workaholic. Best boy!
Awww Toby Dog, it was almost like he KNEW he was being asked to leave the farm: "Noooo! My duties are here! Who's going to spot the coyotes if we're both gone?! If we leave, there will be NO BIRDS LEFT when we get back!" But he trusts you so much. He's such a good boy.
He was a very good boy. Tell the groomer to wear a mask. Groomer’s lung is a real thing. Inhaling all that fur and dander isn’t healthy. She did a great job! Very thorough and patient.
Wow, never though of that but it makes sense that it’s a thing.
Omg stop!
Alright, calm down
Crazy how triggered people get at the mention of a mask. The women at the nail salon have been doing it for the same reason! I fully agree.
@@ladyjade6446 omg no. she could get severe lung problems from all that fur and dander. its a mask for a few hours. she wont die.
I love how he went from dulled white to shiny af. Groomer seems like a cool person too which is so valuable if your dog is slightly anxious coming there.
I wonder for how long he was shiny af?
Yes!!

For a farm dog, I'm surprised the fur isn't brown! The pooch does an amazing job keeping itself clean.
Please always film when you take Toby to this lovely lady!! It’s so incredibly relaxing to watch! Toby has such a lovely white fur!
I've always loved grooming vids. It's oddly satisfying to watch. Especially when the dog is extra floofy and the fur goes flying around! LOL
Big big props to Nykea, she clearly loves animals and is dedicated to their care. If I lived in the area she would have my business.
Toby's gonna come out looking even more dapper and sophisticated
Nice pfp😩😩
I'm glad your groomer didn't do much shaving. Your dog is double-coated, so his fur keeps him cool as well as warm. Some people make the mistake of shaving their double-coated dogs, but that actually makes them hotter.
Agree 100% it seems to be the thing here in South Africa groomers clip all long haired dogs and cats!!!
good groomers know that. It's the bad ones (usually the ones giving "advise" on the internet making youtube videos and selling patreon sponsorships to shore up their failing businesses) who mess up dogs.
Can't shaving it also permenantly damage the coat?
@@Baseless_ yes
@@Baseless_ Nope. As long as the critter isn't injured by the grooming. Just have to bathe and groom for all of the clipped hair to fall out for the normal coat to come back in. Depending on the breed, it could take months to years to return to normal.
Toby looked like a puppy when he was wet. So freaking adorable.
"I'm a farm dog too," is 100% a MOOD and I love it.
Toby deserves it, he's been doing a fantastic job and his character speaks for himself. A Lovely Friend without a doubt.

Toby is so utterly laid back. That groomer is probably quietly thanking her lucky stars that he's not 'dramatic' as she'd probably have a concussion by now.
He looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Take him every 2-3 months and you'll have him feeling and looking smart. Groomers also find masses and muscle and skin issues. You found an awesome groomer caring, detail oriented, strong, devoted and patient. 🏆👍
Wow, the groomer seems super chill and professional. I would 100% take my doggo to her too.
And toby acted like such a good boy the whole time too. Great job ☺️
Haha, I love at the beginning how you can just tell Toby knows they need to leave and is like, "Yeah....Nah."
The groomer has such a sunny disposition about her and I really enjoyed watching her work, Toby just being the beautiful soul he always is!
I loved her and immediately looked to see if she had her own channel! She doesn’t, but I bet it’d do well if she did. I’d certainly watch her groom dogs every week!
YES the groomer was so awesome. She genuinely has a really strong connection, understanding, and RESPECT for the animal!!!
@@Janduin45 girl with dogs is SO entertaining when it shouldn't even be that way lol. But I did a really good job grooming my dog, but after watching her videos I'm much more thorough and do a lot differently, and my dog absolutely loves getting bathed and groomed now
Sunny? She looked deadly serious.
Nykea did an expert job with Toby-especially for his first time to a groomer. Toby is a very stylish boy and will thoroughly confuse all invaders to the farm! Good job 👍🏻 Dad!
Considering it’s Toby’s first time at a groomer, he behaved really well.
Such a cute ball of fur he is 😍😍
Good boi level 100 🤗😍
The BEST part of this video is his reminding people to TAKE CARE OF YOUR PETS!
He is awesomeness
Fr they are just machines to be put to work 24/7
Agreed, but good grief I would hope people do so regardless! Can't imagine NOT smothering my dogs with love, leadership, and a family for a pack.
True dat!
Because he takes care of Toby's grooming himself too.
Toby’s such a good boy. “Dad’s here and he says it’s ok. And she gives me pets. So I’ll do nice .”
She did a great job. That’s a big dog and a lot of work. Really good job.
Finding a groomer that understands LGD grooming specs is AMAZING. KEEP HER!!!
As someone who's only owned double coated dogs, I can confirm slightly trimming and shaving of certain areas will not harm the integrity of the coat. Especially the butt, it keeps the dog neat and clean without hurting their insulation. With pomeranians I like to shave/trim the down low areas as its pretty common for them to get extremely dirty and matted if you don't (depends on the dog)
Toby dog would probably appreciate this about 3 times a year. He loves his mud puddles but getting the extra fur off in Spring and Summer will feel good to him. Awesome choice of groomer.
Actually he’s got double layered fur which means it regulates his temp. both ways
@@caffienevaccine True, which is very common in dogs such as Toby and why it is recommended to brush him often. Buildup of shedding undercoat can cause skin irritation, but anyone with basic knowledge of dogs would know that. You have a great day.
@@Dobviews Morgan does take like ten minutes a day to brush out Toby dog, but as someone who was a dog groomer, there's some things that most pet owners just don't know how to/can't do. Especially when it comes to brush burn
@@mattthomas8178 Do you always need to mansplain everything or does my comment just bother you for some reason? Bless your heart...
@@Dobviews I was agreeing with you ?? But hey take everything personally I guess 🤷♂️. Bless your heart.
Previous Dog Groomer here to give an overview!
Groom: She knows what she's doing. Though I couldn't see what all she was doing in detail she did everything in proper procedure and order. That blow out is super important for a dog like Toby. He's got very thick fur, which means when he gets fully soaked he will take an eternity to dry and may get an actual mold issue from it. I highly recommend keeping his booty shaved up. This is called a sanitary. It helps keep him from getting any infections that would otherwise result from stuck urine or feces. An ear clean might be something you do once in a while as well, especially since he has floppy ears. The feet trim, although often seen as an aesthetic, clearing the hair from between his toes will prevent slipping and keep any unwanted objects from getting caught between his pads.
Toby: He was super well behaved for a first timer! You may see a little itching or licking in some areas because he's not used to having those areas messed with but it should subside in a day or two. I'm pleased to see that the matts he had on his rump came out relatively easily. If they were too bad to brush out then he might've ended up with a naked butt! (Sometimes this is done to prevent undue stress and pain upon the dog.) This is one of those friction areas that needs extra care with brushing and most people can't brush it through properly on their own due to lack of experience. Don't worry though, his matts seemed relatively minor in comparison to what I've seen before.
Overall it seems you found a good groomer and I would recommend you take him back every month or so. (No more than six months max.) He'll be more comfortable with her each time he sees her so he won't be quiet as nervous when he goes back. (In the event that a skunk gets him you're going to want that. It's not a fun job.)
Toby looks beautiful! Such a handsome boy!
I second the recommendation of regular ear cleaning (for all dogs especially floppy ear dogs) and consistent sani trims. Dogs with long, thick coats can get poop stuck back there more easily. No one likes infections!
looking at your profile pic and the word "groomer" together looks really weird, i really hope you don't do the other kind of grooming to any dog, ever.
@@fungustmaster Actually disgusting of you to make that assumption of anyone based on an animal as a profile picture, even in jest
I think they both should have worn masks during the blowout though, I worry about their lungs
@@fungustmaster Absolute bottom tier take, you should feel like an idiot for posting this.
he was clearly nervous but he was SO GOOD in spite of his fears! what a good baby.
Oh I love this woman! She is great. Right in there, not intimidated. Gentle, caring, yet firm no nonsense! Great job!!
Thanks for giving him a spa day. I'm sure after he got home alone and settled, he thought back on it and smiled because he feels content.
I love that she was explaining everything as she went along. That’s how you know she’s a good one.
Agreed! Points to area of concern and provides suggestion (so... do you recommend this?) YES
I think that groomer is a kind and gentle soul and Toby’s kind soul recognized that ... even though he was not a fan of the whole thing. ❤️❤️
I agree, it went well. And it helped with Morgan staying with him😁
I mean, wouldn't you if someone was taking some scissors around there?
@Heloise O'Byrne "Hey lady we just met."
oh gosh...i love seeing how dedicated Toby is to his flock. It's adorable. He's a best good boy
When I was a kid we had Maremmas as farm dogs and I vividly remember constantly brushing them and getting enough fur for 2 more dogs! This brought back some nice memories 😊
take him for a brief spin in the truck once a week, since it seems the only time he goes anywhere is to vet or other uncomfortable/fearful event.
My dogs used to be terrible with cars and public until I started taking them with me to grab a pack of smokes here and there
It can also help to leave a little early so when you get to the vet you can take them on a short walk first. So hopefully they connect the car ride with going for a walk in a new place instead of "evil vet touching my b*tt 😨"
@@jolienvsndijk if the butt is all that gets touched, they're pretty lucky. Needles in the neck and an undercarriage grope/examination is pretty par for the course for both of the dogs I've had.
That's actually great advice
Also assosiate the truck with positive things like food, play or something he finds nice and is comfortable with.
Oh boy Toby was pretty much a dreamdog for any groomer! If anyone hasn't seen her videos yet, go check out Girl With The Dogs. There is nothing quite like a Husky singing their anthem when getting bathed.
Omg I love her!
The only problem is with COVID, it may be hard to go across the border as she is in Canada and the drive might be torture for Toby. But I agree - everything that I have seen from Girl With the Dogs is top notch for grooming.
Yeah I thought this was one of her videos first.
The song of the husky’s people must be sung
Ive learned a lot from her and I groom my own husky (shes a quiet one, no anthems!). Bought a dog dryer, slicker brush, equigroomer, and groomer shampoo.
Toby is the goodest boy! Such a big gentle soul ✨ Also Nykea did an amazing job with the whole grooming from how she bathed him to how gentle she was with the big floof ❤️
him refusing to leave really shows his work ethic and commitment to his job lol
edit: the way he had to carry him into the bath had me cackling
edit:#2: I'd cry If my white dog laid down in the mud after being groomed but i also understand he's a farmdog and works primarily around mud lolol
Toby's like, 'nothin' good happens when we leave the farm.'
A friendly, knowledgeable groomer is extremely valuable and I’ve found them to be in short supply and under appreciated. Seeing a dog for 2-5 hours once every 6 weeks minimum, it can be tough to develop a bond as opposed to be being a source of stress for the dog if they’re nervous about groomer. Good groomers are so so very important.
The dog, the owner, the groomer, everything in this video is just wholesome and I love it
Toby is like "I dont understand whats happening but dad has never steered me wrong and im a good boy" Gaaah, i love Toby Dog. Such a sweet gentle spirit
props to the groomer, she was super friendly and did so well at grooming
What's all the angst in the comment section? Toby didn't jump into the pickup, but he took the trip just fine. A little panting is to be expected - even from a housepet. And he couldn't have been calmer while being groomed.
I agree. It went great and Morgan did a good job, staying with Toby
One word comes to mind - just one. TRUST. Beautiful interaction between this dog and owner. Love it.
The groomer is exceptional, and I love that the table is rubberized.
Toby looked like he was actually GLOWING when he got back to the farm.
I was shocked at how Toby let the groomer handle him. She put her face near his mouth and everything. Considering that he had never met her, Toby was very well behaved and tolerant wow.
He could sense that she meant him no harm, so he trusted her.
They are generally quite a people friendly breed. Plus he was in a new environment so he had nothing to guard.
Glad to see he's feeling better. They're both beautiful dogs.
You can totally tell how much love Toby dog gets at that farm. Definitely a member of the family 🙂
Toby was soo brave! He controls his anxiety really well.
I loved watching his emotional journey!
Toby is so good at his job! Poor guy didnt want to leave his flock unattended
He's the Guardian of the Quacken, and loves his job 😂😂
Once he has his own pack, maybe he'll feel differently.
Such a good natured loveable pup! I love how the groomer gave him kisses to help keep him calm. He's such a handsome boy. It's kind of like spa day for puppers, just without the cucumber slices, lol! Good job, Dad!!!
Toby enjoyed his spa day, and wow the groomer did an excellent job, very thorough with the bath, 👌🙏
You need to have more "FUN" excursions with Toby to offset all of the negative experiences he associates with going for a drive.
It's more a matter of leaving his territory and flock unattended that stress these dogs
100% agreed. When the new puppy comes, Morgan needs to take the puppy out regularly to have fun when riding in the car. Then add Toby, and Toby will start to feel less anxiety for doing it.
@@RoulicisThe well, think about it this way. Toby only really hangs out on the farm. He’s only gone out a handful of times, so everything outside the farm is unfamiliar and a little scary to him. People have these types of dogs as pets and they are fine going outside to different places because they are used to it.

This groomer lady is amazing at what she does. Its easy to see she cares about being excellent and professional at her job but also about dogs in general. She deserves great success and happiness in whatever she does.
He was prancing all around like he felt so much better. It has to feel good getting a good scrubbing and opening up all of his pores and getting all of that extra hair removed so his skin could breathe better and he looked great!

@@16poetisa yeah I mean before you even get him in the car. Generally most calming treats should be given at least a half an hour before the stressful event. Ideally, anyway.

What a good boy and a noble dog - he was so good I cannot believe he's never been groomed like this before. Good job! He's such a beautiful boy!
What a Good Boy. The only thing I Not do...in the winter, when he is walking on snow and ice everyday, don't trim out his feetsies hair....it protects his toes. Definitely think a couple of times in a summer to help with the heavy shedding hair he has. Your keeping him brushed out really impressed her though. Made her job easier.
Can I just say- Toby looks gorgeous after that grooming and you'd never know it was his first time with how good he was
you would never think it's his first time at the groomers, what a good boi he is!
That groomer deserves a medal. And Toby was a total gentleman. 5 stars for owner, Toby and the groomer.
Getting rid of the old undercoat once a year on a big shaggy dog is probably a very good idea, promotes healthy new growth, I believe. As for his teeth, I have found that a "Greenies" once a day and one MilkBone each day helps my dog keep a nice clean mouth. I have a 75 lb Lab - Heeler mix and - no - she will not let me brush her teeth. Now, if I could just find a way to trim her nails without a battle.
Frozen carrot after dinner also good for teeth
Give my 110lbs golden retriever a dentistix a day. She loves those and reminds me when I forget to give them to her. She resists me brushing her teeth as well. As for trimming her nails, I am so nervous of cutting to close to the quick I just let the vet do it. She tries to hide under the bench at the vets. Other than that, she loves baths. Especially the towel.
I think doing it twice a year, once in April, as it gets hot, and another in June, as summer comes, might be the best time for him. Besides that, he needs his fur.
I gave my dog Benadryl or CBD
i am surprised that wet toby actually looks formidable, many furry dogs look so thin when wet
You need to do this more often because he deserves it. You are a worker and you take care of you.
I know he's a farm dog and he's at his happiest with dirt between his toes and a rain-washed coat but it's just so SATISFYING to see him all fluffed up and brilliant white! 😆
WOW ... Toby handled the bath and pampering extremely well. I thought I saw him thinking, "This feels so good and embarrassing at the same time!"
