- What a tumultuous journey it has been for Henry Cavill and Lauren Hissrich. I Though it seems the combustion of The Witcher had a slow onset; controversies, fan blacklash, leaks, and behind-the-scenes drama brought the once highly-anticipated show to new lows. Join me as I chronicle the disappointing floundering of a beloved IP, drowned in it's own wasted potential. The Witcher Season Three. Eat my nuts, Liam Hemsworth.

What went right: Henry Cavil, Toss A Coin to Your Witcher
What went wrong: pretty much everything else.
Compared to Priscillas song in Witcher 3, the song "Toss a coin to your Witcher" feels like a third class work not worthy of a famous bard, known to enchant queens with his sweet voice.
Personally, I kinda dislike the song too.
But I was never a big fan of pop music, it seems.
@@DundG Yeah, Pricillas Song was incredible.
@@DaroriDerEinzige "The Wolven Storm" gives me chills every time
Dande-Jaskier was amazing, until they suddenly made a WOMANizer gay
You'd think that by now producers and studio heads would realize that you can't half ass a well loved nerd IP.
Especially when you had the perfect actor.
The Witcher is no longer about The Witcher. It's a girl boss promoting woke-fest hellscape. It's absolute garbage.
All you had to do was to follow the damn books, Lauren!
It could've all been so simple 😪
Was that a GTA San Andreas reference?

I am a book fan too. I liked Henry Cavill as the witcher. But after season two I stopped. It was simply stupid. Good for Henry Cavill that he went away.
I really liked the non linear timeline of season 1.... It made me excited to watch something smart and thought provoking for a change....
I am a huge fan of the books and the games.
During S3 i kept asking myself "who is this?". The alliances and motives of characters were all over the place. Redania was poorly introduced, Cahir goes from extreme to extreme. Rience is wasted and thrown aside.
Its a mess.
I'm working at a huge public university library and just ordered book 1 of The Witcher today for us to have here😅 It's awesome that us employees can also order books and thus decide what is being purchased with public tax payer money😅 But I'd rather our students read THIS than all the other modern fantasy crap that's constantly in the top seller lists (like that Hades love story written seemingly by a wattpad fanfiction writer).
Strange... if I was to hire writers, I'd demand them to retell me the whole book-seria, then describe me their favourite scene in every book, then their favourite game-quests, what they would have done better and give me an example, and then I'd pick people for the episodes their favourite content was in. And if somebody says, phew, the book wasn't my thing, I hate thaose characters - they're the wrong people to do the show. Fantasy needs always to be done by fans for fans, then it's at its best, and not fake fans.
Wanting people to stay after Cavill was never going to happen. The show already deviated from the books making the story and characters not make sense in season 2. Him leaving wasn't the core problem. He was just the straw.
i nvr read the books but played the games A LOT. An playing the games is why i wanted to see the netflix series. Sadly im losing interest watching the series specially since henry isn't in them anymore. Im "curious" to see how the rest turns out? But im VERY upset as to how they have done the series. It makes me wish Henry Carvill directed the series and played Geralt. I believe it would have turned out 100% better then it is now. So if they see these comments. Just maybe they will have another person making an even BETTER one then this. At least they know what NOT to do in it.
They should have stuck to the storyline instead of butchering it. It just goes to show that Netflix doesn’t care about what the readers and audiences want. The main character, Cavill who played the Witcher he was a great influence on the series and now the show’s writers are the reason for the fall of the series. Thanks to the writers for the crap that they did and for losing Henry to their butchering of the series and the fall of the Witcher series on Netflix.
I loved the first season, because I'm a fan of general fantasy. Season 2 was not very good but I was still looking forward to the next seasons. Season 3 was bad, didn't make sense, everything about it was unbelievable in a bad way. That's when I decided to read the books and boy, oh boy, I still can't express how grateful I am for being able to read! But I got angry and angrier with each sentence at how bad the series are. I could see how incompetent and pure ignorant the screenwriters are to transform such gold to absolute shit. Although season 3 is bad, even though it is most faithful to the books. You can't make a character a selfish bitch, who tries to sacrifice a child to regain her powers, and make her a loving mother in half a season by just saying so! And for what? I still don't understand why they had to picture Yennefer like this. She could be what she is in the books; a strong motherly character. But the screenwriters are obviously confused about what they consider as a "good woman"! Shit, I can keep nagging until tomorrow!
Lol i just realized the guy who's going to play Geralt is LIAM Hemsworth not Chris...who the hell is Liam really???
Watch the movie The Dressmaker with Kate Winslet. Its a quirky Australian movie and Liam is in it. He may surprise you!
They actively chose to fck it up. I can see why Henry left
Why are you insulting dumpster fires? They have many more virtues and uses that Blood Origin.
Just FYI, "adaptation" is not pronounced "adaption". "Adaption" doesn't mean the same thing, and does not apply in this context.
Netflix can die.
They literally lost the plot.
For everything.
If you dont like the source material of something WHY adapt it? And dont even get me started on casting, geralt and ciri were the only good choices
S1 have more problems then world building. Character assassination started there, fail to build relationship between Geralt and Ciri also, bad casting, simplification of character relations, politics. Also decision not to make Geralt main character, this is also s1.
Someone needs to do a "Ciri!" "Rey!" mash up video.
This is Game of Thrones all over again... Except, the writers have content to go of... Dumb and dumber could've done a better job...
When Dumb & Dumber had the books to follow and dialogue to copy, they did an amazing job. They adapted well, they just couldn't create at all.
Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne?
I enjoyed season 1. After that, I did not much care for the show.
After reading the books and playing the GOAT game. I was open to any interpretation. But it fell flat because it seemed like some current social agenda was playing out within the writing when this story was taking place in the dark ages Poland.
Eh, It wasn't taking place in the dark ages Poland, but in fictional world that was based on many different european elements.
this showrunners think they now better ....... when u go from the source your just making your own fan fiction .. i hope she lauren get fired ...as why should someone keep there job with a flop.
I fell asleep halfway through the last episode of season 3, it was an okay season but nothing to write home about, it was poorly paced and storylines were confused lacking any true conclusions which usually happens at the end of a season, it cried with desperation of please don't stop watching after Cavill's gone, we'll do better next time, eh no do better now before I renew my subscription to watch your lack luster show
:)
(:
All the writers had to do was stick to the books and the show would have been lauded for years. I didn't mind the weaving of storylines in season 1, but I hated the diversions from the book. Season 2 had was filled with these changes - so many that I couldn't bring myself to watch season 3. Hissrich and the writers are to blame for ruining something that could have been awesome.
These are talented writers who never wrote ever anything worth a dime they clearly can weave a better story
We wanted "The Witcher" and we got "Lauren Hissrich presents - The Witcher, a Sorceress and the Girl of Destiny", adding 2 protagonists was a disaster from the start. It's clear the writers had no respect or reverence for the source material and thought their additions were better than the original and necessary for the story. You hear it in their interviews "the books are more of a guidebook than a bible" like the lore was written on a napkin. (Oddly enough, Blood Origins was actually written on a napkin and they adapted it faithfully.) I'm actually glad the fans have turned against this show, until we make these actions unprofitable they'll continue.
In book series there are two protagonists: Geralt and Ciri. And some point series focuses little bit more on her than on Geralt.
imagine failing to present a show that's already written and all you had to focus on was the acting, but nooo they just had to go out their way and fuck it up
This is like the last airbender all over again but with the witcher
WHY IT FAILED ?
EASY ANSWER = BECAUSE NO RESPECT FOR REAL STORY, MOCKING REAL FANS, HENRY IS THE GOAT AND THIS IS A DEAD SHOW. HELL YEAH.
HELL YEAH
Season 1 was okay - season 2 tried to follow up - season 3 sucked - there will be no season 4 for me. (Henry Cavill was awesome, though)
Henry is one of us and we love him for it.
It failed because Netflix show runners didn’t like or respect the books.
Netflix showed with The Witcher that it definitely does not respect writers and their works. Despite being a huge fan of the Chronicles of Narnia as well, I can already anticipate how rubbish this will be.
If the Dundelion in The Witcher was chosen to be the gay one in history, in Narnia, it will be certainly left to the lion, Aslam.
Just wait for the narnia show. I remember people saying that hotd will be trash and in the end the show was very good
I just do not understand the ego of these show runners/writers, as they fire the people who actually know about the IP. The same thing with Rings of Power. It's clear that they just wanna make name for themselves through a title.
The casting choices they made for Triss and Yennifer was 😬😬😬
My wild guess? People who never played the video games, that came out circa 2007, but saw "The Last Witch Hunter" in 2015, probably thought the Netflix series was a rip-off of the latter rather than a spin-off of the former. As in, the main protagonist was merely Kaulder with hair!
With it being the last season and him being in it for less than 5 hours over all, I don’t have the will to brother watching it. I lost the heart to watch with Henry leaving and his lack of screen time
Netflix need to hire writers not activists!
I didn’t think much of the acting abilities of some main characters, which I won’t name.
The Switcher: Intersectional Fem Lords
You make really good videos. I hope you get more subs fast.
What’s amazing is Netflix also did Castlevania while I have no idea if it’s close to the source material. But that’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last decade.
Respect the source material, give us good characters and the fans will love it. (And if you have a walking encyclopedia on the lore of a series. Listen to him!)
it's not "Netflix" who did it, it's people. Different teams altogether.
It isn't close to the material. But it doesn't matter since it was good. Most castlevania games I played had barely a story worth mentioning, but the gameplay was always good.
Also happy how they gave Isaac so much depth and it didn't matter that they changed him from a red head, goth, leather wearing white guy to a black man. His new story had so much depth that it didn't matter at all.
@@DundG I know they did a remix of Bloody Tears, and definitely respected all of the characters in the show a lot more then the Witcher's characters were respected.
I loved the main trio, especially how they did Sypha, a bad ass mage who was clever, and never seemed to be any weaker then her allies. She just had a different skill set.
@@crazyscotsman9327 Well yes, comptetent, responsible writers manage to give characters believable show counterparts without ruining their charakter.
Sypha was bloody op with her magic, definetly the damage dealer with her decimating entire hordes of monsters.
@@DundG That's what I am saying. And you can have a strong assertive powerful female character without making her a bitch. (every other series take note of Sypha. She is an amazing character!)
It's a shame identity politics destroyed yet another netflix disaster piece 😂
Identity politics? I would say the show got butchered by bad writing
@@karimabidi8312110% identify politics. This show was doomed to fail the moment the writers and casting directors were hired. It’s supposed to be a fantasy world based on Slavic folklore but it became a mess that sidelines the main character and prioritizes diversity and feminism as opposed to creating the show everyone actually wanted to watch. The writers, casting directors, and show runner ruined it with their identity politics and yes atrocious writing. I hope season 4 never drops and one day someone makes a proper adaptation of the Witcher books
@@ronnielevesque7704
The books are also about racism and stuff like that. I couldn't appreciate the show because of the mixed look (sometimes high budget sometimes like a cosplay event) and because of the dumb story. Imagine the same story and the same look with only white actors, it would be still trash. And now imagine more diversity but the same story of the books, it would be better
Its quite obvious most of the characters don't match their book/game viewed descriptions that they casted. The writing was a joke. Hopefully we'll see a new series/film elsewhere, because this franchise has so much potential.
@@ronnielevesque7704 My god, people look for identity politics everywhere now. Just because there are black people and powerful women in the show doesn't mean that the it prioritized diversity and feminism. Stop watching right-wing media.
I'd never read the books, nor played the games though I knew of them. I found the concept of a mutant monster hunter mercenary with potions and spells intriguing, and Henry Cavil makes the character likeable. I pretty much wanted more Geralt and less of the other stuff. This last season was pretty meh except for one or two episodes.
It's so simple, Henry was the only reason shy anyone actually watched the witcher and beacuse that woman decided to side bench the main character and made it about woman it sucked for the original fans
They had no respect for the source material and focused too heavily on the politics and side character drama rather then the monster hunting
I have a terrible headache about that add-on “head-monster”.. they just pulled that one from their asses
Jaskier joining the rainbow gang was the nail to the coffin.
Season 4 let black feminists and lgbt watch...
3rd season was a disaster storytelling and pacing
Living Jar Cletus😂
Constructive criticism. Your content and take is great but the video quality is holding you back. The music in spots was too loud and distracting as it doesn't fit the mood of what you are saying.
zoltan explains to ciri the order how the continent got populated... later king of the alder elves explains to ciri why that part of elves left for other world and after that the gates to travel between worlds closed.. in storm season we get to know that many monsters in the world were created by the mages and witcher were created by the mages to hunt down those creatures.. mostly those created by mages, others are curses done by even ordinary people, like the striga.. vampires, leshen and many others are sure stranded from other worlds (aka dimensions)... vampires are clearly explained by regis somewhere aroud the fish soup.. all world building is done as the reader reads the books.. my two young boys had the books
It is a bad as rings of power
Um, maybe bcuz it sucked???
Solid detective work, Batman.
Thx, Commissioner @@livingjarcletus I watched one and a half episodes in six viewings. I could only get thru about 15mis or so at a time...
Honestly I watched it and it's not that bad
It hasn't, it's still listed in their top 4 video watched each week since season 3 launched. You may not like it but the GP, those not *obsessed with rumors and regurgitating* those rumored facts to make a buck *are still watching* .
They *followed books two and three* this season but I still read ignorant comments talking about *not following* the lore when they did!!
That can't be why he left when the reason many have given *isn't actually factual* . Cavill left because of not following source material when they followed it his last season, common sense? People took a comment made by a terminated employee years before his departure and a comment Henry made before filming to get 5 out of 2+2 and ran with it. One creator after another copy and pasting the same unproven rumors.
Are we forgetting he was told Superman was his again, filmed his cameo, then left the show. No it couldn't have been that, had to be this other thing we've came up with....mmmk Oh and Warhammer wasn't even conceptualized until after quitting and being told no to Superman by the DC new lead. His friggin finance works for the Warhammer company!!!
Season 2 didn't follow any source material, none! The whole Yennefer sacrificing Ciri was made up, and because of that, although season 3 was more loyal to the source, it didn't make sense. They took a terrible detour and they couldn't fix it later on.
@@shahlayadollahi9574 Your first complaint is from *season two not three* and I *clearly* wrote about season 3 not of the previous. Other than that you go on to admit season 3 did follow the books. Loosely or not it follows the main story. Most shows never have a exact 1 for 1 adaptation of source material.
Time of Contempt and Baptism of Fire!- *Of course* it's not a exact 1 for 1 but the *general story* lines were the same. What happens with Ciri is the same except she used all her magic ability (energy) supposedly in the desert, she comes across the Unicorn, her travel through the portal, the destruction of the tower, the mage conclave with the same aftermath from the next day, Vilgafortzs fight with Geralt then chases Ciri the same way then the tower explodes disfiguring him the same way. Etc etc etc etc.Yes they did change a few things like Rience being beheaded by Geralt but the general storyline was the same.
It is beating a dead horse at this point IMO. Get over it and move on or don't watch. It's really that simple.
The problem with season 3 originates from season 2. After Yennefer trying to sacrifice Ciri for her own benefit, the whole act of motherhood seemed forced and unbelievable. It was after season 3 that I decided to read the books. And yeah, as I said, it was more loyal to the books, but didn't make sense after the second season. When they changed season 2 that much, they shouldn't have just come back to the storyline like nothing had happened. They ruined their own story too.
They absolutely did not follow the books or the lore or the characters. The motivations and relationships are completely nonsense and made up. What are you even talking about?
Henry was great as Geralt…a little one-note , but good. Henry the person was a problem to the production from the start. He didn’t stay in his lane as an actor, was horribly inappropriate with the women who actually ran the the show, and had many internal complaints that were becoming harder to keep quiet . Also, he did not leave, he was let go. Sad really.
😢
He signed on with the understanding he would have input and they would honour the source material. Then they did the opposite and yet could not see why he was upset??? Him being honest about how he felt and complaining to the showrunner and her minions about their deviations from the core story line (while also ignoring what the fans wanted), is not inappropriate, but is in fact called being ethical.
