OK...I did not see nor hear anything about ''The Awful Truth''.....WHAT 'Awful Truth'? I, dearly, loved James Garner in EVERYTHING he was in, but he pulled on my heart strings with '' Maverick''. Even though I was a child, back then....in fact, a tot/baby, I DEARLY LOVED HIM!!!! I use to tell my parents I was going to marry him, someday. I am 67, and even, to this day, he makes my heart sing!
Exactly, it was "great good truth" how he kept his marriage and family together despite the challenges. No mentioned here, and by, his own admission, he smoked marijuana from a early age until late in life.
1. In the mid-nineties, I knew James Garner’s cousin & wife. 2. Frank & Karen Bumgarner. 3. Frank & James’ fathers were brothers. 4. Wonderful people who spoke highly of James. 5. They showed me photos with them & James on the set of “Murphy’s Romance” with Sally Fields.
I think James Garner had integrity, intelligence, looks, compassion, honesty. I think what you saw on the screen is also what was inside that man. From everything I read about him seems to back up my beliefs. My favorite actor, and person as a good one. Loved Rockford Files with Noah Berry and the movie Murphy’s Romance with Sally Fields.
The titles often say 'tragic life and end' of such and such an actor, and it is nothing but their life story, which has the same struggles we all go through. I saw one which said the death of Rod Stewart, and I had to Google it to check and see if he was still alive!
I've always loved James Garner in every role he played. He always reminded me of my own Dad. It turns out that he was just like me Dad. My Dad was in the Navy and in the Korean War and got blown off a ship only him and one other man survived. The rest of the crew perished. But my Dad was always a dedicated family man to My Mom and my brother and me. He was a handsome guy just like James Garner. He passed away when he was 68. The same age I am today. He had Parkinson's Disease and he passed away from a massive heart attack. But I have to say that every time I saw James Garner when he was still acting and believe me I watched everything he was ever in including The Gift with Brian Dennehey and Abigail Breslin and that young man Drew Fuller. I felt the comforting words of my own Father through James Garner. One of the best actors that ever lived. We just don't have men like that anymore. 😘🙏❤️💙😇😇
I had the good fortune of meeting James Garner on the set of Maverick. I was 15 years old. He was charming and so good looking. I remember it like it was yesterday. I like both roles, but of course, Maverick had more personal meaning to me. However, I watched Rockford too. Carol from California
The story I heard him tell was that he basically fell into acting through an agent at a strip mall office, with no formal acting training, a vet actor I liked said that he was such a natural that the formal wasn't necessary. I've seen and like Maverick, my favorite is the Rockford files. I watched with my stepdad who loved Noaah Berry who that he was great at playing the dumb dad who was actually way smarter than he let on. I miss those kind of shows.
While attending UCLA, I was hitch hiking back to school one afternoon. I was picked up by Mr. Garner. About a 5-minute ride down Sunset Blvd. I mostly knew him from The Great Escape (a wonderful motion picture) and other films. We engaged in conversation. What a pleasant and friendly Man! He clearly loved acting. What a great experience for an 18-year-old guy (now 67). You touched many lives Mr. Garner.....Including mine.
He was from my city and he is well-respected here. There is a large statue of him next to the train station to honor his memory. We knew about his childhood & other things and it didn’t lessen our respect for him.
@@FactsVerse loved him with Doris Day in the two rom coms he did w her - also loved him in the Rockford files, what a wonderful family man he was and his integrity in his work life is definitely a rarity in any field these days ❤
I did love Maverick and rockford files... but really loved him as Zack, in Tank, and as Shep Walker in the "...yaya sisters" where he stayed thru thick and thin with his wife portrayed by Helen Brsyton (which would have had a normal man running into the night).. he was a wholesome family man in those movies..TFS ❤❤❤❤
Reports back then had him abusing Lois, his wife. He had a temper. She left him 3 times. Went back till he passed. Read his book. His childhood affected him.
Warner Bros. 'ruled' over their acting stable of players, with an 'iron hand', paying their top stars as little as $500. a week! Garner did balk at this & I believe, may have been suspended, once! I met James Garner in 1963 & also spoke to Clint Walker, ( on a radio show) 2007, about Jack Warner's treatment of his 'fantastic' array of young & talented players!
I agree. There's no need to make Garner sound like he was a bad person to get people to watch your video. That's the furthest thing from the truth. He was a very caring and generous man.
He was fantastic in Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. He also made 2 movies with Doris Day, Move Over Darling and The Thrill of It All, which are just as good as the ones she made with Rock. And who could forget The Great Escape?
My husband and I were friends in college with Noah Berry's nephew, Bob....a tall red-headed fun guy. Once when the alarm clock went off for an early class, Bob killed it...smashed it to bits and went back to sleep.
Will probably never be equalled. I hope he and Stuart Margolin have gotten to see each other again. Title and thumbnail picture are misleading as usual.
Not a fan of click bate. I do like James Garner, and the headline on this is merely a way to get people to click to hear something negative! knock it off. Voting Down on this one.
My brother was friends with one of his mistresses back in the 70’s I met her once, while he was a married man. I was married to an actor so I know how many of the men cheated even holding a rep for being a great family man! I heard all the stories from my husband about the huge number of men he knew had mistresses or just constantly bedding random women, if you don’t believe it that means your not in a show biz family!
THE AWFUL TRUTH is you didn’t do your homework. James Garner adopted Kim…she was not his step-daughter, but his (adopted) daughter. ..You show pictures of Kim, implying it’s Gigi. Some corrections are needed.

Rockford of course. Could have used ten more seasons. Hell never be replaced
he made more money off the syndication
Apparently he had to quit making the series because of all the injuries he got from doing his own stunts.
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
@montyforster3370 Who knows? Maybe less time since would have robbed us of some of the cool reminisces we remember of them.... Who knows?

I soo LOVED him in Murphys Romance! My all time favorite movie. He was such a talented actor. ❤
One of the FEW that were dedicated to family and didn’t have a bunch of crap said about him. True gentleman.
One of a kind in Hollywood.. The industry could use and have more of this kind of actor.....
