Alexis Calle It is a Wagner heat gun. You can get it at home depot in the states but I imagine you can find some variation of it at any home improvement store. It blows a low volume of air at high heat. You can also use a hair dryer on high heat/low airflow settings. Thanks for watching all the way in Austrailia. I visited Brisbane and Cairnes when I was young and loved it!

phdstudios1 Hey there! You can use any kind of paint or colorant. Acrylic works just fine, is commonly used and you only need a small amount, about 5-10% for each cup of resin. You can use spray paint and even gilding solution! Micas of course work great as do other colored powders and liquids. You can also throw in solid items like paper, toys, jewels or silver/gold etc leaf. The options are literally endless! Just be careful not to put too much paint or other liquid in your mix (remember 10%) because it could cause your resin to not fully cure. Last but not least, keep an eye out for David's videos because as we can see, he is phenominal! Best wishes and happy painting!

GORGEOUS! Could you explain a little about the alcohol and mica powder. Do you think pearl ex would work? Definitely want to try - inspirational.
Hi Alexis. Thanks for watching. I mix mica pigments into the alcohol and spray it on the piece. It causes chemical separation and splays out the pigments in a cool way. I am not familiar with Pearl EX but the mica pigments are also known as "pearls" so I'm pretty sure it is the same thing. Have fun!
Alexis Bonavitacola Yes! I use pearl ex quite a bit. They work perfectly but remember that Stonecoat sells micas specifically formulated for their resin and it does a wonderful job. You might want to give them a try too. Happy Painting!

Beautiful piece. Do you ever have little bubbles left after it has set? And if so, does it matter to the buyer?
Yes most of the resin artists seem to use, if using paint to color their resin, acrylic. Is there a difference in the way the resin reacts with oil that is different with acrylic paint in the resin mixture?
Claudette McDermott I dont use acrylic much. It is a water based product which doesnt always jive with a solvent based resin. I know a lot of others do though and seem to get good results. I like the oils because they dont add moisture to the mix that has to escape (making bubbles). Thanks for watching!

I use rustoleum black gloss enamel to tint the resin in this piece. Im not sure if there was a torch in this one but I do use a torch to pop the air bubles.
beautiful work! some of the best I have seen. Please may I ask what wattage your heat gun is? trying to purchase one today and have no idea, there seems to be little info out there on equipment are you have appeared to nailed the technique many thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching Amy. I'm not sure what the wattage is but it is a wagner from home depot. They have several sized and this one was the smallest one. It was priced at around $22. Hope that helps!

carol johnson homeatly I dont remember. I believ it eas a blue, light blue, white pearl, and dark green. If you go to www.countertopepoxy.com they have a good selection of colors and a very diverse line of resins.
Hi Carol, you can go to the settings button in the lower right corner and select speed and choose 0.5 or less to slow it down. Really helps in these videos!

Hi David, It mentions oil paint in the description, is that in the black paint? I thought the black was resin with pigments, so i'm not sure where the oil paint is? Love you art :)

Could you do a bathtub like this? I know you have to have flat surfaces but if you can move the tub could it be possible?
I'm sure its possible but Im not 100% on the logistics. If you check out www.countertopepoxy.com they have a wall epoxy that is designed to go on vertical surfaces. That might be the way to go.

What's in the spray bottle?
I love your work but I have tried to do the resin pieces and I always have a bubble or several what am I doing wrong?
you can take a butane torch and lightly run it over the surface of the piece and it will pop the bubbles. I always do a second layer of clear resin which evens out the piece and covers over most of the imperfections of the first layer.

Question I’m thinking of getting your EPOXY RESIN 1 Gal Kit, General Purpose, Crystal Clear+hardener for a project! what type of best paint should I use for a super glossy painting work on a thin wood or hard canvas? Will flat acrylic paint work or can I go with simple quart of Home Depot paint of mixed colors if so glossy added in the paint what do you think
Cesar Gallardo I wouldn't get the crystal clear epoxy. I haven't used it but when I called years ago to inquire about it they made it seem like it was not designed for being manipulated after it was poured. I use FX poxy from www.countertopepoxy.com. they are having a new years sale which ends today I believe for 20% off. Their product works great and is very durable and UV reaistant. You can use a lot of different color mediums but the safest bet is to buy the pigments from the website above. For a piece similar to this one you could use their black liquid base pigment mixed into the resin for the base color and then light blue, blue, and green metallic pigments mixed with clear resin for the other colors. If you have any questions or dont know what to buy you can call them and they are very helpful. Have a great day!

I have heard so many people say not to use oil with resin. It later leaches out, sometimes onto the customer's floor. Am I missing something?
Barbara McKinney I have not had the experience. i finish all my pieces with clear resin so I doubt it could leach through. I also have friends who have been doing epoxy countertops with oil-based pigment for decades and have never had that issue. as a general rule resin is not meant to be mixed with water based products such as acrylic. You can definitely use acrylic with resin but I find the oil is more compatible.

David Stein is it like a drop only or a squirt? I used two squirts of acrylic and resin turned into a gooey mix
sk4152424 i use a pretty thin oil enamel so I dont dilute it and i put a squirt. You basically want to add as little as possible to get an opaque background. i al a small amount and the pull some out on the paint stick to make sure it is opaque. Its not all that crucial how much you put. Hope that helps

Jason Hallmark it is 1/2" mdf primed with rustoleum oil enamel.

darrinsurett07 im not sure what I used on this one. I have a collected a lot of colors from different places over the years. Their colors are awesome though. Good particle size and 100% uv resistant so they wont fade.
