  • Saturday 17th August saw UK Railtours promote a charter, in connection with the annual Bus Rally at Imber. Located on the Salisbury Plain, the Village of Imber has remained uninhabited since December 1943, when the residents were evicted by the Ministry of Defence, as the area would be used for training exercises, in readiness for D-Day. Presently, the MOD open the location to the public for a few days each year.
The railtour, titled 'By Routemaster to the lost Village of Imber', would run from Tonbridge to Warminster and return, utilising the Hastings Diesel Limited's 'Thumper' DEMU No. 1001. The outward journey would run via Redhill, London Waterloo, Woking and Basingstoke, before heading into Wiltshire via Andover. The return journey would travel via Romsey, Southampton and Winchester, before retracing the same route as the outward leg.
Following a signal check at Southampton Airport Parkway, the seven coach DEMU is seen powering along the up fast line through Eastleigh station, on the return journey to Tonbridge.
