  • The World Cup season has arrived, and with that, we are back with our regularly scheduled post-race banter! Fort William went off with a bang, providing one of the most thrilling and engaging season openers we've seen. Numerous team changes were finally put on display against the clock; the track was dry, fast, and ridiculously rough, and the level of racing in all four categories was tighter and more intense than ever. With plenty of topics to hit, like speed suits, electronic suspension lockouts, and Dakotah's mega-rise bars, it was awesome to have the crew back together to chat about elite downhill racing. Enjoy!

I resonate strongly with Dakota's analogy, with short arms and long torso, I need much taller bar and longer reach to achieve the same arm articulation room.

Dakota inspired me to dare and try 50mm rise bars (spank's low-end alum riser) on my 140/130mm trail bike. Verdict? I love the hi-rise feeling. Have not deciphered any downsides to it. Plus sides are it's way more fun to take questionable lines when you're bent over the front as one would with a typical low rise bar, and never a worry about lower back soreness either. Prediction: it's going to catch on in a hurry, once more people try it as it's not what 'they' tell you to do.

Watch most even remotely tall riders and they’ll often have a moment where the press up arm position very easily crosses over into oh shit I’m going over the bars lower your upper body moment if they get to high or forward. Ya just don’t have the strength in your shoulders. One of Greg Minaars issues with the Santa Cruz was he felt Jackson had an advantage being lower to the bars and you can see it in JG’s riding. And Laurie’s actually. …you can feel your shoulders popping if it happens too often it’s a horrible feeling

True that, when my bar was not high enough, pushing into the bar forced me to bend down and rely more on shoulder than chest.

Dakotah also really loves dirt bikes that's another reason why his mtb bars are very similar to his dirt bike bars

Can you buy the bars anywhere? I’d love to try them out
