Personally have only ever used bonito as chum/bait. Always thought it was too bloody to eat. Thank you for showing us how to filet and cook them. Great vid!
My friend, there’s two different fish that get mistaken all the time. They go by different names and they’re similar looking and that’s what makes it confusing. There’s Atlantic Bonito that have teeth. And then there’s false albacore that do not have teeth. False digger. They both fight like hell. Eating wise are very different. False with no teeth, have a ton of bloodline . But if you bleed them right and eat them fresh, they make awesome sashimi as well. Atlantic Bonito is a totally different thing . Some people say they’re even better than Bluefin tuna!
It is awesome and these fish are just such incredible fighters!!! But I spent a lot of time fishing lakes in Florida growing up as a kid and I miss that too!!! Chasing those giant Florida bass there is something special too!!!
They get real think up here for about six weeks every spring. You might want to consider trying a trip up here next spring mid April to mid May would be the best. I really wanted to take my Hobie out this year for them, but it just never worked out . But I’m sure it would be amazing getting them out of the yak!!!!
@@davefish84 i’m now living 3000 miles away from Florida. It was nice while I was there. Normally all we would catch is the southern Bonita, which are just an absolute bloody mess. Only thing they are good for is shark bait. Atlantic Bonita, a great eating fish.
@@Chiptaker419 yes I know what you’re talking about. Those things are so much fun to catch, but not so much for eating. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you living now and what’s the Fishing where you’re at now currently ? I’m blessed to be here in eastern North Carolina with such an abundance of species from insured offshore .
Love catching them so much fun great video
Thank YOU!
