  • The only way to understand what a lifelong suffering Cubs fan felt in 2016, both during the wild ride and after winning the WS is to actually be one. No other sports experience compares. But this MLB Network documentary (only 35 min with commercials taken out) describes it pretty darn accurately!

One old loyal Cubs man way in a coma and in hospice during the World Series.
But his daughter would go to his room and tell him the results of every game.
Right after they won, she went to his room and told them they finally did it.
He passed away only a few hours later.
Probably died the happiest man on earth that day.

I can't watch this without crying. I live right outside of Chicago and Northwest Indiana and I've been a Cubs fan my whole life. My aunt and uncle were at game 7 and got to witness it before my aunt passing a few years later. All baseball teams are special but the Cubs just have a little something extra. They bring together friends and family like no other team. That's because in my opinion that's what Chicago does. We have the best sports fans. Period

I was born, raised and still reside in the state of Kentucky. In 1981, my family signed up for cable television. One of those channels, just happened to be channel 24, WGN out of Chicago. WGN aired most of the Cubs game. I was hooked, almost immediately. I've been a cubs fan since 1981, and winning the 2016 World Series is beyond words. To this day, I almost still can't believe it.

I was not born into being a Cubs fan. I grew up in Nebraska. My Mom was an all around sports fan. All she really watched was sports and soaps. Her mom and most of her siblings were/are huge Cardinal fans. (They had a very friendly rivalry ) I grew up with my parents being Royals fans. KC was only 2 hours away so we went to at least one game a year and we got KC stations so she could watch the games. Then in the mid-80's we got WGN and that is when she became a Cubs fan. She still loved the Royals but the Cubs were her team. But she liked baseball so much she even like the Braves because she could watch them on TBS when the Cubs were not playing at the same time. She died in 2012 so she did not get to see them win.

if you grew up anywhere near Chicago, you knew what this would mean. We might've lived on the South Side, Sox territory, but we were Cubs fans. Every single year, I would watch to see how far the Cubs would go, and every single time they lost I would say "I am not dying until I see them win". I was at school in San Francisco when the news came out that they made it to the playoffs, and for the first time, I allowed this little bit of hope. Maybe....maybe this time. My friend called me crazy, and I couldn't blame her. They NEVER won. When the last game went to the 10th and a rain delay happened, i almost started praying. And when they won, I screamed. I called my mom. my roommates at the time thought I had gone insane cuz none of them knew the story, none of them were from Chicago. I still see that joy every day, almost two years later. there's not a day that goes by that I don't see SOMEONE wearing blue, the bar across the street flies the W, and we're still celebrating.

Told my Wife I will have to go myself. It will be too emotional to share it with anyone but him. Made that promise before a Wife and Kids back in 2008 on his deathbed. I dreamed of this moment my whole life. To the ivy my family planted on our front deck. The wiffle ball games hitting homers and imagining the ball landed in the basket in left field. To the games i went to with my uncle and father and friends. To the time a 12 year old boy met Harry Carey and got his autograph and still hangs it in his home. This was the most amazing game I have ever seen. Go Cubs Go! I watched this game in Texas as a Correctional officer and will never forget that night.

I’ve always wondered why the Cowboys are called Americas team. The Chicago Cubs are Americas team. Watch any away game and there are almost as many Cubs fans as there are fans of the home team. From Arizona to Milwaukee to Florida to New York to Texas. It doesn’t matter. Kids would come home from school to Harry Caray singing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” when they got home. WGN created millions of Cubs fans. Just watch their championship parade. I’m not being a homer, these are all just facts. It sucks that it took that long, but it was worth the wait. My great grandma would watch games with me as a child. She was watching from Heaven in 2016, and I will never forget that feeling of the winning of the World Series!

Really enjoyed this but the video seems a bit incomplete. It cuts off abruptly at the end, I think before it's completely over, and I was really looking forward to hearing how the different fans felt in the 9th and 10th innings as Zobrist doubled in the go-ahead run, Rizzo put both hands on his head at 3rd base in disbelief, and then the Indians getting a run back in the bottom of the 10th before getting that final out. All of that seemed to be missing and I wondered if that was the fault of the documentary or the person recording it who missed a segment.

I read comments of Cubs fans getting emotional. I am an SF Giants fan and I get emotional watching this. Why? Not because the 2016 Cubs eliminated the Giants on the way to the WS. I was mad the night it happened, but now I almost feel honored that my team was a part of the Cubs historic journey. So...not crying out of anger that the Giants lost. I get emotional because I know how it feels to finally break through. I get it. Cubs fans deserved 2016 just as much if not more than Red Sox fans deserved 2004, and White Sox fans deserved 2005, and my fellow Giants fans deserved 2010. That moment when you break through and the euphoria that goes with it is only understandable if you've been through it with your team. Great documentary, and what a great team Theo and the Cubs management put together in 2016.
