    Technically a Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover has already happened via comics with Assimilation². Which featured the 11th doctor, Amy and Rory teaming up with TNG and the 4th doctor teaming up with TOS against a combined cyberman and Borg threat.

    I liked the comic with the 11th meeting the TNG crew (and in that one there was a flashback of the 4th meeting the original series crew). I’m fine with that for head-cannon. If it was done, Lower Decks would be the easiest, but doubtful now that it was not renewed. However, Lower Deck crew would be good at running!

    It's already been done twice, in a format that made it optimally fun and believable, the comics, with versions of the ST crews that were worthy (The Prime Universe). To do it live action now, especially with the current Star Trek properties, would cheapen both, in my opinion.
    To quote the wise one, "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
    The possible exception would be the charity option, where it's not canon to either series. Just something fun. Then I could get behind it.

    The big problem I think with epic crossovers of major properties like this is, if it ever happens, the writers, the producers, everyone, would have to bring their A game. It would have to be every bit as epic and meaningful to both franchises as we expect it to be. It can't be a lark. Trek and Who have had some wonderful stories over the years, but they've both had their share of turkeys too. This can't be a turkey. It has to be good. Which I think is liable to kill any ambition the production teams might have. If they feel during the story stage that they can't pull off a properly meaningful event, they'd probably just scrap it.

    Star Trek has has a rough ride. Except for SNW the most recent series have had stellar final seasons., although their early seasons were lacking at times. These series are gone or will be soon. No, because of different genres. Dr. Who is fantasy with elements of sci-fi (sometimes strong sci-fi elements in an episode like "Boom"). Star Trek stems from pulp sci-fi traditions. The science of Trek can be admittedly "wibbly-wobbly ". There have always been fantasy elements in Trek - a case can be made that Trelane and Q are fantasy elements. Still, I'm not wild about Trek going total fantasy.

    To me, when the Companion asked "is that like Star Trek", it was stating that Star Trek is a show in the Doctor Who universe. So maybe the Doctor (Who) wants to visit the Star Trek sets. They could have an episode where the Star Trek cast guest stars as themselves.
    I also remember reading something sometime way back that basically said that any created fictional universe actually pops into existence somewhere. So it would be very cool to be able to jump between those different universes.

    I think it could be comical in a sense to have BOTH be fiction in the other one's universe... i.e. Dr Who is a Holodeck program that in its typical way, gets out of control and an episode of Dr Who where they end up on the set of the Enterprise in California taking on some real alien threat. Trying to make both fictions "real" could end up being a disaster.

The plot of the episode would be about them teaming up to discover how two seeming fictional shows can be real. There would be debates over which TV show is the real one and which one is made up.

    I want to put an idea out there. Robert A Heinlein wrote a storey in the late 80's called the Number Of The Beast. The essential premiss of the book is that fiction, if read by enough minds can creat that reality. So the stories of OZ, The Grey Lensman stories, The bible all exist as realities in which the portaganists travel through and have adventures in. This could be a premiss to the current stories fo Dr Who. Fantasy becomes reality if enough people believe!

    Except for visiting the set, the only thing I could see happening (also with what Paramount might let happen), would be The Doctor trying to take the TARDIS somehow into another multiverse (or omniverse) to save another companion (so Series Two) from the big bad or what-have-you. They have a rough landing on a planet and the Doctor opens the doors just a crack to peek outside. Audibly we hear, sampled from the "City on the Edge of Forever", Spock referencing the temporal readings of the Guardian, implying it's suggesting that Spock is scanning the TARDIS. The Doctor quickly closes the doors as Ruby asks, "What is it?" The Doctor looks at her, pauses, then says, "Wrong multiverse." And immediately forces the TARDIS to leave as if he's afraid of what could happen.

    The best way to keep the continuity of both series intact would be to have the doctor go back to the 60s. In the middle of civil rights strife in california, the doctor comes across a Hollywood screenwriter named Gene. Gene somehow gets swept up with the doctor and the tardis into Earth's future which loosely resembles the Star Trek universe with some recognizable characters but clearly some societal strife and problems that they're struggling to correct. Along the way Gene comes across several races of Doctor who aliens and societies. Ultimately, Gene returns to his own time and struggling with everything he's now just learned, decides to try and write it into his own storyline of a more refined and perfect future which ends up giving us the Star Trek that we know.

    Story idea: When the Master found out the Doctor is not from that universe, he realized that means the Doctor is unique to that universe. Alternative universes don't have another Doctor. Since the Doctor always defeats him, he decided to conquer other universes instead, and he started with the universe where Star Trek is real. He started the Temporal Wars. He is the holographic person from the future, never seen clearly in Star Trek Enterprise.
    He caused a problem for the Sphere Builders in their universe, causing them to invade the Star Trek universe. They found out the Master actually came from another universe (the Whoniverse), so they combined their DNA with a humanoid (maybe specifically a HUMAN from Earth) to create the Timeless Child. They wanted Tecteun to raise the Timeless Child to eventually defeat the Master. This would mean that Timelords are our descendants.
    The Doctor accidentally released the Toymaker and his children, and some of them went to the Star Trek universe and became the Q. And maybe the Cybermen used a void ship to go to the Star Trek universe (in the past) and became the Borg. Maybe the reason the Q (Toymaker's children) fear the Borg (Q told his son "DONT PROVOKE THE BORG") is because the Borg (formerly Cybermen) learned the secret of how to banish them from the universe again.
    And in today's episode of Discovery, the Progenitor's Structure behaves like a TARDIS. They said it's an entry to another dimension, and seems to be bigger on the inside. Maybe Section 31 got ahold of the Progenitor's Structure and learned to build more...then they decided to move to another universe and experiment on that other universe. When they moved to that other universe (the Whoniverse), they met Tecteun. At the time they met, Tecteun had just learned to give people Regeneration, and Section 31 had a TARDIS. They worked together to start the Timelord civilization, and they renamed Section 31 to "The Division". Maybe "The Other" in Timelord history was someone from Section 31...maybe Empress Georgiou.
    If all of this was written into one story, it would mean that the Whoniverse AND the Trek universe are the way we know them now because they both changed each other's pasts. There might even be a predestination paradox involved. This would be much more complicated (and interesting) than just having the cast of one show VISIT the other show for 2 hours.

    Besides the “Assimilation” crossover comics, I know there have been other DW-related things in Trek, like the Classic Doctor actors named in “The Neutral Zone” at the end of TNG season 1. But, there was also that time ship in an episode of “Enterprise” which was bigger on the inside. I think that a proper, full crossover would have to be with the Doctor appearing in Trek, rather than some sort of reason where characters from Trek go over to DW. I definitely think it could work, especially with the most recent DW season doing a lot where they’re breaking down the walls of reality, the multiverse etc. Even the Doctor commenting on the score for the show, along with 4th wall breaks. At the absolute very least, they could do it in animation, as they could even bring back the older casts.

    I would have enjoyed seeing this on Lower Decks as a holodeck episode with Rutherford testing a program after making an upgrade. The Doctor gets connected as a holodeck character and has to create a mobile emitter on the fly to help Rutherford with whatever bigger problem happens to the ship. Rutherford and company would think he was just a holodeck character and they might get a damaged prototype mobile emitter at the end when The Doctor breaks the connection. And with that The Doctor ends up helping The Doctor without anyone realizing it. Feel free to use this somehow. I just love the possible shenanigans that would happen.

    The only way I could see it possibly working is if The Doctor goes back to when they’re making TOS in the sixties, as a fan of the show, only to discover that Gene Roddenberry is in fact another time traveller who is attempting to seed humanity’s future by giving them a co-cooperative and utopian vision of what humanity could become.

    Don't tell Ellie but the Library where River ended up is in its own fantasy reality universe program and if fantasy is now reality........... Yep the Library Doctor could pop up 😂😂

  • @gestaltdude
    @gestaltdude 22 дні тому

    One major issue with the theory that fantasy becomes reality is there would have to be a major shift in current Earth history in order to the Trek universe to exist. The Eugenics Wars, WW3, literally the end of the world as we know it in order for it to be rebuilt after the Vulcans arrive following the invention of warp drive in 39 years..Well, you know the backstory. The problem is that modern Who has always kept stories set in the present rooted in current history, merely adding an additional event. For everything to change so suddenly would take a being so powerful even the Doctor wouldn't have a chance of winning.

    Given that cheeky stuff in TNG, it would have been interesting if Sylvester McCoy had turned up on the Enterprise D. He rather fits it, to my way of thinking. The trouble is, Star Trek is so much about the human endeavour, you can't really have an alien waltzing in and potentially solving everything. Unless he gets rescued, of course.

  • @QBCPerdition

    Since Star Trek has a multiverse, all you need is one or the other to hop dimensions, go on a romp, then get the one home with a heartfelt "until we meet again."

  • @ernestcline2868
    @ernestcline2868 22 дні тому

    There was a Star Trek short story that involved a variation of the accident that caused Kirk to visit the mirror universe instead causing Kirk and some other Enterprise crew members to exchange places with the actors playing them on Star Trek. So a Doctor Who episode involving some Doctor Who aliens as clueless as the aliens in Galaxy Quest crashing the production of a Star Trek series thinking it's a documentary series with Doctor Who then having to set things right with the help of one or more Star Trek cast members would be an interesting idea.
    The other possibility along those lines would be for a Federation crew member having a holodeck Doctor Who adventure which then has the real Doctor Who show up in the actual TARDIS causing typical holodeck malfunctional hilarity.

    The only thing really stopping them: corporate IPs and licensing. Paramount is about to be sold off, likely to Sony from what we hear, so it would be in their ballpark to negotiate with Disney and/or the Beeb on that one. Sounds like an utter mess, and would it really be worth it to them to do all that for one episode or 2?

  • @willmorrell971
    @willmorrell971 22 дні тому +1

    If you wanted it to crossover I think the best way is having one of the shows being 'fictional'. Simple idea, In Dr Who the human race learns to travel and colonise most of space, so an alien race tries to stop them, one of the ways could be to disrupt a TV show called 'Star Trek' that had a driving influence. Something could happen to an actor, all actors or just the set itself that might a disrupting effect or have a special reason to go to that location. Someone is watching 'star trek' and they call it 'mavity plating or gravity plating' Doctor goes to investigate why it is they are calling it gravity plating when that word should not exist anymore

  • @SladeDoobiedog

    As far as resolving the hang-up of Star Trek seemingly being both a known work of fiction within the Whoverse while also being an actual reality out there, something that could be said of universes across the multiverse is that, hey, these are places that have either been literally created wholecloth by the work of one or a collection of persons' imagination and writing, or maybe somehow images of an existing universe pops into someone's mind one day (interpreting it as ideas just suddenly springing to mind), and every flash of inspiration for stories within that universe are things that have already unfolded there.
    Probably still convoluted n' such, but something I always thought about in general even before all this came up. (Heck, maybe there could be a meta joke thrown in there somewhere with the Doctor deliberately breaking the fourth wall for a moment or two, speaking about his universe being fiction in someone else's universe. Dumb thought, but somethin' silly maybe.)

    Both of the shows have referenced or employed some sort of "null space" that exists "in between" whatever (as in when Burnham encountered the ISS Enterprise) right?
    So if you want them to meet, have them encounter each other in such a null space. maybe there's a planet that got trapped in there and they have to work together to save those people?
    Seems a neat way to have them in the same story but NOT ultimately in the same universe (potentially, each are a fictional world in the other's reality - there's a long history of a trope in SF of "every fictional universe is actually a real universe somewhere" so...there ya go.

    I could see it working on Lower Decks (maybe a LD Short Trek) with them loading up a Holodeck program based on an old British TV show. I think it would only be fair to make the Doctor fictional in the Trek universe since Who has made Trek fictional in theirs.

    I think in the late 80's or early 90' there was a piece of fan fiction available at the cons called "The Doctor and The Enterprise". I believe it was the Tom Baker doctor (I can't remember the companion) and the TARDIS somehow crossed over into the Star Trek Universe. Seems like the Doctor described where Galifrey was and they looked it up in the Star Fleet star charts and discovered a planet there but it was uninhabited. It might have been a mirror universe sort of thing. Anyway, general craziness ensued while they tried to get the Doctor back to his proper place.

    Depending on your opinion on that execrable Dimensions in Time anniversary special and whether it's canon, East Enders doesn't just exist fictionally in the Doctor Who universe, it exists properly in the Doctor Who universe. But perhaps that is best just forgotten. :) (Sorry I know that wasn't the main thrust of this discussion, but East Enders was referenced.)
