We watched this before posting our Heart of the Swarm reaction so didn't get to Reclamation. We plan on watching that before our second half of Legacy of the Void as we were told it is still relevant knowledge to have. Thanks everyone! 🥳🥳
19:43 Zeratul's "My life for Aiur" is the most emotional phrase in the entire franchise. After all this time, after all the hate, after everything he and his people had gone through... the love for his Homeworld, is still above his own life, just like any other Protoss. It made me cry, back then, and it still gives me chill today.
It’s unfortunate that the Zerg campaign didn’t show much of the other smaller conversations which helped to flesh out the characters a bit, but they were not related to the story at all so I can see why they were cut. Also a lot of in-game cutscenes which helped to do this as well. Rip, you may never know the greatness that is Abathur and his quest to cure the Zerg of their lemon allergy
19:43 "my life...for Aiur..." God... After all this years still hurts zeratul's death... A real Hero for the protoss, and a awesome character. 33:33 best moment ever... I love StarCraft history
he had to die everyone loved him and they wanted artanis to become major protoss character :D artanis/ tassadar duo was actually meant to shinein first game with tassadar dying at end but somehow everyone fell in love with zerathul and ignored rest
My dad used to play the first Starcraft a lot late at night after work when I was really young I’d always see him filled with various of emotions when playing the game and I’d watch him play over and over again for hours not understanding anything but he’d try his best to explain the game to me then my mom would always come out of the bedroom to yell at both of us to go to sleep 😂 now it’s my era to play Starcraft 2 and I’m super happy to finally understand what my dad went through and nowww I’m watching you guys reacting to this it and it’s reminding me of the fond memories I’d experience Thank you and looking forward to many more of your guys’s reactions!
Narazim means "dark templar" One of the 4 factions of protoss. There's also: -Templar/"firstborn" (Artanis) -Purifiers (Robots) -Taldarim (worshippers of amon) FYI... "Alarak" is a taldarim Everybody loves him.
There is actually, a Easter Egg, Regarding him in Coop Commander mode. If you play as Fenix Commander, and Build all 6 hero AIs then the next probe you build will be Probius
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames That probe from the Legacy of The Void opening cinematic is named Probius. It is an hero featured in the MOBA game Heroes of the Storm.ua-cam.com/video/vEH40-PaDD8/v-deo.html
try to imagine... we met zeratul in 1998... seeing him die was hard man.... was really hard... To see the dark templar you need to watch the game Brood War ... it's worth it
Entaro Zeratul. He was one of the coolest characters and one of my absolute favorites. ✊😭 And i hope you noticed that Artanis used Zeratuls Blade on his right arm instead of his other blue one. This is also why Raynor gave him this look as they shaked hands and he noticed. :D But i'm really missing some ingame chatters and the chats with the characters on the ship. You get only tiny bits to understand the characters. And some sequences weren't even there. And sadly the short "Reclamation" was missing too. I hope you will do "Reclamation" as a bonus. :D Besides that it was a great reaction and i'm really glad and everytime i burst out of joy when people dive in these universes. It's really a pleasure and heartwarming for me.
Reclamation will be in next vid as we didn’t know about it before watching this 😅 and there was actually even a shorter vid of only an hour that claimed to be “all” cutscenes. How is that possible? 😂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yes that "Reclamation" video is PERFECT just before the starting trailer of legacy of the void. it really should be a part of this video. its awesome!
"You speak of knowledge, Judicator? You speak of experience? I have journeyed the darkness between the most distant stars. I have beheld the birth of negative suns and the entropy of entire realities. In *MY* experience Aldaris, all that you have built here on Aiur is but a fleeting dream; a dream from which you will wake, finding yourselves drowned in a greater nightmare." -Zeratul, schooling Judicator Aldaris En Arudin Zeratul! Your deeds will never be forgotten!
Something of note that wasn't in the recap video at the start; Raynor was on Aiur when it fell. Tassadar and he met shortly after Mengsks betrayal and they respected each other instantly. When Tassadar was ordered back home Jim came with him and fought off the zerg when they arrived. Both Raynor and Fenix remained behind on Aiur to ensure Artanis, Zeratul and the rest of the survivors could escape safely. They were later rescued by a deceptive Queen of Blades who used them to advance her goals. This is why Raynor has such respect from Artans and all other protoss.
There was one deleted mission in SC1 (re-added in SC2 mass recall mod) showing how Tassadar and Raynor met. They actually met on Mar Sara before while fighting off the Zerg. Impressed by Raynor, Tassadar offered his assistance to destroy the hive cluster.
So... for the sacrifice of "soldiers" differences between Zerg and Protoss. The zerg swarm is basically endless as they share one hivemind, she doesn't care how many get threw cause she doesn't have to. A drone (worker) morphs into an hatchery. The hatchery produces the eggs in which the soldiers are "born". Its what happened with the captured protoss in HotS where she planted a seedling into her which morhped into a broodqueen, who lays eggs, ect... "The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives" that's how the zerg are. The protoss and terrans however have limited troups which have all their own identities, their own personalities, their own Souls. They're individuals. So when one dies, the loss is so much more than just a body. In the previous part (HotS) its even said that the zerg lost its individualty by the creation of the hivemind.
StarCraft cutscenes/movies aren't really very good at telling the story, it all happens in game and the dialogue in StarCraft 1 is amazing with a few truly jaw dropping burns in there. Definitely worth checking out a full game video.
Yup, there are plenty of holes in the story when you don't include the story elements from the actual gameplay, but at that point it turns into a 5+ hour video, and i doubt they're gonna make 5 videos like this just about LotV.
So true, I was just thinking earlier how you understand the whole story so much better when you watch the cutscenes with the gameplay dialogue. Watching both, though definitely will take more time, makes it so much more in depth story wise and it becomes so much more clear.
So glad you two did this in 2 parts, there is a lot to digest in the final expansion. For the cinematic where Artanis walked the shadow path, where he is alone against the zerg; that scene is so powerful, especially with Zeratul narating in the background the dark templars tradition. Back in starcraft 1, on the same place, Shakuras, they stood together to power up the temple and defend it from the zerg attacks. Here, in starcraft 2, the story repeats itself only this time, Artanis is alone, wielding Zeratul's blade. Aside from being a bad ass scene, it is also an extremely emotional moment for Artanis, doing this again, but without Zeratul. On the opening cinematic with the protoss vs zerg battle; you see the two high templars merging into an archon. The high templars can choose to merge together into an extremely powerful being if they choose so; this mostly happends on the battle field when one of them is mortally wounded, the other will choose to sacrifice himself in order to start the merging sequence. The phrase "power overwhelming" that the archon says after the merging is complete, it is the "god mode" or invulnerability cheat code from starcraft 1. Think of high templars as mages for the protoss, they wield extremely powerful psionic energies and they can summon psionic storms on the battlefield; they don't have psi blades like other templars. At 56:29 Clearly Kerrigan was overpowered by the hybrid; Artanis pointing his blade at her was more like "sit down b*tch, i will show you how it's done". Worth mentioning here is the fact that he didn't just go full hate mode on Kerrigan; instead he thought things through and gave her a chance. He is such a good leader. Remember, Artanis and Kerrigan were enemies since... forever. Artanis didn't know that her "humanity" started to resurface again from the Heart of the Swarm expansion nor what she's been through in the previous movie. To him, she is still the murderous Queen of blades that kills everything in her path and he could've easily killed her right there. So glad he didn't! :) Can't wait for next week! Your reactions are always on point and i like how you draw parallels with our daily lives. Cheers!
We knew more of Kerrigan than Artanis, so naturally took her side, but totally have respect for Artanis and believe he is a great leader and has a good head on his shoulder. The "I'll show you how it's done" gave us a good laugh 😂😁
Lore tips: At a certain point, most of the Protoss race have connected to the Khala - "a sacred union of all our thoughts and emotions". The Khala was essentially a neural/telepathic/psionic network that all Protoss naturally had access to via their nerve cords, and they used it to be permanently connected to each other, allowing every individual to share all other's thoughts and feelings. However, some Protoss refused to become part of the Khala as they feared losing their own identity within a common network. Most of them have even ritualistically severed the cords so to never be able to connect to the Khala, which eventually, made them immune to Amon's possession, as they were literally "unplugged" from his influence. Those have eventually become known as the Nerazim, most known of whom are the Dark Templar. They remained much more indivdualistic then Khala-connected Protoss, but never were hostile or violent towards their brethren, rather, they wished to remain on their own. However, the Conclave, the Protoss ruling body at the time, considered such individualism nothing short of heresy, as the Nerazim have practiced different, "dark" arts of the Protoss, which eventually lead to them becoming a splinter group of the Protoss, based on Shakuras, the planet that was destroyed in that story (and also served as a major battleground in the first StarCraft's story). Also, at the Protoss part of the first StarCraft's story, it was revealed that the energies of the Dark Templar is the only thing capable of permanently slaying the Zerg Overmind and its agents, Cerebrates, as the creatures would be inevitably reincarnated and reborn if destroyed any other way. Matriarch Vorazun in this story is a daughter of a former Matriarch, Razsagal, whose Prelate (i.e. highest-ranking knight and best warrior) was Zeratul. Razsagal has appeared in frist StarCraft's story as the leader of the Nerazim. Early on in the story, but unknown to most characters, player character included, she was corrupted/infested by Kerrigan and became her double agent. Though Zeratul noticed that Razsagal became much more wrathful and violent then usual, he didn't make anything of it. When Artanis and Zeratul's ally, Judicator Aldaris, found out about her betrayal, she set him up so he would seem like a traitor, and had Artanis and Zeratul's forces kill him. Later, she was apparently kidnapped by Kerrigan's Zerg forces in order to blackmail Zeratul into killing the new Overmind gestating on planet Char. Again, Zeratul was needed as only a Dark Templar could kill those things permanently. Kerrigan promised that if Zeratul does that, she will allow Razsagal to walk free, "if she so desired". This was all a sick joke, of course. After Zeratul has slain the Overmind, Kerrigan did indeed allow Razsagal to walk free, but the former Matriarch, infested by the Zerg, instead wished to stay, proclaiming loyalty to her Queen. It all ended with Zeratul having to mercy-kill Razsagal in order to free her from Kerrigan's clutches, which is why Vorazun is not that trusting of Zeratul in the present. The whole thing with Razsagal was very sad and, at that moment, just made everyone hate Kerrigan even more.
Yeah Kerrigan had some people to win over for sure it seems and we can see why some people will never like her. We only really know her from this instead of the monster she became in 1 so we are more on board with her redemption story 🙂
Trailer: Hey Protoss players, you know all that lore you like about Protoss? Come see it! Game: Hey Protoss players, you know all that lore you like about Protoss? We are getting rid of it!
Protoss means Firstborn. In the days of Adun the Protoss who were starting to explore psionic powers devastated Aiur with psi storms and due to resulting lack of resources civil war started. Adun decided to do something about it, so he stared to unify clans under him with both persuasion and military might. The first clans that joined him became Adjudicator caste, the judges, leaders and scholars who formed the Conclave, basically parliament of Protoss that ruled until Zerg invasion of Aiur. Not many Adjudicators are around after Zerg chewed trough them. Second wave of those who joined him or were subjugated became Templars, the warrior caste, the honorable disciplined zealots under command of Conclave trough appointed Executors who each get an advisor from Adjudicator caste that keeps an eye on them. Those who refused to join and had to be subjugated became Khalai caste, these are the workers, craftsmen, artisans, technologists. Those who refused to join the collective under Conclave (the Khala that keeps within it even the memory imprints of the physically dead Protoss) and severed their nerves that allowed easy telepathy among Protoss became Nerazim, whose warriors became known as Dark Templar because they started using energies that did not originate in starlight, but in Void. Daelaam (Aiur Protoss) thought Adun killed off the Dark Templars except for few who escaped to the stars but instead he gathered them and send them off Aiur. So he is honored with the phrase "En Taro Adun" (Daelaam) and "Adun Toridas" (Nerazim) for uniting Auir which ended civil war and sparing them respectively. Nerazim traveled until they settled on Shakuras because they found a giant Xel´Naga temple there, but it was more a production base and mating site than true home world because Nerazim are loners and tend to run off to travel solo across the universe for long stretches of time. Then in SC2 there is a new faction named Tal´Darim that was based on selfishness, which makes little sense for beings that grow up with permanent access to heads of others. Even Nerazim who want to stay in their own heads are empathetic. But apparently Tal´Darim are Amon worshipers which makes that OK (?). So SC2 comes around and basically gets rid of the caste system with Karax being both a Phasesmith and a Templar warrior, stops reclamation of Aiur, gets rid of Shakuras, kills off all but one keeper of memories of the Protoss race and severs all connection to Khala even though the combined psi might of the entire Protoss race should have burned Amon out if individuals were able to resist him for any length of time. Protoss will not even be able to build anything more complex than a windmill now without the access to the accumulated knowledge of the generations that came before them. SC2 went nuts with the story just to make Kerrigan the gleeful murderer of billions into a hero.
@@Matej_Sojka "Protoss will not even be able to build anything more complex than a windmill now without the access to the accumulated knowledge of the generations", Computers and memory storage are a thing. Honestly turning up that much stuff just makes the story more interesting. Amon is literally the worst case scenario, it would be weird, if this would not change the protoss.
@@shadowpaladin8412 They have memory crystals and other record media but they relied on Khala for so long they are boned without it. No more multidimensional storage matrices, no more quantum computing crystal arrays... The most advanced tech from their expansion age is already forgotten and now it got worse.
@@Matej_Sojka The dark templar would have quite a bit to say about this. Given they're technologically comparable and have been without the khala for over 1000 years. You have a lot of good points you just take them a step or two too far. And considering even what they have left as is, they're still well ahead of terran tech, so they're hardly boned. This isn't a defense of what SC2 did to them, I agree it was plot butchery.
@@Matej_Sojka I still think it's an interesting direction for the Protoss. It lends credibility to the trope of "ancient technology that is more advanced than what we have now". We were just able to see the Protoss at a time when they could build that advanced tech. They just need to keep that consistent going forward. Protoss from now on should be limited technologically. If they show up the next time in whatever direction the Starcraft IP goes and are more advanced than they were in Starcraft 2 - then that will be a shame.
I'm always happy to see new people get introduced to the starcraft universe. It's fun to watch people's reactions and hear their thoughts about it. You two seem to be enjoying it and that makes me happy as a starcraft fan.
Artanis is such a great character. He's actually the "player perspective" in the first Starcraft, as a super young protoss who rose up the ranks quickly, and then becomes an NPC in Brood War (the expansion) to replace Tassadar (the big NPC who uses the light and dark energies to kill the zerg overmind at the end of the first game). I like to think that the player perspective character in Brood War is Selendis, the female Protoss that stands beside Artanis at the beginning of the game. But yeah, Artanis arc from a young and naive commander to a leader of his people is just amazing. And Zeratul's death, after SO LONG following him, is so heartbreaking.
arriving late at the watch party but hopefully with some interesting Protoss sayings: there are two common salutes/farewells: The "normal" protoss use "En Taro (Name)" meaning "In honor of -"; they used to say En Taro Adun, Adun being a great hero for all protoss factions who did great things to end a millenia long civil war in the ancient protoss past. After the events of Starcraft 1, they began using En Taro Tassadar, in honor of the hero who sacrificed to kill the Zerd Overmind. Being included in this farewell while alive is an expression of great reverence. Adun is also included in the common Dark Templar farewell: Adun Toridas, meaning "Adun hide (give sanctuary/ protect) you". This references how Adun hid the Dark Templar from the Conclave and helped them establish a hidden home in Shakuras.
Love starting out my week this way! @:016 "Team Kerrigan" Damn Straight! @7:52 That really was a great summary of the entire story line. @9:32 That thing is an 'archon' which says 'power overwhelming' and it takes two templars to merge into it. The power Overwhelming line is used a lot in the starcraft community and was a cheat code in starcraft 1 and broodwars. @16:02 Great reference lol @20:58 I was streaming this, and I legit started crying at this part when it happened. @34:05 I love how hyped you get. Your videos makes me fall in love for Starcraft all over again lol @40:50, the world of shakuras, was the home world of the dark templar. Where Zeratul was originally from. Yes! You guys made it! Artanis is the best of the Protoss. He fights with the honor of the Khalai, the cunning of the Nerazim (Dark Templar), and the ferocity of the Tal’Darim. Excited for you guys to see how this story culminates :) Fun fact: in the cutscene with the pylon warping in to reinforce the lone zealot, it’s the exact same time as a pylon warp in- in game: 30 seconds.
the main characters as in Kerrigan Raynor and Artanis are all just fantastic i really do hope starcraft continues to see them again its been a long time and no announcements in sight yet but we can always hope
Well, the Microsoft just bought Blizzard a couple of days ago. And when they bought Minecraft, they did a fantastically good job at keeping this game popular and updated for, like, a full decade, so in other words if there is a good time to be hopefull about the future of the Starcraft universe, it's right upon us ;)
its unlikely starcraft team was disbanded and fire 2 years back as they decided to no longer make strategy games for kerrigan and raynor .... their story is wrapped up you could in theory build on kerrigan ... but raynor potential is dried up and he got his happy ending
@@alanea5860 i know it looks bleak and i just finished my 11th playthru of the campaign back to back and yes the story is ended but let a poor man hope over here man
Blizzard already made an official statement that the Starcraft franchise and story is over with Legacy of the void. THere is little to 0 chances that the story will continue. I think it's better this way, look what they did with WoW lore and how many people got dissapointed by how the story turned.
Legacy of the Void might not be my favorite StarCraft story, but it features two of my favorite characters ever. One you haven't quite met yet, but Fenix's story is one I adore. As explained, this is an AI replication of Fenix that is unaware of the fact, and the old Fenix was one you interacted with in StarCraft 1 and its expansion, Brood War. In Brood War, you watch Fenix "die" and get brought back later as a dragoon, which is basically a robotic shell that some badly-wounded Templar choose to live the rest of their lives in so they can continue fighting. This new Fenix believes he's in a dragoon shell. One of my favorite lines from Fenix is in Brood War where he's complaining about working with Kerrigan (before her betrayal), and Raynor laughs and tells him he sounds like a tired old man. Fenix replies: "Don't let the fact that I am three hundred and sixty-eight years older than you dull your impression of me, young Raynor. I can still... how do you Terrans say it... "throw down with the best of them!""
I still crack up at Rohanna's lowkey racism lol. "Orifices... MOUTHS..." A pretty important detail from the original StarCraft that wasn't in the recap in the beginning is that Raszagal, Vorazun's mother, was killed by Zeratul because she'd been mind-controlled by Kerrigan as part of one of her many schemes when she was still under Amon's influence. It's why Zeratul was an outcast for the longest time even amongst Dark Templar after everything he's done to help Tassadar destroy the Overmind.
just caught up on the whole playlist here of Starcraft Reactions. Why was i not notified of this earlier D: well i guess its cuz i didnt have the notification bell checked. it is now. So happy to see you guys reacting to this game! love your comments as well lol. Kerrigans butt has all the swagger of Raynor's space cowboy-ness XD love the story so much though. I grew up on the first game and played the games as they came out as well. So its great to see you enjoying it as well :)
Glad you caught these reactions! Just posted part 5 😀 We’ve definitely been enjoying the characters and story so far. We know it’s not a super comprehensive journey, but we still quite liked it 🥳🥳
Hey glad you are having fun with this although important parts are missing sadly. And yeah Zeratul is an absolute boss, playing the games made him absolutly one of my favourit charakters in gaming. Many charakters have quite the personal growth during the games which makes them so likeable and enjoyable. I am hyped to see the last part and your reaction to it :)
Loved your reactions to this one, and how Bethany always have to point out a good ass when she sees one 😄 I'll mention a bit of background history that won't really be brought up in the cutscenes, but that's also important to note the full story; - To start off, the reason why Artanis was so hostile towards Kerrigan is because of events that happened in the first game, Starcraft 1 and its expansion, Brood War. When an UED fleet from Earth came to the sector, Kerrigan tricked the protoss into allying with her, making them believe that the evil and corrupt Kerrigan died with the Overmind. After they had done their part, she betrayed both of them, crippling the Terran Dominion led by Mengsk and killing Fenix and his protoss party. It's also at this point that Raynor promised Kerrigan that he'd be the one to kill her, as Fenix and he were good friends. After that, she needed Zeratul's help, so she abducted the leader of the dark templar, Raszagal, forcing him into helping her. When he had done his part, it was revealed that Kerrigan had been controlling Raszagal for quite a while, forcing Zeratul to kill her in order to free her of Kerrigan's influence. This is also why Matriach Vorazun hates Zeratul, as he was the reason for her mother's death. tl;dr: Kerrigan tricked the protoss once, before betraying them, killing Fenix and his forces. She then forced Zeratul into helping her by kidnapping the dark templar leader, indirectly forcing him to kill her. Not exactly the best way to make friends. - Amon had been a huge part of the history of the zerg and protoss since the beginning. To create a Xel'naga, two beings, one of Purity of Essence (the capability of great biological change) and one of Purity of Form (the ability for a race to have great psionic potential, and thus allowing them to house the power of the Xel'naga.) Amon was part of the current generation of Xel'naga, and felt that he had been lied to, and that the transformation (despite willingly accepting it) was forced upon it. Thus his quest for ending the "Infinite Cycle" (the cycle of rebirth of new Xel'naga) had begun. He and his followers first discovered the protoss and found great psionic potential in them. Amon broke the rule of the Xel'naga by directly interfering in the evolution of the race, gifting them with purity of form, granting them immense psionic powers. However, the protoss unnatural evolution eventually led to divisions in the protoss, resulting in a massive Civil War, and Amon and his followers were forced to flee the planet. He then traveled to the home-world of the zerg. Here, he uplifted them the same way as the protoss, granting them purity of essence. However, to avoid repeating the same mistakes as with the protoss, he bound them to the will of a hive mind, creating the Overmind, whose main directive was to destroy and assimilate the protoss, as part of his plans to forge the hybrid. The hybrid is basically just the merged form of the zerg and protoss, and what they call a "fake xel'naga" (which was also what Kerrigan and Artanis fought in this video). They're considered "fake" because the Xel'naga may not interfere with the evolution of any race, which is exactly what Amon did. The two races have to evolve and eventually merge naturally, on their own. tl;dr: Amon wants to stop the other Xel'naga, and create his own version of them. He uplifts the protoss and the zerg, "corrupting" them in the process. He then uses the same powers that he gave them, to forcibly merge the two races into the hybrid, the "fake Xel'naga" in order to rule all existence. I really tried to make it as short as possible, but without making it sound like a 5 year old wrote it. However, I failed in my mission, so if it drags out too much, feel free to just read the tl;dr.😅 The story in this game is incredibly significant for the entirety of the Starcraft franchise, as it answers so many questions that the previous games brought up, like who exactly are the Xel'naga, and where are they? What is their purpose with everything? It was great to finally get to see an actual Xel'naga, and learn what their whole stick was. Also, Artanis being one of my favourite characters in the franchise just made it even better ^^
Didn't sound like a 5 year old at all 😜 Appreciate giving us more context to all of this. We will try to retain as much of it as possible as we go into our final part for Legacy of the Void 😀
Fan facts with Graf: Arthanis defaults psyonic blades are blue. But since the battle in Shakuras temple he use one blue and one green blade. The green one is a Zeratul's, Arthanis looted it from his in the begining of this story.
These are all aspects in game, the ultralisk meant the high Templar merged to form an archon for example, all real units in game. Hell the pylon even took 90 seconds to warp in during the cinematic which it takes in actual gameplay!
so from western, to samurai, to lovecraft... really love that about sc2's campaign theme switches :) also they don't say it but Artanis is the player character in the first Starcraft Protoss missions
There are some games we feel like we might not enjoy the gameplay as much which is why we choose the story method. Also, there are just too many games we want to play and not enough time. Plus new ones coming out all the time so it's tough to keep up 😅
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames ooh and the whole deal with the Protoss was their galactic empire was run by a group called the Conclave, which was like a strict quasi-religious group and it was their arrogance that led their people to a path where their best ones die (i.e Fenix, and Tassadar) and made others go out and find their own path (Dark Templar were the heretics), in the first Starcraft Protoss missions, you start out as one of the commanders for that group (also best bros with Fenix) who then found Tassadar, Zeratul (and Raynor too!) coming up with a plan to break the Zerg infestation of your homeworld but at the same time had to avoid persecution from your own people after accusations of heresy... and then yeah that young Protoss commander turned out to be Artanis (which is also why he's a sweet guy like that) :)
The build up to seeing/fighting the Protoss in the original game was incredible. Zerg are my favorite, but the aesthetic of the Protoss is what got me into Starcraft in the beginning. I saw a friend playing starcraft and the Photon Cannon itself made me go "I want to know more about this"

Thank you so much for your reactions, especially Star Craft. I played this game in the 90s, waited so much for the continuation of this story. Seeing you react (I did watch your reaction to Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm reaction), and your genuine reaction just to the story, make me appreciate both of you more.. Because I know that you are both story driven individuals. I just wished you could have played the game because, many just like me, you would really understand and appreciate the story if you would have played the game, from start to end. this Legacy of the Void video still missing the short video Reclamation part - The conversation between Heirarch Artanis and Akhundelar Zealot Kaldalis. Love your reactions!!!
Fun lore: Usually when an archon is formed they are doomed to die, but there was one Protoss who could sustain himself by consuming other Protoss. He was Urezaj, a Dark Archon formed from 7 Dark Templars (making him the strongest Dark Archon in existence), with him being the dominant personality. His rage was so strong that all future Dark Archon can feel his rage even after he is destroyed (and when i say destroyed, i mean sealed, because he was too overpowered) Also trivia: While an Archon cherish their final moment, Dark Archons are absolutely terrified of the oblivion that's coming to them, you even hear them begging Adun to protect them in one of their voice lines in SC1.
One of the things left out at the beginning - the battle against the Overmind was fought by the Templar, Dark Templar, and Raynor's Raiders. Humans and Protoss united to kill the Overmind and evacuate Auir. Raynor is friends with Artanis, Zeratul, and some of the Protoss that died in the Brood Wars.
I don't know if you already knew but Samir Duran or rather Narud was a shapeshifter who posed as a Terran scientist. (He was the one in the Heart of the Swarm cutscenes that Kerrigan fought against. First he took the apperance of Raynor then as Terran Kerrigan)
You shall watch the cinematic "reclamation" who take place just before Aiur invasion, at the beginning of LOTV. It bring some clues about protoss history and some characters and event you were confuse about.
Starcraft 2 sort of expects you to know Starcraft 1's story in order to get the full digest of what happens. Additionally as we've established a lot of the lore is missed during the missions. I'll explain a bit of what happens between several of these scenes and what I know of other lore from SC1 and the books to fill in some blanks and put more gravity to the statements given by the characters. The first thing I want to point out is actually from Heart of the Swarm. How Arcturus Mengsk found Valerian, Raynor, Matt and Kerrigan on Umoja. It's simple, Tychus was not the only agent Mengsk had on Raynor's ship. Arcturus' second spy gave the location of Kerrigan to Arcturus and thats what lead to Raynor being captured and set Kerrigan on her path to become the Heart of the Swarm again. Zeratul's prophecy around the 10-11 minute mark, you get 2 cutscenes back to back. Between them are three campaign missions featuring a character called Talis. "Through great sacrifice the prophecy has been fully realized" Zeratul says because Talis sacrificed herself to hold the line and let Zeratul escape safely with the prophecy. Next we have the invasion of Aiur. It actually starts smoothly, the Protoss get surprised by Amon controlling the supposedly feral Zerg on char, and having lots of Hybrid on the planet. The corruption of the Khala is not an instantaneous on-switch, it takes some time to set up and start, so that is why Zeratul and Artanis discuss their plans after the invasion. However shortly after that, Zeratul finds his unique spacecraft, the Voidseeker (a Xel'Naga starship) destroyed and seeks out others to aid him in getting off-world, eventually finding himself in Artanis' presence. Throughout this mission we've been fighting Zerg only but we come across a protoss base that turns hostile and weave through corrupted and uncorrupted protoss fighting one another as the madness begins to grip through them all. Zeratul giving his life to liberate Artanis shows true dedication to the idealism Zeratul holds so much faith in, for he believes Artanis is integral to the continued survival of the Protoss and the universe as we know it, so much that he willingly gives his life to ensure Artanis' freedom. Now, a bit about the Khala. As Artanis states in the opening cinematic with the probe and all that cool stuff happening, the Khala is "the sacred union of our every thought and emotion". In short, the protoss are kind of similar to the Zerg, they are a "hivemind". But one where individuality still exist. Just, not really a life of privacy, as any protoss in any city on your planet can hear your thoughts if they concentrate. Because of this, crime is virtually nonexistent, and protoss are a highly stratified society where even if you're not born with any skill, you'll be able to fulfill the role of your caste by observing the thoughts and memories of your peers. However, the Khala, and a LOT of Protoss technology, was gifts from the "Xel'Naga". Coming to the ancient protoss, Amon and his followers descended on Aiur and pretended to be gods. All protoss myths and legends come from this. However, the protoss were abandoned by the supposed Xel'Naga which lead to a ridiculously massive global civil war, every tribe up against every other tribe. Many many protoss died until one single protoss called Khas managed to enter the ancient Xel'Naga temple and (re)activate the Khala after which he would go about uniting all protoss into this union. Some tribes took offense to this union, forming non-Khalai tribes such as the Tal'Darim. Others cut their nervecords and hid among the population. Those would become the Nerazhim. Eventually the Conclave, the rulers of the protoss, learnt of the Nerazhim and wanted them dead, but Adun took mercy upon them and let the Nerazhim flee to Shakuras, but this cost Adun his own life. Anyway, the Khala has been with the Protoss for over ten thousand years, it's estimated that the Zerg spent 13k years travelling from their homeworld Zerus to the Koprulu Sector after Amon fucked around and made the Overmind there, and the Khala was activated sometime very early on in that timeframe. Protoss are long-lived creatures but even to them the ancient protoss and the Xel'Naga are myths and legends. Losing the Khala for protoss who have lived with it all their lives is like losing a part of their own body. Phantom limb doesn't even begin to describe it. Bonus fact: As described by Chris Metzen at one of the Blizzcon events, I cant remember which one, the protoss nerve cords are sensitive. Cutting it like the Nerazhim do, or the Daelaam need to is like ripping out fingernails, it's ridiculously painful. Makes you glad most of the protoss get them removed while in stasis so they dont have to feel that agony and gives a greater appreciation for the Nerazhim who do this ritualistically at a young age. Also, the four protoss factions we'll encounter throughout this venture are: The Daelaam, what remains of the "Khala" protoss. The Nerazhim, also known as the Dark Templar. The Tal'Darim, servants of Amon. The Purifiers, protoss AIs, copies of powerful warriors from their history replicated in near perfect fashion. In the past, before the Overmind attacked Aiur, the Daelaam were not called that but they were just known as Protoss to each other, not really knowing about the other factions. But they did have a caste society, Judicators (Rulers), Templars (Soldiers) and Khalai (Workers). This caste system still is in effect today in some form. Kharax for example is a Khalai and he has no combat skills to speak of. But the Judicator caste has been all but eradicated through a civil war that happened shortly after Starcraft 1, during the Brood War expansion. Aldaris, leader of the Judicators, opposed the alliance with the Nerazhim, specifically because of Raszhagal, mother of Vorazun who you heard about. He did not approve of her, specifically he did not like that Raszhagal was willing to cooperate with Kerrigan. Nobody knew at the time of course, but Raszhagal was under Kerrigans parasitic mind control, effectively being a slave to Kerrigan's whims. This is why Zeratul killed Raszhagal in the end, though she was Zeratul's mentor and a mother figure, because it was either that or give Kerrigan a pretty big trump card in the now-broken protoss society. She had to die so the Protoss could return to strength. Other pieces of information... During Kerrigan and Artanis' venture through Ulnar, we learn something peculiar about Protoss which explains why Protoss are so hardcore about Fate. When Protoss look at an object, they dont only see the object itself. They see the method of construction and know the "identity" of all atoms placed down. If the object was constructed on an atomic level, there can be a secret message in the way those atoms are arranged and Protoss can read these messages, which is how Zeratul and Artanis are able to read the Xel'Naga prophecies. This is part of the Protoss' genetic legacy, as he speaks of "two races, one with purity of essence and one with purity of form". In heart of the swarm we learn a lot about Essence, and how Zerg are able to manipulate this better than almost anyone. Only one creature is more impressively made than Kerrigan, the ultimate Zerg creature. That's Alexei Stukov, who was built by Narud who is a servant of the Dark God Amon. As such, he must know methods that put the Xel'Naga to shame, indeed making him a master of essence manipulation similar to the Zerg. Protoss however are about Purity of Form, where things are always constructed with purpose, even if it looks lavishly overdone and unnecessary. A lot of people hate how protoss are so gaudy and unnecessary, but 1) their minds are alien and 2) for them the design choices are necessary for whatever purpose they are looking at. I find it funny how people can complain that protoss are not alien enough and at the same time claim they dont like thatthe protoss dont think as practically as humans do. Wanting to have their cake and eat it too, I suppose. We're almost at the end, it's been quite the journey so far. Excited to see your reactions to the end ^_^
Thanks for sticking with us on this journey and helping fill in the gaps of stuff that we missed. That would be pretty wild to look at an object and see it at an atomic level 🤯 Not Sure I'd want that ability if I could have it
Awesome reaction again guys! Really love your videos. You may also want to consider making a starcraft 1 story reaction someday to help fill in the holes in rhe story. It may be a little dated in terms of graphics, but if you'd like to get more into it, that is something I would recommend. Again, great series and love the work you both do! 😊
So regarding to Vorazun (leader of Dark Templar - Nerazim ;>) and her mother Raszagal. Raszagal was previous Matriarch of Dark Templar during Brood War. Unfortunately she fell under influence of Kerrigan and became her puppet. Kerrigan needed her to control Zeratul through her and Dark Templar through him. At that time Dark Templar were the only force known to be able to kill Overmind. And during course of Brood War remaining Cerebrates (Zerg commanders created to lead each Zerg Brood) decided to fuse together (with exception of 1 controlled by Kerrigan) to recreate Overmind on Char. As that Overmind was young and still developing, the UED forces (United Earth Directorate - something that I think Blizzard decided to retcon a little, because they're rarely mentioned during recaps of Brood War) were able to take control of it with some neurotoxins, PSI Emitter technology and help of Samir Duran (known also as Dr. Narud). As Overmind was maturing, its power grew too and UED was able to take more and more control over Zerg through it. So Kerrigan had to kill it before she could take full control over the Zerg. Kerrigan's mission succeeded. But just after Overmind's death Zeratul abducted Raszagal. Kerrigan, who didn't want to lose this precious puppet, chased after him. With overwhelming forces of Zerg Swarm it wasn't hard for Sarah to surround Zeratul and his forces. And just before she cought them Zeratul killed Raszagal with her blessing, because it was better to die than to live as Kerrigan's puppet. In her cruelty Sarah decided to spare Zertul's life, so he would live with his shame. Fact that Raszagal was Kerrigan's puppet wasn't known to other Protoss, so Zeratul was declared traitor. During his exile Zeratul noticed some strange signals from some Terran research facility, where he discovered statis cells containg ongoing works about creating successful Zerg/Protoss hybrid. And last of those statis cells contained one such specimen. Zeratul destroyed this lab and hybrid only to meet Samir Duran, who revealed that there were thousands more such facilities scattered through the sector and that Zeratul would never find them all. Which then lead Zeratul to his quest for Xel'naga prophecy. At that time Duran also revealed that he wore many faces and names through millenia. A secret we had to wait 12 years to know more about... Also tl;dr regarding to Samir Duran: 1. We get to know him in 2nd campaign of Brood War, which is Terran campaign (episode V of SC1). 2. He joined UED forces just at the beginning of their invasion into Terran Dominium space. Presented himself as ex-Confederate commander. 3. He helped UED take over control of new Overmind. 4. Just after that he supposedly killed Alexei Stukov, one of UED commanders, who started to have some suspicions regarding to Duran. 5. At the start of Zerg campaign of BW (episode VI), it's revealed he's part of Zerg Swarm now under Kerrigan and he's infested. 6. He helps Kerrigan to get back control over Swarm. 7. Near end of campaign he disappears, but it doesn't really matter for Kerrigan as she just achieved her goals. 8. It's revelaed in that mission with Zeratul that he's not really human but something else. 9. Sometime after his supposed killing of Stukov it's revelead that he took Stukov's body to experiment on it and to create half-human half-Zerg, who we meet in Heart of the Swarm. 10. He returns in Wings of Liberty as Dr. Narud. Also that story about Xel'Naga near 57:00 - that was completely changed between what we got in SC1 and through whole of SC2. Bonus fun fact: Artanis after Brood War was known to some parts of community as Cringetanis, because of how his lines were written :D P.S There was nothing here, my memory did trick on me ;>
You ask where Kerrigan queen of blades was during the early events of legacy of the void? Three things Growing back up her swarms numbers, searching for Amon , and third but far from least attempting psychically to stop Amon from wrestling away Zerg from her swarm. ( While that was all probably happening Arbiter was probably searching for new evolutionary adaptations for Kerrigan's swarm. That is if Arbiter managed to not be taken by Amon I think he didn't)
I feel it's worth noting that the phrase that the Protoss commonly say, "En Taro" means honor to, and is then finished with a hero of the Protoss, like Tassadar.
Man, seeing Fenix this way always hits me heavily in the feels lol. He was one of my favorite characters in the original Starcraft, and his loss to Kerrigan's betrayal hit me pretty hard lol. I feel a lot like Artanis does about it, honestly lol...like I KNOW it's not Fenix, but man I want to just have him back lol. He's just such a beast lol. True honorable warrior to the core, the entirety of his being is dedicated to his people and his integrity is just unshakable. The type to face down a dire situation, laugh in the face of death, and revel in the glory of a noble warrior's demise earned through a lifetime of service to his people (and Protoss lifetimes are pretty heckin' long lol). I'm glad we got SOME kind of way to more or less have him back, but it kinda opens the old wound of his loss a little more freshly lol. Also, the idea of the leader of the entire Protoss race being a Dark Templar is kind of a big deal. Protoss history is a pretty long story lol, as you might expect (if you want that story, just ask me lol. I had a huge paragraph written before I decided to ask first if you wanted to read it all lol), but suffice it to say that the Dark Templar have been exiled from the main body of the Protoss civilization for a VERY long time and were hunted/persecuted without mercy for quite a while. To have the leader of the entirety of the species be someone counted among the numbers of a group of people long hated and labeled as heretics...well, that carries some weight. I think Tassadar was the first among the Templar to choose the way of the Dark Templar and unify the two types of energies, and Artanis is still quite the taboo-breaker for what he's done to accept the Dark Templar not just as equals, but to become one himself. So yeah. I connect a lot to the Protoss, I just find their design and culture fascinating. Like I said, if you want a history course...I'd be happy to oblige lol. I think a decent chunk of the highlights will be covered in Reclamation, though...so after you see that, I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys may have. :)
Sounds good! We always like being filled in more with some backstory, but if Reclamation covers some of those parts it's also fun to see what we can pick up on (and what we get totally wrong haha) 😊
It's really unfortunate how his original demise at Antioch seemed to boil down to "Ooh weird my laser swords went out randomly". But Fenix is still one of my favorite from the original game too. His voice actor was probably the best (Tassadar's was also amazing), and seeing him on the battlefield again as a dragoon was a super hype moment.
Artanis is the last surviving Protoss from the first game also @9:10 the big one is called a Ultralisk and they weigh about 10,000 tonnes but there are bigger subspecies Zeratul is hated by his for the loss of Aiur, not supporting Artanis in his mission to reclaim Aiur and killing the Matriarch of Nerzim(dark templar)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames To clarify when they become the Archon - big Glowy boi- they die soon after no matter what. Sort of burning all their potential at once. Another thing that's interesting is the unit's in game you can use to make it are two High Templar - generally, they shoot psychic lightning like Artanis and he used to be one - but you can also use Dark Templar - one's who pass the Shadow Walk like they talked about and through their severed nerve cords are much more open and sensitive to the Void (they are Jedi), or you can use one of each. This is one of the early precedents for what Tassadar, the badass who killed the Zerg Hivemind did by drawing on the psionic potental of the Khala and the Void Energy used by the Dark Templar (like Zeratul to send visions, or see the future, or teleport). This is finally echoed perfectly in Artanis, because like his old master he unites them, wearing Zeratul's gauntlet along with his psionic blade. It's worth mentioning because it requires a completely different skillset to use, so to use it he had to be studying the ways of the Nerazim like he said. Blizzard when on their game has some of the best storytelling, and the quest to reunite the Daelaam is one of the best examples. It's got some of the best circular storytelling and every beat, scene and chapter has some greater resonance with other parts of the story.
legacy of the void definitely can be hard too understand the first time you watch it. but i feel like you guys do a great job !!! cant wait till next monday :)
I love watching yall react to these Starcraft cutscenes. When you do the D2 stuff, there's like a 4hr video that's just 8 years worth of cutscenes, probably too long but could make multiple vids for multiple weeks if you were willing to do it!
It's important to note that before the cutscene with Artanis and Kerrigan, the last time Artanis had heard of her, she was murdering Fenix and mind-controlling Raszagal (which is why Zeratul had to kill her), after she had pretended to be their ally. He knows nothing of her recent changes, he only knows her as a treacherous murderer who almost destroyed his species. The fact he even considered helping her probably only even entered his head because of seeing her on the prophecy.
Phenix, the Purifier, was an attempt at namo necromancy. He's personality and memories were digitized and uploaded to this new body. Well, MOST of his memories.
i dont know if that was already commented or if you noticed, but artanis has 2 different colours of warp-blades, the green one was zeratul's , he took it after zeratul died as a reminder for his old friend and used it until the end of the war
Man this is so fun watching others react to the stories this game tells. I don't know whether I expected it to be in two parts or not though it is a long one so I can understand splitting it into two parts. I will admit, when I played the game, I liked Zeratul, he just felt like a good, wise, and noble character who just wanted to do what was right. When he died, I legit felt sad that he was gone. He just felt like a character worth watching and being with. I am glad you both are enjoying Legacy of the Void so far and I can not wait for the second part! I am curious to see what you both think of the ending. En Taro Zeratul
First vid we had only was an hour so not sure how that video worked because there is so much simply from the cinematics and cutscenes in this game. Glad we found the two hour version. We were given a three and a half hour vid link, but just didn't have the time to commit to that 🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames and that is understandable. Though it is an awesome story to follow, I know you guys have a lot of other vids planned for the week and for future vids. Definitely glad you guys found the 2 hour version so the story was better understood and clear!
Leaving out the in-game stuff really hurts the story. LotV is by far the worst expansion but still amazing. Talis sacrificing herself to me has always just been such a powerful scene. Shame to not get that bit of the story. Just the way she screams “For Aiur!” shakes your very core
Ah Zeratul, one of my personal all time favorite characters, when i first played the game, the mission right before that cutscene... i had a bad feeling/omen, and then when when he said "My Life for Aiur" (something protoss zealots say when you train them in the game) i let out a little *gasp "no!"* and then BAM *tears* to see such an amazing character that was with us from the very first game... oh it made me hate Amon lol. There are, again as mentioned, some tiny bits that add to the story and characters that were skipped (again understandable) such as Raynor asking where Zeratul is and Artanis telling him that he fell on Aiur. There are more dialogue options with Fenix (hopefully you'll see the more important ones in part 2) and others etc etc, but overall good video, looking forward to the next one :)
A bit late but it seems you didn't know and notice it. When Artanis requested to shake Raynor's hand, it was a double entendre. Sure he wanted to give respect and declare his friendship to Raynor, but Artanis offered his hand that was wearing Zeratul's psionic blade. Raynor and Zeratul were great friends all around Starcraft. Artanis offered a last goodbye between two known friends.
Wings of Liberty: Zeratul is who told Raynor to save Kerrigan and he did. Heart of The Swarm: Zeratul is who told Kerrigan of Zerus and how the primal Zerg are key to defeating Amon by assimilating with their essence and she did. Legacy of The Void: Zeratul proved to Artanis that The Khala is corrupt and died to do so. Zeratul sacrificed everything for a fighting chance against Amon. He's why Kerrigan is alive, by proxy why Mengsk is dead, and how everyone knows Amon is coming. Having been a Starcraft fan since 1998, his death left me super sad. He was such an amazing character. Edit: I also love how Artanis takes Zeratul's psi blade as a memento to his fallen friend. He also intentionally showed Raynor that he was wielding it during their handshake. Zeratul, Artanis, and Raynor were a closely knit trio of comrades.
Well, you two better get ready because you still haven't met everyone's favorite attitude king: ALARAK. Also, you are so right on with all the A names by Blizzard. Just off my head I can say Arcturus Mengsk, Auir, Amon, Artanis, Alarak, Anduin, Alexstrasza, Abathur, Argus, Antoran Wastes, Auberdine, An'she (sun god from WoW), Arthas, Anub'arak, Azeroth, Archimonde, Adria, Auriel, and way more across all the games.
19:40 hear that? That's the sound of millions of fans crying again. En Taro Zeratul. 1:05:33 hearing you say you aren't as attached to zerg reminded me of Bricky's take on the tyranids and that its hard to have story around a hivemind of genocidal monsters. 1:06:36 Now hear me out on this one because in Kerrigan's defence zerg pop out like weeds, you kill one and before you know it 10 more just got birthed so losing i don't know a few million on entry isnt really much. If you want know more about fenix (Off brand vader) gotta learn up on some starcraft 1 and as for vorazun i don't think she appears much even in starcraft 1? She might only get mentioned or at the very least have a scene but my memory of starcraft 1 isn't good so maybe I'm wrong. Great reactions as always and cant wait for you both to see how this amazing trilogy comes to an end and what happens with Jimmy and Sarah, do they get together or do they not? Gonna have to find out yourselves :)
Yeah we get that the Zerg lifestyle is different 🤗 Just found it interesting which parts of Kerrigan are Zerg and which parts of her humanity she has kept (she was okay killing her Zerg but saved innocent humans)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Also forgot to put this on my previous comment at 33:35 Jim turns over artanis' hand and see's that he's wearing zeratul's psi blade
Moar!Moar!Moar!!! :D Edit: You missed "Reclamation". It's a pre-quel to the "Invasion of Aiur" which is the start of this entire thing. Lots of feels in that one. My Life For Aiur!
Yeah we didn't know about that one until after we watched this. Would've hoped it had been included but sadly it was not. We heard it's still worth checking out before next one though 🤗
Also, another fun part of Blizzard games, if no one has shared this yet, is that the little units each have over 10 phrases they cycle through when clicked on. Hilariously, after the first three (3) randomly stated phrases, the units automatically switch over to a Fun, often satirical set of phrased. I am sure someone has gone through each. This apples to both Warcraft and Starcraft units. So, you can always add that to your Blizzard watch list.
It's worth noting that the Protoss have three castes Judicators(Leadership caste) Templar(Warrior caste) Khalai (Worker caste). Artanis might be a good leader but the reason he second guesses everything is because he is a Templar he spent almost his entire life learning to fight, not lead. However after the events of the Brood Wars the last of the Judicators was killed so leadership fell to the highest ranking member of the Templar caste. Basic Artanis has no idea what he's doing and is just trying to do his best. If you want an example of the other castes Karax would Khalai caste and I could name a Judicator but it wouldn't be anyone you know, again all dead. Knowledge of the Protoss caste system comes into play in a later cinematic in Legacy of the Void
With the horror movie crossover trailers it shows pictures of the characters of the stuff they're from for example if it was chucky vs freddy Krueger they would show pictures of chucky from the chucky films and pictures of Freddy Krueger from a nightmare on elm street films however some have posters and are super awesome so hopefully you guys will enjoy it either way
Also as you two may have not noticed as I don't think even in game it is drawn attention to. He changes to having one green and one blue psi-blade. Because he removed one of his own and replaced it with zeratuls as a sign of respect.
37:09 Ah, let the Karax x Solarite memes begin. This did a good job at explaining the story. Bit of missed history. Zeratul killed the dark templar's matriarch, because her mind was broken by Kerrigan back in broodwar. The dark Templar have a long history before the games. Basically when the protoss first came to be, they had a connection and could communicate psychically. However, individuality broke that connection and created conflict. Each faction fighting for the betterment of their own and no one else. They fought wars and used machines of terrible destruction. Then came a guy. I forget the name. He forged ahead and restored their natural bond. To walk in each others shoes and feel each other's emotions. He forged peace and brought unity to the war-torn race. However, there were those who disagreed. They did not want to become part of a collective, and share experiences, to lose themselves in the group. Those cut their cords that allowed them to connect and severed themselves from the psychic link forever. The Auir Templars pitied them as they were now alone forever in darkness without the light of the Khala. Thus they came to be known as dark templar, forever banished to the shadow, never to be able to see the light of the Khala and benefit from the shared experience of millions.
SO, on your comment about leaders being willing to do the things that they send people out to do. Kerrigan leads the charge in almost every single mission of Heart of the swarm. they're are only 3 missions in heart of the swarm where you don't control kerrigan (1 being a tutorial on how to play zerg, and another one being a terran mission)
rashagal the mother of vorazun was possesed by kerrigan back in SC 1. zeratul had no other choise but to kill her, after finding out that was no way back for her. thats why vorazun hates zeratul. but she dosnt know zeratul had no choise.
Don't worry next time you'll meet a new character who has the greatest A-Name Ever! Though I might be biased because said character is also voiced by John De Lancie so he just sounds epic all the time. Artanis may have pondered finishing Kerrigan off before going after the Hybrid, but keep in mind the last time he saw and interacted with Kerrigan she had betrayed him, Raynor, Zeratul and become the literal self titled 'Queen Bitch of the Universe' (No really Kerrigan herself titled herself that.). So he's seen her do the song and dance before of "Oh i'm your friend not your enemy!" Hence he was rather skeptical before deciding it was better to ally with her and figure out what was going on.
I actually do like Kerrigan's redemption story from SC2 - but I'll always love the massively bold move they took in the first game and expansion to basically say "Here, you play as the 'villain', and the villain wins". The ending scene to Brood War is one of my favorite moments in video game storytelling.
We watched this before posting our Heart of the Swarm reaction so didn't get to Reclamation. We plan on watching that before our second half of Legacy of the Void as we were told it is still relevant knowledge to have. Thanks everyone! 🥳🥳
Can you please react to all Apex Legends finishers
Until next time skipy, darling, templar
XD
yeah, if you watched that short video between the summary and the trailer of Legacy of the Void, this could be perfection :3
@@Ilija-kc3zq Apex finishers are zZzZz
I've been a Starcraft fanboy for over 20 years, I love your reactions guys. Thanks for the upload.
Seeing Artanis use Zeratul's blade as his second blade instead of his own is always such a wonderful thing to see.
🥲🤩
Absolutely true, and having Zeratul greet Artanis is such a respectful way always gets me.
😢🥲☺️
It’s unfortunate that the Zerg campaign didn’t show much of the other smaller conversations which helped to flesh out the characters a bit, but they were not related to the story at all so I can see why they were cut. Also a lot of in-game cutscenes which helped to do this as well.
Rip, you may never know the greatness that is Abathur and his quest to cure the Zerg of their lemon allergy
I love the idea of them having no clue what the context is to this comment XD
The Raynor and Fenix bromance was very cool, when Kerrigan killed him that was the moment that Jim told her that he will kill her someday
its in the wings of liberty or 1st starcraft?
@@notitle1132 Brood war, the expansion of the first
Yes, and hence why in HotS, Fenix was the first name Raynor threw at Kerrigan's face
19:43 "my life...for Aiur..." God... After all this years still hurts zeratul's death... A real Hero for the protoss, and a awesome character.
33:33 best moment ever...
I love StarCraft history
Yeah, that moment at 19:43... seeing that for the first time, especially growing up with StarCraft and being mainly a Protoss player, that moment hut.
😊😎🤟
Yeah, also very sad Raynor had long history whit Zeratul, Tassadar and Artamis. Seeing Artamis whit Zeratuls handguard,...
Seeing Zeratul die is still one of the saddest things in Starcraft.
I never was a Protoss fan but his "My life for Aiur" line is bringing the chills
he had to die
everyone loved him and they wanted artanis to become major protoss character :D
artanis/ tassadar duo was actually meant to shinein first game with tassadar dying at end
but somehow everyone fell in love with zerathul and ignored rest
I knew something was gonna happen to Zeratul back in Hots. So sad, he still lives forever in our hearts tho.
Tassadar bro..
It always breaks my heart later on, when playing as Artanis, to hear him yell out "En taro Zeratul!"
My dad used to play the first Starcraft a lot late at night after work when I was really young I’d always see him filled with various of emotions when playing the game and I’d watch him play over and over again for hours not understanding anything but he’d try his best to explain the game to me then my mom would always come out of the bedroom to yell at both of us to go to sleep 😂 now it’s my era to play Starcraft 2 and I’m super happy to finally understand what my dad went through and nowww I’m watching you guys reacting to this it and it’s reminding me of the fond memories I’d experience
Thank you and looking forward to many more of your guys’s reactions!
Thanks for sharing that story with us. It seems that Starcraft is in your blood 😊🤗🥳
Narazim means "dark templar"
One of the 4 factions of protoss.
There's also:
-Templar/"firstborn" (Artanis)
-Purifiers (Robots)
-Taldarim (worshippers of amon)
FYI... "Alarak" is a taldarim
Everybody loves him.
Khalai is also how you call Artanis' faction.
It couldn't possibly be in part because he's voiced by that bastard Q, could it? OR that A*hole Colonel from Stargate? The guy you love to hate.
You're not wrong, Alarak do be one of those characters meant to love and hate.
@@matttthewcheng And Discord. ;)
@IdleBigots This feels like something Alarak himself would say.
Ah Probius, the little probe that could. Hooray for divergent personality matrixes!
*gets a good HOTS memory* :(
The little probe that could 🥲
There is actually, a Easter Egg, Regarding him in Coop Commander mode.
And i hope you noticed that Artanis used Zeratuls Blade on his right arm instead of his other blue one. This is also why Raynor gave him this look as they shaked hands and he noticed. :D
But i'm really missing some ingame chatters and the chats with the characters on the ship. You get only tiny bits to understand the characters. And some sequences weren't even there. And sadly the short "Reclamation" was missing too. I hope you will do "Reclamation" as a bonus. :D
Besides that it was a great reaction and i'm really glad and everytime i burst out of joy when people dive in these universes. It's really a pleasure and heartwarming for me.
Reclamation will be in next vid as we didn’t know about it before watching this 😅 and there was actually even a shorter vid of only an hour that claimed to be “all” cutscenes. How is that possible? 😂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
yes that "Reclamation" video is PERFECT just before the starting trailer of legacy of the void. it really should be a part of this video. its awesome!
"You speak of knowledge, Judicator? You speak of experience? I have journeyed the darkness between the most distant stars. I have beheld the birth of negative suns and the entropy of entire realities. In *MY* experience Aldaris, all that you have built here on Aiur is but a fleeting dream; a dream from which you will wake, finding yourselves drowned in a greater nightmare."
-Zeratul, schooling Judicator Aldaris
En Arudin Zeratul!
Entaro Tassadar, Entaro Zeratul ... SC1 story was so epic
Thanks for filling us in on some of the missing details. We are glad that Raynor and Artanis have such respect for one another 😊
Raynor is THE MAN, of course they respect him
There was one deleted mission in SC1 (re-added in SC2 mass recall mod) showing how Tassadar and Raynor met. They actually met on Mar Sara before while fighting off the Zerg. Impressed by Raynor, Tassadar offered his assistance to destroy the hive cluster.
"My life for Auir" still gets me after so many years and fills my eyes with tears. The banished, noble Dark templar, never forgot his homeword!
So... for the sacrifice of "soldiers" differences between Zerg and Protoss.
😎👍🙂
33:35 for context, that was Zeratul’s sword on Artanis’ right arm.
🥲 nice moment
StarCraft cutscenes/movies aren't really very good at telling the story, it all happens in game and the dialogue in StarCraft 1 is amazing with a few truly jaw dropping burns in there. Definitely worth checking out a full game video.
Yeah i second that.
Absolutely, they are the best.
Can't wait for next week!
Lore tips:
At a certain point, most of the Protoss race have connected to the Khala - "a sacred union of all our thoughts and emotions".
The StarCraft story is amazing, and it’s been genuinely fun to watch it with you guys. Thank you for doing these!
I'm always happy to see new people get introduced to the starcraft universe. It's fun to watch people's reactions and hear their thoughts about it. You two seem to be enjoying it and that makes me happy as a starcraft fan.
We are definitely enjoying it and can imagine that playing through it and getting the full experience is even better. 😊🥳
Such great writing and storytelling...why can't modern movies be like this?...Great reactions!
Maybe Microsoft will reboot this with a movie or show 🙂
arriving late at the watch party but hopefully with some interesting Protoss sayings: there are two common salutes/farewells: The "normal" protoss use "En Taro (Name)" meaning "In honor of -"; they used to say En Taro Adun, Adun being a great hero for all protoss factions who did great things to end a millenia long civil war in the ancient protoss past.
We are always late to the party so appreciate the Protoss lingo help 🙂

Blizzard already made an official statement that the Starcraft franchise and story is over with Legacy of the void. THere is little to 0 chances that the story will continue. I think it's better this way, look what they did with WoW lore and how many people got dissapointed by how the story turned.
Yes! Been waiting for this video ever since yalls amazing reaction to the last one!
Next week is the final part 🥳🥳🥳
I'm crying now. Fenix was my favorite Protoss from SC1.
The Zerg campaigns were all ways my favorite but the legacy of the void contains my favorite map/mission Brothers in Arms in all of StarCraft 2.
That's a great line and of course he says it to Raynor 😁
This game is a decade old and the cinematics are still insane!! ❤
I'll never get tired of seeing how you guys react to my favourite cinematics. Especially the Blizzard ones.

I still crack up at Rohanna's lowkey racism lol. "Orifices... MOUTHS..."
A pretty important detail from the original StarCraft that wasn't in the recap in the beginning is that Raszagal, Vorazun's mother, was killed by Zeratul because she'd been mind-controlled by Kerrigan as part of one of her many schemes when she was still under Amon's influence. It's why Zeratul was an outcast for the longest time even amongst Dark Templar after everything he's done to help Tassadar destroy the Overmind.
Thanks for letting us know about that missing detail 😀
Rohanna brilliantly voice by Claudia Christian of Babylon 5 fame
I mean imagine waking up to see a new age of Protoss who are no longer racist to other races, you'd be confused

🥳🥳
Loved your reactions to this one, and how Bethany always have to point out a good ass when she sees one 😄
I'll mention a bit of background history that won't really be brought up in the cutscenes, but that's also important to note the full story;
- To start off, the reason why Artanis was so hostile towards Kerrigan is because of events that happened in the first game, Starcraft 1 and its expansion, Brood War.
To create a Xel'naga, two beings, one of Purity of Essence (the capability of great biological change) and one of Purity of Form (the ability for a race to have great psionic potential, and thus allowing them to house the power of the Xel'naga.)
Amon was part of the current generation of Xel'naga, and felt that he had been lied to, and that the transformation (despite willingly accepting it) was forced upon it.
However, I failed in my mission, so if it drags out too much, feel free to just read the tl;dr.😅
The story in this game is incredibly significant for the entirety of the Starcraft franchise, as it answers so many questions that the previous games brought up, like who exactly are the Xel'naga, and where are they? What is their purpose with everything? It was great to finally get to see an actual Xel'naga, and learn what their whole stick was. Also, Artanis being one of my favourite characters in the franchise just made it even better ^^
Didn't sound like a 5 year old at all 😜 Appreciate giving us more context to all of this. We will try to retain as much of it as possible as we go into our final part for Legacy of the Void 😀
Zeratul's death made me cry a little on first play-through, and then very happy to see Phoenix back (sort of)
🥲🤗
Fan facts with Graf:
Arthanis defaults psyonic blades are blue. But since the battle in Shakuras temple he use one blue and one green blade. The green one is a Zeratul's, Arthanis looted it from his in the begining of this story.
Love the respect to Zeratul 😊
These are all aspects in game, the ultralisk meant the high Templar merged to form an archon for example, all real units in game. Hell the pylon even took 90 seconds to warp in during the cinematic which it takes in actual gameplay!
😎👍🙂
so from western, to samurai, to lovecraft... really love that about sc2's campaign theme switches :)
also they don't say it but Artanis is the player character in the first Starcraft Protoss missions
Great video guys! awesome watching these with you 2.
Glad you’re enjoying them! Just posted Part 5 🥳🥳
protoss are definitely one of the coolest races in all of gaming history
😎🤟
The build up to seeing/fighting the Protoss in the original game was incredible. Zerg are my favorite, but the aesthetic of the Protoss is what got me into Starcraft in the beginning. I saw a friend playing starcraft and the Photon Cannon itself made me go "I want to know more about this"
And to think they started as knock off Eldar only to graduate to full on crystal bois of their own.
Since Warcraft 3 cinematics , Starcraft2 got me the most. Love it. Love you react to it.
Greatings from Germany
Glad you are enjoying our journey with us 🤗🙂🥳
Finally! Been refreshing UA-cam for days to see that alert. Dammn LETS GO
🥳🥳 The next one comes out in a week. We post on Mondays at 10am pst 😊
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Awesone, also if i can make a request , it would be neat to see the Shadow of Mordor , and later Shadow of War cinematics / ingame cinematics reactions, Well written lore from Lord of the Rings!
Thanks for the info, gotta check it when its up! :D
I've been waiting for this one since you started! FOR AIUR!!
😎🤟🥳
Thank you so much for your reactions, especially Star Craft. I played this game in the 90s, waited so much for the continuation of this story.
Seeing you react (I did watch your reaction to Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm reaction), and your genuine reaction just to the story, make me appreciate both of you more.. Because I know that you are both story driven individuals.
I just wished you could have played the game because, many just like me, you would really understand and appreciate the story if you would have played the game, from start to end.
Legacy of the Void was a culmination for us Star Craft gamers, the end of the journey.
Me personally as an starcraft player am up for an StarCraft 3 even without jim or kerrigan. I wonder if Microsoft would be interested in a starcraft 3 now that they own the property.
@@wraithflaire1639 no disrepect, but for me, I'm at peace.. Jim and Kerrigan have their 'ending', as well as Zeratul.. for me, all other storyline from this is just nothing.. I was satisfied with the story and the way it ended for them..
Waiting 2 decades to finish this story, and now, my gamer life is almost complete..
@@marrubin1990 None take. I too had experienced that wait. I am waiting for more StarCraft still even if it doesn't cross my mind for more then 2 minutes at a time for three or so years at a time. My wait is most certainly in vain but that is no skin off my nose.
And we love you loving Starcraft! ;-)
🥰🥰🤗🥳 Lots of love going around 😀

Akhundelar , the tip of the spear :)

The butt 😂 May it forever reign
I'm really glad that yaw like this story, it is really good, and can't wait till next week for part Starcraft 2 Journey part 5
The conclusion next week! 🥳🥳 Well, for now. 🤗
this Legacy of the Void video still missing the short video Reclamation part - The conversation between Heirarch Artanis and Akhundelar Zealot Kaldalis. Love your reactions!!!
Yeah we filmed this before releasing Heart of the Swarm so were unaware of Reclamation. Will need to watch it before the next part 😊
His rage was so strong that all future Dark Archon can feel his rage even after he is destroyed (and when i say destroyed, i mean sealed, because he was too overpowered)
Also trivia: While an Archon cherish their final moment, Dark Archons are absolutely terrified of the oblivion that's coming to them, you even hear them begging Adun to protect them in one of their voice lines in SC1.
Thanks for giving us some fun lore on Urezaj 😀
Didn’t know that. Thanks for letting us know lore about Samir 🙂
You shall watch the cinematic "reclamation" who take place just before Aiur invasion, at the beginning of LOTV. It bring some clues about protoss history and some characters and event you were confuse about.
Plan to watch that before the next half 🙂
Can't wait to see your reaction the final part!
Monday! 🥳🥳🍾🥂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames ıt is monday now :)
protoss main here just waiting for my man alarak to show up. ps: fenix was legendary. he actually was a very good friend of Raynor in SC1.
Also, the four protoss factions we'll encounter throughout this venture are:
The Daelaam, what remains of the "Khala" protoss.
That would be pretty wild to look at an object and see it at an atomic level 🤯 Not Sure I'd want that ability if I could have it
I full on cried when Zeratul died. Growing up playing Starcraft 1, you knew he was an incredible character.
We believe it. Just from briefly seeing him in the cutscenes we checked out he had an impact
Thanks so much, Nick! 😀
Also tl;dr regarding to Samir Duran:
Bonus fun fact: Artanis after Brood War was known to some parts of community as Cringetanis, because of how his lines were written :D
P.S There was nothing here, my memory did trick on me ;>
Honestly the retcon of sc1-2 is the on of the most gentle and accurate, if we will compare it with other huge universes like Warcraft, Star Wars etc
👍
@@grafd7467 overall yes. I think it's mainly because they didn't touch much. Only Xel'Naga stuff and making UED almost non-existent.
Cringetanis 😂 We really like Artanis, but that's funny
You ask where Kerrigan queen of blades was during the early events of legacy of the void? Three things Growing back up her swarms numbers, searching for Amon , and third but far from least attempting psychically to stop Amon from wrestling away Zerg from her swarm. ( While that was all probably happening Arbiter was probably searching for new evolutionary adaptations for Kerrigan's swarm. That is if Arbiter managed to not be taken by Amon I think he didn't)
Thanks for explaining Kerrigan's absence. We were hoping she would come and save Zeratul 😢
I feel it's worth noting that the phrase that the Protoss commonly say, "En Taro" means honor to, and is then finished with a hero of the Protoss, like Tassadar.
Thanks for letting us know what that meant! 😀
Artanis is the last surviving Protoss from the first game
also @9:10 the big one is called a Ultralisk and they weigh about 10,000 tonnes but there are bigger subspecies
Zeratul is hated by his for the loss of Aiur, not supporting Artanis in his mission to reclaim Aiur and killing the Matriarch of Nerzim(dark templar)
At 42:04 is my favorite cutscene.
Before that is a hard mission where you have to lure 1.25 Billion zerg onto the planet.
That's a lot of Zerg! 🤯
We look forward to the conclusion 😀🥳🥳
I love watching yall react to these Starcraft cutscenes. When you do the D2 stuff, there's like a 4hr video that's just 8 years worth of cutscenes, probably too long but could make multiple vids for multiple weeks if you were willing to do it!
Yeah if we don't play D2 on channel then we will probably spread out the longer vid over a month 😇
It is amazing given all that history that he didn't just rage kill her right then 😯
note that there are slight variations in the videos depending on the sequence of planets you go to
Phenix, the Purifier, was an attempt at namo necromancy. He's personality and memories were digitized and uploaded to this new body.
Well, MOST of his memories.
Namo Necromancy sounds both complex and dangerous 😯
i dont know if that was already commented or if you noticed, but artanis has 2 different colours of warp-blades, the green one was zeratul's , he took it after zeratul died as a reminder for his old friend and used it until the end of the war
We noticed the two blades but didn’t know why until the community pointed it out 😀
The starcraft story is soo epic love it!🥰👏
Keep it up guys!!!😃🙌🤘💯💥💥💥
Part 5 is next week 🥳🥳
also another fun fact.....Artanis is voiced BY David Patrick Seitz.....who also voiced Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 2011 and MK X
Two legendary characters 😎🤟🤩
Hey you! I just finished the livestream video from last night. Perfect timing 😁
Nice! We aim to please 😊🤗🥳
I was waiting for this! Let’s go! ❤️
🥳🥳
LMAO 😂😂
"I hope that black hole is an exit plan.." Oh no. That is the attack plan!
Dig it! 😎🤟🥳
Great summary of why Zeratul is fantastic character 🥲
Well, you two better get ready because you still haven't met everyone's favorite attitude king: ALARAK. Also, you are so right on with all the A names by Blizzard. Just off my head I can say Arcturus Mengsk, Auir, Amon, Artanis, Alarak, Anduin, Alexstrasza, Abathur, Argus, Antoran Wastes, Auberdine, An'she (sun god from WoW), Arthas, Anub'arak, Azeroth, Archimonde, Adria, Auriel, and way more across all the games.
Azshara as well. Just sooooo many As 😂 There are 25 other letters to use Blizzard 😝
Best protoss character about to be revealed.
😯😀
Moar!Moar!Moar!!! :D
Edit: You missed "Reclamation".
Thanks for letting us know about that 😀
It's worth noting that the Protoss have three castes Judicators(Leadership caste) Templar(Warrior caste) Khalai (Worker caste).
We definitely believe Artanis always doing his best and what he thinks is best. Full trust in him 😎🤟🙂
OOh yeahh ! My life for Aiur part 1 !! Ansioso para segunda parte ! Assistam logo ! Alarak esta chegando

Ah, let the Karax x Solarite memes begin.
Respect to Kerrigan 😎🤟 We keep enjoying her more and more 😊
rashagal the mother of vorazun was possesed by kerrigan back in SC 1. zeratul had no other choise but to kill her, after finding out that was no way back for her. thats why vorazun hates zeratul. but she dosnt know zeratul had no choise.
Always two sides to a story 😢
That makes sense. Artanis has our respect for sure so if he had a grudge against Kerrigan. We can totally buy that it was justified 😇
I actually do like Kerrigan's redemption story from SC2 - but I'll always love the massively bold move they took in the first game and expansion to basically say "Here, you play as the 'villain', and the villain wins". The ending scene to Brood War is one of my favorite moments in video game storytelling.
