@@vidanageara First of all, I was NOT referring to status of the school. (although, it is a tuition paying school, therefore not everyone can go).
I meant she mentioned that she went to Gateway, which means we have to understand that she studied in English medium. When someone mentioned their school, we can get an idea their background. I am not talking about her here, this is just a general thing.
Private and International school have different syllabus and subjects they study. It is to prepare them for London, Oxford, Cambridge exams etc......They don't study the local syllabus or subjects like Sri Lankan History or Sri Lankan Geography etc....Some school don't even have Sinhaleese or Tamil as a subject. (This is for your reference)
YOU become influences in the subject you study. The language you study becomes your first language. There's no RULE saying you have to be 100% influences in SINHALEESE. This is a mentality that lead to a war in 1983. I don't know which part of Sri Lanka you are coming from but you need to come out of your cave and learn about others and different social groups in SL.
While most of are Sinhala speaking, Tamil also considered as a primary language followed by English.
English also known as the business language in Sri Lanka.
