Driver`s Eye View: Trondheim to Dombås

- This video is from one of my many trips between Trondheim and Dombås.
What you see is what i see when driving.
Some facts about this train line:
The train line is called Dovrebanen since it is crossing a mountain called Dovre in the mountain region Rondane, before arriving Dombås. If you have heard about the "In the hall of the Mountain King" or "Dovregubbens hall" in Norwegian this is where he is supposed to live..
There is at least two tragic incidents at this train line:
One train accident where two trains collided in Ila ( The left bend after the tunnel after leaving Trondheim) Where a day train from Støren heading to Trondheim failed to stop and collided with a extra train from Trondheim with some high prominent people from the grand opening of Dovrebanen the same day.
A total of 12 injured and 6 killed in this accident.
The architect who had designed the stations: Drivstua, Kongsvoll, Hjerkinn, Vålåsjø and Fokkstua, all of these is still standing and can be seen from 1:57:00 into the movie. (Killed)
The Engineer leading the work to build Dovrebanen was also killed in this accident called "Nidareid-Ulykken"
The other incident I`m thinking of is taking us back to WW2 at the railway tunnel right before we are arriving Dombås, the exact date is 21. April 1940.
At that date there was a American military Captain named Robert Moffat Losey in Dombås.
During a German bombardment of the railway station Robert and other peope ran for the railway tunnels for shelter, and when he was looking out of the opening he was hit by grenade shrapnel and died.
He was the first American military casualty during WW2, in 1987 there was put up a monument in Losey's honor saying:
"In memory of Captain Robert Losey, USAAC killed in action at Dombås 21st April. The first American serviceman to give his life for his country in World War II."
And there is some deer, a eagle and a birdstrike in this video. If you watch you wil see.

I have never had an explanation why i love a combination such kind of weather and sounds of railway. I rewatch your videos, i guess, every couple of mounts, and this one is my favorite - twilight and grey clouds during almost all way. Hope you'll share another videos yet. Thank you from russian north

god that horn sounds like me when i yawn..........home boi is TRUCKIN. this is why i like watching passenger lines. hit the gas and dont slow down.......by now i have learned most of the yellow signs that we see. but theres still a few i dont know, whats the one that is a yellow vertical rectangle with 3 black diagonal marks on it?
Hi, as the light improves so does the picture, I'm really looking forward to seeing the videos you upload later in the year as it is obvious the scenery is awesome. Thanks for this taste of things to come. Something I am often asked to include in my videos is a shot of the train the film is taken from and a map of the route. I use Route Generator, a free and easy to use tool available on the internet, I would send a link but if I do that the message will be sent to your spam box, simply type "Route Generator" into Google to find it (make sure you download it from the genuine website). I guess the railway company you work for have a map they will be happy for you to use with Route Generator. If you do decide to show a photo of the train and a map you might want to add sound, music can be a bit of a problem with copyright issues, one way round it is to use train sounds as the soundtrack. I'm sure your channel has a promising future, people just love Norwegian cab rides. I look forward to your next upload. Best wishes. Tim 👍😉
Sorry for the late reply, this comment have gone under my radar. But yea, i got a few ideas for my future videos. And i wil take a look into the route generator you are mentioning :)
@@FozenMoustache Hi, at the moment I am losing a lot of UA-cam comments too, I'm not really sure why. You may have a few problems when you first use "Route Generator" if you do, just drop me a line and I'll tell you how to overcome them.
GREAT !!! More videos PLEASE :-)
I'm glad you liked it 😊 There will be a lot more videos, so just stay tuned and check in on my channel from time to time 👍
A very nice ride on a scenic route. Thanks for uoloading! One question: Wich trains are allowed to travel at the speed indicated on the blue signs?
Thank you for watching! I`m glad you liked it. The blue signs are for trains with automatic tilt trough the curves, like the class 73 ua-cam.com/video/KtfSi_Oq9VQ/v-deo.html and here ua-cam.com/video/uymjcJt_ykA/v-deo.html I dont know if you can notice that this train is tilting in the curves?
Not sure if you're monitoring comments and see this, but if so, I am curious to know what time of day in northern Norway this was. Thanks!
Hello there!
I'm trying to respond to all the comments here. This train is departing 08.18 from Trondheim, arriving Dombås 10.55 and finally arriving Oslo 15.03.
Merry christmas 🤶
@@FozenMoustache Thanks so much for the response. I kind of love the fact that I cannot be sure of any of my (American) guesses about time there looking "outside the windshield" lol so I like to ask! Merry Christmas to you as well - stay safe, and please keep on recording. This stuff is tooooo good!
Trondheim isn't in northern Norway but in the central part, that is, south of the region with midnight sun in summer and polar night in winter. Even so, it's still quite dark at 8.18 AM if this was filmed close to Christmas since the Sun in that part of Norway won't rise until after 10 AM.
@@fromnorway643 Oh, okay. Thank you for the info! I have never been to Norway but am very curious about it and so intrigued by its beauty. Something calls to me from there.
I like trains
