Fishing minigames get a bad rap because so many designers don't put effort into the minigame. Some are terrible, and some are barebones but still fine, and a tiny few are great. Some of the best ever are: Fantasy Life on 3DS, and Stardew Valley. A perfect examples of barebones would be Monster Hunter (Wild, specifically). Icarus doesn't look bad at all, but the UI needs some cleaning up, perhaps.
I agree , there are great ones and really bad ones. And that probably has turned people off on fishing mini games. But, Stardew Valley is one of the most controversial among it's players. I personally agree that it's one of the best and I enjoy it so much I've done a fishing only (no farming) playthrough. Lol. But, you should see the subreddit, people just lament having to do fishing to complete the game. The Icarus interface could use a little love yes, but it actually functions pretty well, a lot like SDV. I like it.
Why why cant they just let us catch a decent fish and reel it in normally instead of some fallutin way. No wonder people hate fishing! It will be the fish net for me! lol
That's exactly what I was curious about. I like the mini game. They're trying to simulate the action of fighting a fish with a rod and reel. But some people are just annoyed by it. Guessing some like the idea of fishing (I also fish in real life) and others just want the fish. Lol It's great that Icarus gives us the fish trap option. They're catering to both audiences.
