What's life like as a Barents sea fisherman? The largest city in the world beyond the Arctic Circle is Murmansk. He owes his whole history to those who have linked their lives with the profession of a sailor. Here, all roads lead to the port, from here dozens of fishing boats leave for the harsh waters of the Arctic every day. Since city's foundation, life in Murmansk connected with the sea. In Murmansk, fish is the beginning and end of any conversation.

Your videos are excellent. I had an old friend who was on 7 Convoys to Murmansk during the second World War from the UK. It was interesting to see it as it was just a name to me. I admire the REAL Russian people, not the ones who are badly portrayed in the Western Media.👍👍❤️

No one hates or badly portrays the ruSSian people, it's just those that have been brainwashed by the ruZZian government and have no idea of how things in other parts of the world really are.

I also work at sea, even if in a different and somehow much easier sector. I go fishing just for fun.
But i so much understand what these guys feel. I also work with many nationalities and it tought me a lot to get to know their cultures and hear their stories. In most cases we are all so similiar and close , we help each other and talk about our wives homes and kids, plan for holidays etc.
At sea people are just humans

You are so dammed lucky, gutting down below,,, We used to do all the gutting on deck in all weathers, and trawling from both sides port and starboard, shooting one side while we repaired the other. There was never a moment when one of the nets wasn't over the side. Sleep, during the two weeks at sea the only time we ever slept, was on our way to and from the trawling grounds. I have seen us shoot a net before we'd finished gutting. then carrying on gutting while we were trawling. As for stowing the fish we had to do that before we hauled the next side, two-sided trawling,,, now that was hard work. As for food, all we had was Salt Beef, Cheese, Pickles and Bread. then only two days off. Ha, you have it so easy today.

Irrespective of where in the world and whether we use quotas or not fishing ( more accurately plundering ) at current levels is utterly unsustainable.

The work is not hard. It's long hours, but you acclimate to it. There's nothing hard about it. I crabbed for 6 years in the Bering sea. The weather is the most dangerous obstacle.

We can only take so much out of the sea ,hence the small catches and small fish ..If left for a few years to recover, the fish in this vid, would grow to twice size and help nature to get better .Why Isn,t there more legislation world wide .? ? Or we will run out of fish soon.

That's the problem when you have 1.4 billion people you can't sustain that & is the reason they illegally fish around the world. People from the 1930's depression Era have the mind set to conserve stuff but the Chinese 1950s Era phamon where alot of people starved to death mind set is to get it while it's there for some reason they don't see the need preserve for the future.
