What a great group of books - many are my recent favourites as well. I’m so glad you also found Cuddy and Blackouts such powerful reads. I agree it’s hard to imagine a better book this year than James - although My Friends by Hisham Matar comes close. I really need to get to reading Tommy Orange.

Enter Ghost, James, Soldier Sailor, Cuddy and Wandering Stars are all books that lit up my life whilst reading them. Thanks for bringing some others to my attention. The Long Form appeals from your description.
I loved the combination of art, history and memoir in Thunderclap. I must remember Ninth Street Women as an option for September.

James is probably going to win every award this year. Everett is having a great year with Erasure being adapted into film in the same year as his magnum opus came out. Sailor Soldier is going on my list.

People's favourite reads is really what I want to see for the mid and end year! 😀
Great to see Cuddy, one of my top reads this year. I haven't gotten to James yet, have never read Huckleberry Finn and am trying to decide if I should or need to to get the most out of James.
Also enjoyed Erasure which I read this year. Will work my way through Everetts backlist, The Trees is a favourite and I liked Dr. No.
You made me curious of The Long Form, will see if I can get my hadns on it!

You’re not the first reader on BookTube to rave about James. I must say, however, that the premise makes me hesitate. It sounds like a novel that was written an agenda in mind.

Not sure Everett does agendas beyond following his ideas where they go. I definitely think James invites the reader to create one.
