This is really late, but there haven't been TONS of reactions to this particular video. My favorite part during the sax solo is while larnell is ripping, the hired (and beautiful) string player directly across from Larnell looks at him like "You can do anything you want to me". My favorite comment on that was someone that said "And at 4 minutes, 38 seconds, her panties flew off". So good. And yes...that is a deep snare on his right hand side. He turns the snares off to play it as a tom. Larnell is rad.
I am deeply honored. My time has come. This comment appears on every Snarky Puppy “We like it here” reaction video throughout all time, and now I get to be the one to share it.
Larnell Lewis was called in last-minute, and had to learn most of the tunes the day before the recording on his flight to the Netherlands. Imagine, listening to just the scratch copies of these songs just the day before recording, then making it so thoroughly your own like he did. What a genius.
Lol. Yep. That's the story I have heard over and over. Pretty cool stuff
That groove is so nice that it deserves an ALGORITHM BOOSTING COMMENT.
The world needs a snarky puppy polyphia collab. It may cause an actual tear in the progressive music space time continuum, and catapult music into a whole new universe.
actually real, maybe throw in a thundercat feat and JD beck haha and its complete
nah snarky and chon
@@patrickmcadams7996 fuck that, we just need an entire concert with everybody lol. Snarky, Polyphia, JD & Domi, Anomalie, Thrailkill, Chon, Shubh Saran, Moray Pringle, Plini, Benny Greb, Ghost Note, Animals as Leaders, Louis Cole, and Vulfpeck. What an insane lineup that would be for a prog rock / jazz fusion festival!
i’ll tell you whats a fuckin treat; i must have watched every Snarky and Dirty Loops reaction going, and it would be fair to say that i’m a little jaded. Having just started watching yours, its reignited my enjoyment of these incredible performances. i’d love to see what you make of Valeriy Stepanov’ s version of The Chicken. I think you’ll piss yourself laughing.
That tom you mentioned around 8:18 is indeed another snare drum.!Larnell tuned it deep enough to sound like a tom by also using a specific drum head to achieve a seamless transition between the snare and the other toms when the snares are off, which creates a killer deep snare when they're on 👍
Nice choice picking Bob Reynolds for the thumbnail Tony. Snarky is incredible and Bob is such an awesome guy. I was fortunate enough to be in his online studio program for a summer trying to learn more about improv.
the most mindblowing thing about this track (to me) is how infrequently the time signature actually changes. if you wanna count in 3/4 it doesn't change at all, but even if you count the intro in 15/8, it only changes to 6/8 and back a few times. even the B section at 01:52 and bob's solo from 07:24 is literally just 15/8. wtf.
In case you're wondering why they keep showing the keyboard player in the striped sweater, he wrote this song. His name is Justin Stanton and he also wrote Bad Kids To The Back, which has another sax solo by Bob Reynolds. I guess he likes Bob's style.
Bad Kids to the Back was my introduction to SP. still in my top picks from their discography. Great music video too.
You GOTTA listen to "What About Me?" from the same album, that song slaps way harder than it should.
YES. This is my favourite track on the We Like It Here record. Bob Reynolds on the sax and Larnell Lewis on the drums absolutely crushing it, Michael League laying down those filthy bass lines, the subtle accompanying by the band complementing the soloist, just so good. It's one of the many bangers composed by Justin Stanton, along with Gemini, Broken Arrow, Bad Kids To The Back, and the list goes on.
Love to see Snarky Puppy on the channel, it's been a while since Lingus. I'd love if you checked out Keep It On Your Mind, from their last record, although I'd happy if you checked anything from them, really, especially since the Tell Your Friends record.
Man, I hope this video blows up more so we can get across how cool it’d be to see more Snarky Puppy, and Jazz Fusion in general, on his channel
If I win the lottery, I'd create a concert and get all my favorite reactors there for one massive party/content experience.
Step one: start playing the lottery...
Snarky Puppy is just such a great band name.
I got to see these guys live, and it was so damned good. Seriously, they played this track and it was just fantastic. The vibes were immaculate.
So much subtle stuff going on, i ear new things each time à listen to Snarky :)
Super interesting your reactions, especially with groups of this level.
There is a video on Drumeo where Larnell explains the Snare/Tom. You can search for it as Larnell Lewis' Secret Weapon (Hybrid Snare/Tom).
There's also a video of Larnell explaining how he sees Bob Reynolds' headphones fall off and decides he has to fill in the gap, so that moment of taking control of the solo and bringing it back is accidental.
Another impressive quality detail.
Sorry I don't know how to locate the video now.
@@marcossuarez5622 except he starts that fill before the headphones even fall off so who knows
Snarky Puppy response!
I always see that you have so much to say if you could do this long form.
Thanks!
No joke I thought, “how long ago was this video made he looks younger”. And then I see that this was published 3 weeks ago! Haha!
I love it and I hear it but i have no idea how to explain what i'm hearing. That's why i love these kinds of videos. Thank you. You put my love of music into words.
Starts in a slow 6/8 groove and goes wild from there. "A bit chaotic" was a good description, but how refreshing to play with musicians who can count to 3, 4, 6, or whatever by themselves
Lol yea, counting and playing in time is imperative
@8:11 was hoping you’d catch the direct interplay between the sax and what larnell plays but you got distracted by the amazing hybrid snare tom sound instead 😄😄
Which to be fair is an awesome piece of kit. There’s so much to break down in these songs they’re fucking dope
Haha yea this type of group has so many listenings needed
Hey @drumrollTony. My name is also Tony. I also drum. I also am trying to interview for a band director job.
I was listening to some of your comments and I can say our adjectives to describe Larnell are parallel. GRIMY!!!!!!! In a good way!
larnell lewis gotta be my favorite drummer at the moment
he explains the snare/tom here btw

The man obviously shops at Triplets Are Us... holy cow!!!
hi Tony. Here is an amazing sound track you really shuld litsen to its from the anime Blood-C its a really dark anime with an amazing sound track heres the name "Blood-C Soundtrack 02 - Shousha ni wa Houbi wo, Haisha ni Batsu wo"
I like the way the cymbal sounds on top of the second snare drum.
Bob Reynolds is such a beast.
Guys, I think I'm ready for the Salty Spitoon.
7:08 fired 😂😂
4.50 sounds like Dick Heckstall-Smith´s in the House !!
🔥🔥🔥
Me gusta snarky puppy, los descubrí hace 2 años, buena banda, en especial buenos sencillos.
Pd: recomiendo que escuches Triorität, es una banda se acid jazz, se que te va a encantar.
I just love your reactions to these vids Tony. How about some Knower, Valerie Stepanov’s cover of The Chicken, or Dennis Chambers/John Scofield ‘So You Say’…..
What a piece of music! Love your appreciation for craftsmanship and breaking it down.
heavenly delusion op please thanks 🙏
Keep the dream alive.
@@jetman2045. I'll try my best. one day
Stank.
hope you can make more video about genshin impact music :)
hey this is off topic, but remember Super Smash Bros Brawl? Well a while ago there was a new game called *cough* "Super Smash Bros Ultimate" The main theme is different from the one you heard and even has lyrics now the song goes well with one of the trailers... which is the "World of Light" trailer this theme is really good and my friend has like over 3000 hours on the game since they are one of the tourney players where I live. anyways back to the songs, not only does this game have a good theme, but there are many original songs made for some of the video game characters well I think like one, and that is Steve, or Minecraft Steve as many call him, my favorite song that I am listening to is "Halland/Dalarna" that song is based on the two camps in Minecraft Dungeons a RPG game, Also fun fact about Minecraft Steve, hehe, with his reveal, when it came out, Steve broke twitter and I mean Broke cause the server crashed which is kinda funny, also Steve is a menace to play against as he is well known to be broken, otherwise yeah, I highly recommend reacting to every single Smash trailer because they are really cool.
World of light is such a huge step down, it's just 8 measures repeated endlessly
