NYS&W SU-99 goes through crossing with railroad preemption

- This video was shot at the Charlottesburg Road grade crossing in West Milford, New Jersey
I've never been to this crossing before so when my friend John suggested it, i couldn't say no, and i've seen this crossing in passing, but never actually filmed it before
Crossing Info:
Signal #1: 2 pairs of WC Hayes12x20 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a Safetran Mechanical Bell
Signal #2: 2 pairs of WC Hayes12x20 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and Modern Industries mechancial bell
This crossing also has a preemption cycle. The traffic light seen before the crossing activates ONLY when there is a train approaching. The cycle starts by a flashing yellow light, followd by a steady yellow and then a steady red
Once this happens, the traffic light after the crossing will turn green to clear any cars off the crossing, then the crossing signals activate and the light after the crossing will go back to a normal cycle.

I live in nj but along the NEC not near these out of the way freight lines. I do know wear a couple exist and used to exist. I love videos close to home (shot in my state or nearby), so thanks bro

Like the Traffic Light with this one I don't know why but I do it Gives it more Control when the Train is coming!
I do like this crossing. sometimes when I'm at work and we are so busy that I can't function I stop what I am doing and put my arm in the air and yell out TRAIN and then my eyes begin twitching as in the flashing lights and then I yell out "DING DING DING" and my arm goes down slowly like a crossing gate and then 10 seconds later the train is over and then I get back to work and re commit myself to the order I was currently working on.
I use to do that when i was younger, only i don't use my arm anymore, i took two 36 inch rulers and taped them together then painted them white with red stripes.

I honestly believe that the traffic lights are more safer than the railroad crossing signals as far as idiots trying to beat the train.

How did you know the train was coming? Did you have to wait a long time?
I had info on what time it left the yard and from there i can calculate when it was going to be at this location

Depends on where you go, the more west you go from the yard, the later it will be. But if you go to lets say Butler, 6:30-6:45 it "SHOULD" come through then.

Nowadays, it's hard to frame the whole crossing/traffic lights/etc. such as on Mattawoman beantown road in Waldorf, Maryland.
Yes it is, and you can't stand too far back without not getting the crossing in the shot.
The lights flashing on the bottom of the railroad preemption never worked till now.

That crossing is very old I've been there.
This is my first time being at this crossing, i've passed by it, but never filmed it.
those traffic lights should be working all the time. Not at the time of the train approaches the crossing
What if these were incandescent lights? They would burn out way too fast. Plus you save power by having them not flash all the time.

They are actually SD-60s. The NYSW has 6 of them numbered 3800, 3802, 3804, 3806, 3808, 3810.
