- I show you how to Kickstart a dirtbike or motorcycle. I give you cold start and hot start procedures. The process should be similar on most bikes. My bike is a 1982 Honda Xl500r. Which is known being difficult to start when warm. I show you the solution to that in this video after getting the bike nice and hot. IF YOU FIND VALUE IN THIS VIDEO PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE. THANKS

I have literally looked all over Tennessee for an xl500..I would love to have one of these..beautiful bike.
Thanks for the hot start procedure!
Hey no problem. Hot starts can be a real pain. Especially if your also hot. Haha
I'm gonna go take a look at a XL500R tomorrow for my first bike. Originally i was looking for a DR650, but i stumbled upon the Honda, and it seems like a good deal.
Thanks for this video and also the great explanation on how to kick it!
Sweet vid. Just bought a fully restored XR500. Might be reaching out to you as I have no one that can help me lol.
I'm here
bought one of these bikes new from the dealership in '83. Drove that bike everywhere. A small gas tank and I would run out of fuel on reserve some times. I would then lean the bike all the way over flat to the left to get a small amount of fuel over from right side of the tank to the petcock. I could start the engine and get about 6 more miles to drive and find more fuel. I have had many Hondas since then the latest being a '24 XL750 Transalp.
Thanks for the video. I have a 1981 XL500S and hot starts are a pia. The '81 does not have a decompression lever but the automatic deco connected to the kick start. How would the procedure be with that variant?
I have an 81 too.. wondering as well. Let me know if you ever find out haha
Awesome I'm working on the same bike right now
Why is it harder to start them hot? I have the same issue on XT250.
it is a good sign when it can only go with a choke for ½- 1 min ,, that's how it should be when it's in good condition .. but 15 times on kickstarter 😃😃 I want to say 5-6 kicks ..
I had a 250 s loved it
Out of interest what carb did you swap the original out to? Cheers man
Mikuni tm36-68
What else did you need for the carb swap? The top piece on my Keihin cracked and and can’t find a replacement for it. Thanks
I have this same bike and top of my carb also cracked had a old xl500s parts bike and just took part from it.
@@GRACEVENTURES mind if I ask why you changed to that carb? I have an 82 all stock too but I have a supertrapp laying around figured i might install it on this one too (my 85 XL600R has one currently)
Anyway I’ve head people upgrade to an XR500 carb or even Jets to help it run cooler and more power, does yours work better on that area?
@@osalcedoucmsae I no longer have the bike. It didn't really give more power but did give better throttle response. I replaces the carb due to a backfire after my dad looped it. It blew the top of the carb apart and I had to either repair the old carb, source an old carb, or upgrade. Was an easy decision
Looks like your XL500R has a kick stand that is too short...just like my XL500R I just restored. Doesn't make any sense, as it is the original kick stand, but I have the exact same issue as you. Have you figured out a fix or why it is like that?
Eh I think its just how they are
Ehh some kickstands are just long.. the stand on my 08 xcf250 will fall over if the handlebars aren’t turnt all the way to one side.
Me.too it leans over so fsr.I think it'd gonna fall everytime
What is the maxium speed of this bike pelase reply
Probly 70-90mph deppending on how nice it is. But some go close to 100 mine does this and its a beat up old bike so i think it kinda random at times.
I missed something...where exactly is the 'decompression lever'. My apologies if this is a noob question haha
Just under the clutch. Some bike have whats called a hot start...
under the clutch lever
Some bike don't have it manly new ones.
xr/xl500/600 can be cold-blooded sometimes and fucking hard to start hot ,,, because they are old and bad compression ,, new piston,,, bore and hone cylinder ,lapping the valves you got a NEW BIKE you won't believe it's your good old bike
I got to where I never had a problem start it. The bike only had 5000 miles on it
@@GRACEVENTURES you bike looks nice and in good good condition my xr600r was deadly to start,,, its backfired and kickback like a evil beast new piston bore/hone cylinder and lapping valves/seats now it starts like a new bike ,,,no kickback and backfire 😄😄😄😄
Love the videos brother ❤ 💙 🙌 thanks for taking a second to look at mine
Hey no problem man!!!
