wedeMra, no but they are royal pains in the ass! I have an 02 A4 3.0 Quattro that I was restoring to stock from a botched attempt to modify. I’m going to sell it for parts because I’m fed up with the damn thing.

Glen Booth lol some, majority of the older Audi models with the 4.2’s are notorious for pushing throughout corners. The B7 RS4 was probably the most dialed cornering wise, yet it still wasn’t fantastic. The S4 line was never intended to be a track focused line, but more of a luxurious, yet fast sporty cruiser/daily.
@@16TheGotohell its impossible...you need to get Tüv for everything and maybe the mod is illegal so you have to remove it...fuel is cheaper tho..about 0.8-0.9€/liter
metalslug26 that’s not the biggest issue 👍 the timing chain that’s the biggest pain. Only good oils and safety. Let the engine spin for couple of seconds before turn off and let the start plugs warm like diesel it will increase oil pressure to get chains tighten the chain and they will be little rattle. Rattle is from born this cars but only 1 or 2 seconds from start up
Audi V8 actually sound pretty good👍. Though I don't know if there are any more reliable than a B5 S4? And their mileage was pretty terrible, I think even worse than the b5. Plus if you ever want any real kind of power you need a supercharger which is pretty much 10 grand. The B6 was also fat and heavy. But the real kicker that would make even me scared a B5 S4 owner ( and let me tell you I live my life check engine light at a time ) is the fact that the timing belts between the motor and the engine and they are prone to failure. But I would love a B7 RS4. I heard those are actually a lot more reliable. I would love one of those but I would have to supercharge it. So we're talkin 30 to $40,000 car already easy. I'm just going to keep throwing money at my B5😂
I've had nothing but luck with my 04 s4. I got it for a pretty good deal and I've put about 30k on it with nothing but general maintenance like oil change/brakes/air filters. You also won't catch me launching it out of fear for the worst.
@@16TheGotohell that's awesome👍 I've read a lot of bad things and horror stories especially on the B6. When the B6 S4 came out my eye doctor actually bought one. He told me all the trips to the dealer and how clueless they were, how many times they yanked the engine out. I can deal with ripping the front end off just to get to the timing belt, but yankin the motor out every time well I could see how that could get annoying, lol. But I think they have updated parts that have been working. And if it's true I'm sure it's really fun having a all-wheel drive manual V8 car. I've had my B5 S4 for 9 years. Never launched it myself as I to am scared to break stuff. But it does pretty well from a dead stop even without it.
@@easycomeeasygo8901 Allegedly yes, after Audi had revised the engine for better reliability when they heard that the timing chain was tremendously problematic in the older 4.2 V8s. Anything post-2008 are safe from the plagued timing chain, from what i recall.
Not people's fault! And chain was last to fail, 1st were the tensioners. Mine (3.2 V6) failed at 132k miles. Just took the car out from service. Got a bill of 1.5k. Saved another Audi.
I love Audi but I don't think it's in the same league as American muscle. I mean if you look at a Dodge Hellcat supercharged V8 it's a whole different story all together.
American muscle still stays American muscle. It's just some Germany cars have their own spin of muscle. I don't get why people have a need to put each ones on a pedestal all the time. American muscle is all about raw power with very big engines and Germany's equivalent is more refined - high priority in precision engineering. No one is better or worse, they are just a bit different.
Yet American muscle is nothing on a BMW v10 m5 with G power.....insane power and sound. As good as it gets imo unless you have insane money and can afford something like a demon

@Glen Booth muscle cars weren't made for cornering they were made for straight lines but with todays parts you can make anything corner

The Quattro is the reason you play hell trying to beat an Audi off the line!
Judging by the way people beat on these cars, no wonder timing chains be the issue
It's plastic guides and tensioners. It's a design shortcoming. They installed better ones later in the RS4.
