I wanted to ask if there is much difference between the cone clutch on a SX vs. SX-A drive? My SX-A drive has a pretty loud clunk when going into forward or reverse where my older SX always shifted quiet since new. I've always used Volvo Penta gear oil, both have aluminum single props, and idle around 600rpm.
That will a good video to do. When changing gears or shafts start with the original shims and then see how close to 0.025" you get with the special tool.
these videos are very informative and well explained, i am disassembling an dph-a and can’t get lower unit drive shaft out. i haven’t found any info about it yet
Usually when a seal fails and the gear lube looks milky its time for a reseal/rebuild or if the bellows fails and the boat is run or sits without repair it's time to repair the upper half
Great videos! I have an '07 Regal 2250 with a Volvo Penta Gi with a single prop SX-A drive. I wanted to ask if you ever repaint the drive units? I was told to use "SX silver 3851219" but it is a much lighter colour than the original paint. Online, I've found # 889968 as the correct paint for SX-A drives. Does that sound correct to you? Thanks in advance!

I have some marine mechanics advising to still use SAE 30 if you can find it. I want to get your opinion on this. Thanks again!
I have a 2004 regal with the 4.3 and Volvo pinta cobra outdrive SX 1.66 how difficult is a top to bottom rebuild was crusing first time out for the season at about 35 mph and the boat slowed to about 15 and drive locked up how bad am I screwed worst case ?
It does not sound good. The first thing to do is to remove the top cover gear lube dip stick and see if the lube is at the correct level. Next drain the gear lube to see if there is any water/metal inside. If the gear lube looks ok remove the drive and ensure the engine starts (only for a few seconds). Then you know the drive is the issue. Again, this is not for a novice, I recommend you have a Volvo Penta dealer rebuild it or try to find a good used one.

Where do you find the shims for the bearing carrier at? Original shim was a .112 shim and based on my measurements i need a .223 shim

There is a special tool that is required to remove the vertical drive shaft.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 got the shaft out by using only three items (liquid nitrogen, crowbar, sledgehammer).

The 3851219 is an earlier paint for pre 2006 sx & dps drives.
I believe you are correct the newer paint for sx-a, dps-a and dph drives is 889968.
