I have the same setup with a 23 tooth pinion on 8s . It’s been running great! Good look on the setup 👍

Definitely part of it man I've only ever killed one brushless motor like that. It was a traxxas velenion vxl 3s system I'm not sure what even caused it to go but it had seen some abuse over the years so it's hard to day

Those 1717 1650’s see to grenade quite often. I think there’s an issue with the Kevlar wrap. Castle replaced mine under warranty…. Only had about 10 1/2 throttle 8s runs on it
This one is over a year old so I guess it was due.
most guys know that you can over gear a motor...but you can under gear one as well. I'm not sure if that is what happened here...but 20mph with 6s just feels like that motor was able to spin up too fast and/or too high.
I recently put that same system in my scx6 ….bought the combo used with 2 runs on it (it was super clean and looked brand new) I literally ran it 2 more times on 8s and the armature seized and smoked just like yours did …..ripped around in second gear for about 5 minutes each time but mostly did some crawling in 1st gear…..not too impressed. I did like the power tho and might order just a new motor, then just run on 4 or 6s

Yeah well…. I ordered another 1650/mmx8s system, then I came to my senses and ordered another motor, the 1260kv. So for me it was a bit more than that.

All bushings no bearings yep been there on a 1:10 slash all stock brushless with 3s ran in high grass 4 3s lipos back to back got crap hot lol but your test was in ideal conditions

That's unfortunate. I might calculations on 8S the motor should have maxed out at 55,440 RPM. That's close to the 56,000 RPM limit but still below it.
yeah I'm sure it was due and in 1st gear I'm also pretty sure it was like a free rev for it.
Try the same test, but with the Hobbywing xerun 4268 1900kv you have. And a Hobbywing xerun XR8 Pro 200a esc.
Would've been interesting to see what the motor temps were when that happened.

Well. Since one of the wires seems to have desoldered itself. It was about 361°f. A bit toasty.

Killed two of those motors brand new within minutes on 8s. Gave up after the second one. 1650 doesn't like 8s

The wraps come loose and high rpm and the magnets try to fly out

The can on the motor has maximum rpm stamped on it. The rotors do not like breaking the sound barrier.

yeah I'm a dealer so that helps a lot, but nothing is ever free or cheap in this or any hobby. I spend a LOT on this hobby, too much.

- 1650kv is 6S max unless it’s a speed run with a larger pinion. What you aren’t accounting for is the extreme acceleration in low gear causing too much shear force.
Castle mmx8s only can handle 11kg (24 pounds), stock sx6 without battery weights 24,5 pounds
keep in mind gearing plays a major roll. I could run this truck off a brushed 540 if I geared it low enough
