I've got the scx6 jeep, now that thing really is a pain to get the body on. I broke my servo after about 10 minutes with a gentle bump and replaced it with the Powerhobby version of the beast 2000, for a lot less money. With the more powerful servo you won't like the imprecise steering, and will need to fix both panhard mounts. I made a brace for the lower mount to stiffen that up, and bought metal front suspension mounts to fix the upper panhard mount. Altogether this was a huge improvement to the steering ... then a couple of months later the panhard bar ball link (the bent one) broke on the trail and I had to carry the truck back. I have another bent one in there for now, while I look for a better option. Suspension links have all been fine. I reprogrammed the esc, and it's much more controllable now. I also went 1 tooth smaller on the pinion.

I've had my 6 since March and I've put 250 ozark trail miles on it so far. My 1/10 pretty much sit on the shelf except for comps.

I was in on the first pre-order release of the SCX6 Jeep and will be adding a Honcho 6 soon. While I didn't kill the stock servo, like all RTRs, I wasn't impressed and swapped in a Beast 2K. I was at 27lbs stock with two 3s5000 on board. Lots of Treal parts later it's now pushing 32lbs with batteries. And yes, a wet Rx and burnt servo resulted in a 2.5 mile pack out. Ya know what? WORTH IT! If you are only going to built 10th scale courses, do not buy the SCX6. Real world trailing is it's home. Direct power servo, Anti-foams in the tires and shim the diffs then send it. Rod ends wear out fast so carry spares or upgrade the links. I would love to see more 6th scale options and am expecting 6th scale comps to come soon.

I absolutely love my Honcho and agree it's a pain to carry if you have to. It climbs the same incline as my Capra but clearly does not have the same side hill capability. Driving this truck is a completely new experience and after I stopped crying about the money I spent.......I don't even miss the cash now as the stupid smile on my face is worth the price of admission. What other crawler can climb up the basement stairs;-) I look forward to your servo offering as after 20 battery packs, I'm sure there isn't too much life left in the original. Btw, your BEC was a huge help with the stock steering servo!

The ironic thing about it being such a risk to hike far from the car is that this scale is so much more fun and realistic for mellow trailing. I don't tend to trail my 1/10 scales through easy hiking trails - the movement dynamics at hiking pace just looks like toys to me. I carry them between rock gardens, and they look cool at crawling speeds. This thing moves like a real truck at hiking pace so I actually enjoy that part. Until it breaks 2 miles out, as you said.

So glad to watch a very down to earth review of the SCX6. Yes it’s a great rig but the cost to get it, and maintain it, is not financially feasible for a lot of us in the hobby. Thank you John!🤘🏻

i bought mine on launch day last year and i have only had a couple problems, probably 20 hours run time at this point. my axle pin came out and tried to tear apart the steering knuckle but it bound up pretty quick so I noticed it, took the pin out and just kept driving back to the car, this was like a week ago. i had a feeling the servo was going to fail on me but it was about 5 months before it finally went, so i got a NSDRC 2500oz servo. this thing is super bad ass and will tear apart the stock steering if you dont watch the end points, but i did have to warranty it once. overall its my favorite crawler

I love my SCX6. I got mine just before PBTF. I had a blast with that thing. Met up with a group of really good guys on the last night there and got to really see what the rig was capable o. Need a servo for sure. Other than that I find myself wanting to drive the SCX6. I hope this scale grows more.

I cant wait to see the motor you're working on! I've been hoping you'd do something like a big Revolver so we can have gobs of torque. Although then we'd kind of need a big silent ESC to power it ideally.

Nailed it right off the bat in this video. I laughed at my friend real good first time out when his slipper went out and he was carrying it out wuhaha. First thing I did on mine was put the NSDRC 2500 servo in it, treal shock mounts and pan hard mount, and proline super swampers with dual foams. All are a must, that stock stuff was crap out of the box. I really didn't like how much play there is in the ball joints either, and if you think that body was a pain, you should try the jeep...it's stupid. still absolutely one of the coolest RC trucks out there. 🤙

As you well know, I pretty much have one of everything at this point, but I don't have an SCX6... I've driven a couple my friends have, one even on 8S with a Castle System, and they are cool and fun, but as you said, it's just so big. (That's what she said. 😂) I don't really have any terrain for it around me, and since I'm often already transporting the giant Raminator and Mining Truck to events most times, the last thing I need is another large rig. Plus, I can ride the mining truck and raminator, but the SCX6 isn't quite big enough to reliably ride around like a golf cart. lol However, when we were at PLBTF, I could see that's where they really shine! I would definitely probably own one if I still lived in AZ or something.

Had the same feeling after paying close to 1500 bones for an Xmaxx and batts/charger, only to have a dead steering servo straight out of the box. Love the truck but left a bad taste having a paperweight while waiting for parts. Considering adding an scx6 to the crawler shelf myself, good to hear your no BS opinion on the truck

The servo on mine took a lot of abuse. Too bad Spektrum don't sell a gear set for the stock servo.
In my experience the stock servo behaves a lot better if you add an EBEC, the BEC in the ESC loved browning out.
The tow strap is definitely the way to go for this truck. I hate wrenching in the field and carrying this thing around is no fun.
Driving a truck this big doesn't get boring. It handles unlike any 1/10 and I've found it to be pretty solid.

I've never considered it breaking out on the trail. I take my 1/10 scales on long hikes. I've had to carry them back, strapped to my backpack, a few miles sometimes. But they're all less than probably 8 lbs each. I think 25 lbs would suck to carry, even if I could manage to attach it to my backpack. I still want one tho. Great review. 👍👍

I have the SCX6 Honcho as well..I think it stayed stock for about a week (that’s how long it took to get all my upgrade parts)..moved the power button on top of the passenger side fender well & used the spektrum program card to tune the ESC..havent ran into the body pin issue as you have, however the wires for the headlights have been a small issue for me..running the ambers in the bumper & the ditch lights only🤷‍♂️.. It’s a fun rig & pretty capable for something that size & weight

Make sure your battery cable isn't sitting on top of the motor when you try to close is - can interfere with it closing and make pins hard to align. BUT, screw the pins - I got this guy's hood latch system and it's perfect! Hope it's not rude to drop a plug for him: ua-cam.com/video/GIM0jRopJGQ/v-deo.html Also if you manually move the shift servo, you can get it into freewheel state and tow it out by a rope if you were desperate.

I always figured this as a flagship/youtuber hyper rig outside of the reach of the common man. I had the market all wrong, as tons of people are buying these. It's like Bugatti normalizing million dollar cars. I doubt they even expected so many people to spend that kind of dough on an RC. Though it's fair to mention there were uber expensive racing RC's in the 80's and 90's where people were spending a grand in old timey dollars on their setups. Compared to that this is a golden age of value for dollars RC.

It's cool but defiantly not for me, got out of the 1/5 scale petrol side of the hobby cause they were taking up too much room and got fed up of lugging them around , especially when they were covered in mud, 1/10 scale is the perfect size imo, take up less room so you can have more of them lol

It's beautiful and I'm sure a lot of fun but, yeah, while I think it's priced fairly for what it is, I'd have a lot of trouble justifying it.

Who’s runs 4s on the stock setup? My friend and I have one and really enjoy them. They are a blast to trail, we don’t rock crawl really. I would buy again if I had to go back in time.

The scx6 is awsome but definitely the electronic upgrades that are inevitable make it like a 2000 dollar rc and then all the tuning expenses like tires wheels foams is what made me not get one 1/10 scale is much more affordable and I enjoy rc crawling when I travel so a 6 wouldn’t make sense

I love it that you are honest no matter what. Other Tubers pee themselves over this thing and say its a blessing from the almighty himself. I didn't believe it a year ago and I don't believe it now. BTW thanks to some guidance you gave me I got my 4 link set up right on my rig. Then I went to order a purple servo.......... much disappointment was had. I bought something else for now until I can find the servo later (if it comes back).

Sure it's going to cost one a lot more then the original purchase price, because it is after all an RTR. And I've spent tons of money on its smaller 1/10 scale brethren.
But I like the size of this monster. So much that I made an 1/6 scale Jeep from a Nylint body and a Wraith (Before Axial built the SCX6). video of that If ya actually care ua-cam.com/video/8knaI0NuQI0/v-deo.html and the chassis ua-cam.com/video/J1BMM51y25M/v-deo.html So I bought one of these too (cheaper then my custom made Wraith/Nylint 1/6th scale welded up chassis, homebrew. I'll look forward in spending twice its purchase cost to bring it up to snuff. Well maybe not... but I will !? LOL
As far as hiking it home for repair ? Why hasn't someone designed a backpack for that purpose ? I'd buy one 😉 for sure. I've carried 100lb back packs before (military/camping). So I don't think a 25lb or 30lb backpack would be too difficult to sport !?
Looking forward on spending a small fortune on mine 😯 if it ever shows up 🤨thanks Horizon Hobby for their delay 😐

theres no way i can buy one so i built one . i used a rc4wd iron hammer chassis $150 , injora scx6 axles $200 , hpi savage transmission had it, integy kraton 6s piggyback shocks upgraded to viton o-rings and fox shock 10w oil in them $130 , dc motors DC35wDS servo (500 oz)$30 , injora drive shafts that i sleaved with carbon fiber tubes $30 , max6 combo $260 , shyfly gt7 $80 , mud slinger 3.8 tires on truggy wheels $120 , dyi carbon 4 links with oil lite bushings , body is 1.5 m carbon 3k plates , i bead blasted the cage and fit the tranny in then tig welded bracing around the tranny so it wouldnt fold over then powder coated it neon green after i test fit and made shock mounts where i wanted them . ive bashed this thing hard and so far ive twisted a drive axle on the front after doing donuts on tar . its bomb proof and am so glad i built it !!
