Ultra-Violence elitism prevents mappers from creating three unique challenge types:
A) Slaughter of lesser cretins, occasional Caco, Pain Elemental and Arch-Vile but nothing worse than spectres
B) Contra Hard Corps Boss Rush, go up against anything but hit-scanners or imps.
C) Survival Horror where enemies get upgraded. Hell Knight to Baron. No Arch-Vile or Hit-Scan but even less items.
Nightmare mode piggy-backs off of UV and ITYTD makes HNTR tolerable thanks to one thing: the amount of Health you get for your level is the same per difficulty type. There are far fewer but much heavier foes in UV than HMP. The sheer number of hit-scanners that come out of one Baron is enough to give players pause.
Well, they can have HMP, where you get to tackle the regular idea of the game sans hit-scanners. Ah, but no refills from hit-scanners! That's why it's survival horror; you used to scrounge for hardware and choose your battles. And by not having hit-scanners on nightmare mode and a sparser population, you can get by on nightmare without dying endlessly.
All this, but denied because of ultra-violence elitism. NEVER FORGET! NEVER FORGET HURT ME PLENTY!
I too find the occasional scream change for the hitscanners hilarious. :)
I like how the imp noise is the predator, and Snax said it was the alien noise when Doom was gonna be a Alien game but ID couldn’t get the rights.
Fox actually was on board, but ID changed their mind for more creative freedom

The map01 map's texture use and wide open areas with lifts reminds me a lot of a discount Dark Forces mapping style.
Speaking of bad editing tools (compared to all the different versions of Doom Builder), does anybody remember DoomCAD? Oh, man. First one I ever used! Got it off of the D!ZONE 2 Doom 2 3rd party "add-on". Amazing fun times learning all of that
I do remember that! that was the very first tool I found way back in 2001/2002 that would allow me to merge my different doom maps into 1 wad, haha!
@@DoomKid that's right, it had a couple different tools that came with it! I remember the desktop icons for cad being the red, blue and yellow keycards. Glad somebody remembers all that jank goodness!
Hell knights are better in almost every way, except for opening doors. That's barons' demesne.
Great to see you finally play this on the channel ! I'm playing along myself and funnily enough, Map03 on UV for me worked perfectly fine! The blue key area with the hell knight lowered as it should have without me needing to noclip, how odd! I use GZDoom and not DSDA so maybe that was it?
GZDoom fixes bugs like that, so that’d be why. Really useful in cases like this!

I sure did, I had a lot of fun with it too. We found some old Dwango history in there!
