Great example of this is when the government was shut down during Trump admin for weeks on end with no opening in sight. And then the flight attendants at JFK airport, along with some TSA, went on strike. JFK had to cancel pm all flights. Planes couldn't take off or land. One of the biggest airports in the world was essentially shut down. That one act even effected the global economy slightly. Next day, government opens. And that was just flight attendants at one airport. Unionize, organize, and make demands from these demons that reap the profits off our sweat while they do nothing but research litigation to keep out of legal trouble. Fuck them

How do the attorneys justify their 1/3rd payout ìn this settlement? This seems to be precisely the questioning that the judge should have asked them - and could have received explanations in DETAIL - had any of it been legitimate.
If 600mil, divided amongst ALL the residents affected, is a fair or even ADEQUATE amount (not just the bare minimum). Next, deduct 200mil and come to the same conclusion again. Finally, compare expenses and wages of the attorneys. Be sure to include their work hours (go ahead and be generous). Last but not least, put these 3 spreadsheets side by side so they may reflect how sound this settlement is. One area ought to jump out as not extremely off would be time. Lawyers can easily track their own invested time and that is submitted. Residents might be able to add up time spent on doctor visits, meetings, and consultations. But they can't include sick time, whether their own or caring for another. They can't estimate how many hours in the future this will cost them. Nor can they suppose how much this is going to take away from their ability to earn an income. The worst part is that NONE of that is submittal unless their own lawyers DO THEIR JOB, OR THE JUDGE DOES HERS
The residents still deserve so so much more.
This payout should have been the initial emergency payout of the settlement, followed by more, dependent on health effects.
I don't understand why most people did not opt out and sue for more than $70k. Or sue when health complications arise. $70k does not cover cancer. $7 million maybe.

No other candidate has a chance to do anything except likely pull votes that could have been used to elect Harris/Walz, the only halfway decent horse in this race. It was the Trump administration who deregulated the trains and what they could carry. Buttigieg should have fixed that. However, Trump's policies are still pushing deregulation all the way if he gets in office again. Voting still is an option - no method has been invented yet to stuff ballots the focus is on delegitimizing voters. A couple things. First, this was approval of the class action settlement that only affects people who opted in, correct? People knew the terms months ago and decided to take this offer instead of suing themselves. So if it was a bad deal -- which I think it definitely was -- then they should have opted out. The ridiculous attorney fees at least show why most lawyers will take these cases on contingency. There will be many separate lawsuits for anyone who wanted one.
Also, has anyone on this panel ever attended a class action settlement hearing before? Apparently not. The settlement agreement and order for approval would have been written months ago and available for the parties to review and file objections. All objections would have been submitted in advance and reviewed by the judge. So it's hardly a surprise that the judge read from the settlement and agreement.. by the time of final approval it's a done deal.

It was under Trump who deregulated many things, that made it okay for these trains to transport these chemicals in the quantities that resulted in this explosion. Buttigieg should have fixed that. However, under Biden, who was clearly turning into a vegetable, that may have been difficult to achieve. Harris/Walz will have a clean-ish slate if they win. Given that Trump has outlined how much more he wants to deregulate things, including the elimination of the Department of Education, it would seem that we would be in for more decisions that will damage those that are not the ultra-rich.
