I wish that quietness for my life, but I'm listening this podcast while tidying up, if i decided not to have noise in the background i would've miss this important video that makes me think about how dependent I'm of filling that noise space, it's that fear of missing something important what makes hard for some to maybe clean without learning something, there's definetly not enough time to do everything when you can actually do two things at onces 😢 in fact i wouldn't have learned about minimalism if it wasn't because i did that, and i wouldn't be tidying up and declutering right now if it wasn't because i listen to this podcast in the background that motivates me to do it.
But i still want to be ok with the quietness

I love waiting, it is the only time I can find myself with down time AND zero expectations to be doing something.

I am on the same page as the lady from Germany. I have not bought a legit changing table. I made my own by connecting a changing pad to a metal cabinet that was the right size. After I was done using it I was able to convert it back to a file cabinet. Now I just put washable cloths on the foot of my bed and change my child. Less worry of a fall in my opinion. No need for majority of fancy baby gadgets. I haven’t used a baby swing for my babies even though some women swear by them. I boil my bottles in a pot, and use my hands to warm up wipes and use a typical trash can with a lid for diapers. I find a lot of purpose when I try to find creative ways of living instead of buying every little object that clutters my home and mind. Currently trying to teach my oldest children how to let go of things they don’t care about anymore, and bless others if possible.

I get the woman who wants a luxury thing here and there.
I don’t have a lot of stuff. However, the stuff I do have is quality and it’s not cheap. I buy quality clothes, appliances, furniture, etc.
Not being overburdened allows me the freedom to do that.

Listening to the podcast and TK’s comments on screens inundating us everywhere really resonated! I would also like to add this. Why is there (loud, I think) music always playing everywhere I go even just walking down the street in some places? Are we that broken as a society that we aren’t even allowed to be at peace with our own thoughts?

You guys have knocked it out the park again with this episode! Fantastic!! I have written down several things you've both said. I like that you open people's mind to different possibilities. I'm picturing Joey Tribbiani asking that space "how you doing"😉 . Let's embrace the stillness. Day by day ❤. My friend once told me in regards to having babies the days are long but the years go fast. And I think that can be applied to all our lives. We don't want to look back and think wow I spent X amount of hours being over engaged with screens, TV, gaming. Now has arrived. Make a small change today. Forget one evening programme go for a walk. Ask your friend or partner a dream they have.

I love TK's story on how he was gifted books while at the monastery! How incredible was that! Loving your book, Love People Use Things. Just started it yesterday so only about 25% through. Thanks again for your lessons and encouragement.

I hope this question only conveys my genuine interest and intent to understand as a new listener and as someone who is struggling to disconnect and looks up to the life you both have created - do you believe that perhaps this lifestyle has been easier for you to pursue and sustain because you have found a way to monetize and make a career out of it?

@@lindagutierrez6335I was mainly responding their discussion about limiting/disconnecting from social media, not things. I wonder if it may be easier for them for set “social media” boundaries in their free time because it is part of their job, and they are therefore ‘allowed’ interact with online communities b/c it’s within a professional setting.

I think that you have a valid question. The minimalism came before making a living from it. The life and space gave them the time to write the blog and the books that started them on the path of earning from their life choices.
Obviously, I can't answer for them, but there are many minimalists who aren't making money from being minimalists.

An empty room seems sterile to me. A room cramped full gives cluttered anxiety. It's hard to find just the right amount. We try to find just the right amount for US. It looks different for everyone. What I don't struggle with is downtime. I either enjoy the silence or what's good after caring for family, to enjoy family. Games, reading for kids, connect. That's always a win win. But what I struggle immensely with is...hobbies. I don't have one. I am not a reader, I have no specific talent to create something with my hands and tbh I am not a people person. Cooking and baking only goes so far...and it's not a joy. You can only clean so far...clean is clean... what can a person that has no talents do as a hobby? I have enough silence time to enjoy...

I can see how this concept has gained so much traction in a relatively short period of time. It fills a gaping hole in the need for many to fill that void created by consumerism. Edward Bernays would’ve been hired to sell all the minimalist’s paraphernalia. With 7.2 million views of their UA-cam version, that’s a lot of eyeballs!
While what these guys are doing sends a wholesome message out to the collective. Unfortunately, it’s missing just what many other podcasts, UA-cam channels, writers and many other creators are attempting to cover. The deeper social issues not only still plaguing us all, many have been around before these two guys were even born.
Right now around the world, there’s a terrible fallout surrounding the cv-19 jab which still can’t even be acknowledged without repercussion and or matching censorship. The constant weather manipulation we’re all exposed to collectively across the world, the aerosol injection, better known as chemtrailing along with the HAARP (high altitude auroral research program), the ionospheric heating etc., All of it never mentioned whenever the “climate change” narrative is rolled out.
These issues are very real and purposely ignored by the mainstream for a reason, because they do not want the general public to really be informed, but rather sidetracked by issues and social nuances created by the very mechanism which continues to manipulate and steer the social structure. We are a product of social engineering, it’s not our fault, it’s the fallout created by engineers like the aforementioned, Edward Bernays, also Hazel Kyrk, Charles Kettering and many others before and after.
They know all about the hole inside us all, it’s created by the endless treadmill of demand. The need for more money to repair the debt, the depression drugs supplied by doctors/psychiatry created by big pharma, because of consumer demand for a cure and so on. It’s the ouroboros effect, the snake eating its own tail.
Our children are unwittingly exposed to wifi radiation which still isn’t acknowledged by the mainstream.
I see why The Today Show called these guys, NPR, TEDx and all these other outlets, they’re the cure, the cover for all the real ills we’re all still suffering from. The real panacea, the real cure is a collective awakening to what we’re really up against, these two have just been expertly used to create a facade. It’s not their fault, they mean well, but we need to do a lot more than just sell off some stuff.
    Sorry for the rant.

@@thr0nic many people do not like a cackler - its abrupt and noise pollution . I live next door to one and so many people that have come to visit me have said she must drive you nuts.. So what if she's an actor does that mean people should enjoy a cackler ? Does she cackle like that in professional acting roles ? Probably not as she would lose her audience rather quickly. She laughs like Hillary Clinton 🤢 and that's not a pleasant laugh !
