What a thrill to hear one play! About 10 years ago I was just up our road visiting a part-time scrapper and spotted an aluminum case in his "dirty aluminum" pile and asked him if I could take it. He said sure as we were friends. I about fell over when I got it home and opened it! It was a Model K with the red interior. It was complete, but moisture had gotten in from a 2" spot of corrosion through the lid. I knew better than to try and mess with it. I gave it away for $150. to a restorer in the bay area. I hope it looks and sounds as great as this one, and I'm glad someone will enjoy it. KL
Irene Dunne and Cary Grant probably had one of these record players when they made the film "Penny Serenade". In the film a standard Victrola large cabinet model was used to play all of the 78 RPM records that were played throughout the film, each song representing a different situation in their life together.
Had one of these machines as well. The motorboard was quite wobbly when winding and the ceramic cartridge also lasted the test of time. The leaking caps had been redone as well along with the 3 tubes. Did the same layout with batteries in the old Burgess box. It sounded ok as well. The needle made the record squeal as well. Couldn't rectify that problem. I should have tried tungstone needles come to think about it now. Very low production models and scarce units to this date. Very hard now to find another good working model. I think they still have one on display at the Brooklyn Museum.
The tempo is very unsteady, and it seems to follow the amplitude of the groove. Maybe a thinner needle would give less resistance and hence even out the speed? Or maybe it needs a new spring? The sound seems wonderful, though. So rich and warm.

It looks exactly period, matching the sound of that Great Record which I also have as a fan of all 4! Especially Louis and Bing!

Stunning.
That is super nice. Love it!

It's interesting the 1G6 dual triode output tube is transformer coupled to the second gain stage.

Still, the double spring motor 0:55
