Chopin: "Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art."
This performance is a demonstration of balance between passionate expressiveness and the purity and simplicity of this piece. Mr. Andsens has approached the piece very studiously and this is why he was able to execute it to near perfection.
For me, one of the most heavenly pieces for solo piano that I have ever heard! Sublime music.... Sibelius can write hauntingly beautiful music and Leif Ove Andsnes shows his love for it here!!
The entire set of six Impromptus by Sibelius are among his best works for piano, along with the Piano Sonata, the Piano Sonatina No. 1, Kylikki, and the Romance in D-flat major.
I do not know much about music technically wise, but I can agree with you fully! Although I might not know how to read musical notes or whatsoever, I can feel the music and I can say that this is one of the pieces that haunts me the most and got me the most impressed, as it just lingers in my soul and drives me away with it.
Absolutely agree! It's as if Andsnes perfectly hears what Sibelius wanted to express, and he puts the perfect emphasis in the right spots. A lot of the other interpretations quiet down on odd stages, or feels "herky jerky" in a way. This one just shines all the way through!
Ascoltato all'infinito.. E come Andsnes... Nessuno! Pura magia.. 👏👏👏
Brilliant interpretation. I wonder how this gem could sound if you have the piano version and the string orchestra version being played on stage, piano and strings.
Bravissimo! What an impressive finger dynamic control! This lays definitely a standard on how to play the Finnish maestro! If something critical would have to be pointed out the underlining of the melody is perhaps a tad on the heavier side, but that's just an opinion. I only have to ask, is it just me or is Andsnes' pedal changes a bit late in relation to the chord changes at times?
This piece is absolutely underrated. It's among the most beautiful yet ''simple'' piano pieces.
Not really simple…….,..
For a true pianist, nothing in music is "simple", and yet: Simplicity is the final achievement.

One of Sibelius' best piano pieces in a ravishing performance. The right hand arpeggios in the middle section are very difficult.

Meu Deus, quanta beleza!!!
This is the best version currently on the tube. Best interpretation, technically best recording, and best performance.

Today is our National Sibelius Day. Love this so much.
Kirsi Huotari yes
Fantastic!! 👏👏👏👏👏❤
I'd heard and loved the string orchestra version for years, never knowing it was originally for piano.
Awesome...
Znalazłem TO po audycji dziś w Polskim Radiu 2. Cudowne, poruszające do głębi, bez końca muzyka. Dziękuję!
Så flott...å høre Leif Øve å spille Sibelius tusen takk

Just like a swan is mourning her lost lover on the surface of swan lake.
and Sib was into swans
🎉
Splendido! Lo ha eseguito splendidamente anche a Milano a fine novembre 2017.
I can't find tabs for this
Can anyone make a a midi tutorial for this song? Its amazing
like watching a cloud decide to make snow.
Sibelius was not known for his piano music, although his orchestral works are divine
though wrongly so and now platforms such as UA-cam are doing the necessary readjustment

Vidunderlig!
Finnane må vere stolte av sin store komponist som vi nordmenn er stolte av vår pianist.
The beginning is like Liszt's First Legend.

Chuck Norris Son plays piano ?
Chuck Norris' son plays the piano?*
No.
No matter what I hear, this is my favourite. Bach got nothing on this. Only Ravel come close
