- You can achieve a beautiful lawn by sticking to the basics! So many folks get caught up in all the hype products when all you truly need is water, NPK, pre emergent, disease control!
Good stuff👍. This is like some of the first videos I saw from you where you talk about what you use without trying to sell anything. Really like this kind of content. So glad to have an objective channel that isn’t pushing Earthworks 😂
🤣🤣
Yea I stopped with the humic acid and rgs and microgreen stuff. I use fish and kelp emulsion/molasses and DEF (urea)
hahahahha liquid aeration......of course its BS. j perry made alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ selling BS
I have absolutely nothing against John but it will never replace true aerification and I see no point in liquid aerification myself!
Personally I found out about humic acid through researching hydroseed mix stuff. Didn't realise it was trending.
Man sharing all the secrets. I’m taking notes 📝

Rule number 1: get Tahoma31
New viewer and enjoy your simple straightforward approach. Where do you get your supplies from the Plant food company that you show in this video
@@rickysmith6019 call them direct they will set you up with a company representative
This was great content man thanks for not trying to sell something that's not really needed good stuff man

Do you think lawns that are irrigated require more nitrogen. Maybe from leaching or the fact that the grass is growing more. Or maybe spoon feeding it would get more even of a color across the turf.
Honestly I’m not sure obviously is you are pumping water to it you would think more chance of leaching but that would also depend a lot on your soil type! I think spoon feeding is the best approach either way!
I’m sticking to a granular fert at the ratios of NPK my soil needs, with applying 2/3 of my yearly needs in the fall and 1/3 in the spring and will spray foliar iron through the hot months to maintain color and keep it watered.
I love this!! Obviously I don’t apply a lot of granular in the spring only one app at .5 pounds of N which I may not do next year but I apply most of my granular in the fall! I do apply small frequent liquid apps in the spring along with some iron just for the extra color.
Hey man I think this info was very honest and helpful. Lawn care is expensive, Period! I have a very basic fertilizer plan each year and it works just fine
That’s all you need. Bios only help so much if applied before stress. When it gets blazing hot and no water nothing is gonna save you except water!!
RGS stinky water in a jug

Thanks for your honesty. Someone not trying to sell us stuff. Refreshing to know. Appreciate it

I like it!! Calling it like it is….

Would love to see a video on preemergents!
I can do that
@@Primetime_Fescue my zoysia is a year old and I have no idea what pre-emergent I should start using.
I will admit that I've been using the Greene County bio stimulants and have wondered if it's worth the effort! This video helped a lot.
@fitzpatrickmathemati well I just filmed a video lol. Didn’t know you were warm season but I did mention 2 good ones in the video so I’m gonna make you wait a few days 🤣🤣 I have no issue with you running bio stimulants but what I was trying to explain is they aren’t magical and gonna save you if the weather get really bad. As long as you apply them before stress they can help some but as I mentioned it’s not gonna save you whatsoever!
@@Primetime_Fescue makes sense!
I need help, you have no idea how much brutally hard work I've done, the money I've spent and how disappointing my results have been. I'm an idiot though because the first thing I should've done when I started this 2 years ago was add lime to my soil, because these yards were neglected for years and I didn't even think about that until it was too late. I must've renovated then seeded and over-seeded about 10 times, I had some beautiful growth just to watch it turn colors and die off in just a few weeks. Everything I had going on were signs of overly acidic soil, the soil wasn't limed in many years and we have a lot of pollution and acidic rain here in the northeast. Now I did a major over-seeding 2 weeks ago that landed me in critical care with a major heart attack, now as I've been recovering the lawn actually grew in quite nicely, now I'm worried about it staying alive, so I spread about 80lbs of pellet lime over it in hopes that it helps balance the soil ph.😢
Thanks for the honest opinion. Means allot. Is there a place to buy Plant Food Co. products for the home owner?
As of right now you would have to contact them and they can get you with a sales rep.
Do you have a video of your actual schedule of what you put down and how often?
If not.... can you make one? 😇
I don’t have one but I could possibly do one in the spring for next year
Now that’s straight up and honest, I can get behind that all day! Man I appreciate you laying it out like that because it’s easy to get caught up in lawn care and folks trying to sell you everything.
I’ve got tons of jugs in my garage of different products but this year I didn’t have time like I normally do, so I just concentrated on soil tests, NPK, pre emergents, fungicides and the ever important water.
Honestly my lawn looks just as good, if not better, than when I was flooding it with every Bio known to man . Pretty much just spraying money all over my lawn!
🙏
Thanks for be 100 % reeal on this video. Had a great revelation watching this. Thanks...
🙏
Sorry if you said it in the video, but what is your tool of choice for liquid applications? What affordable equipment can a homeowner get to allow them to spray 1.5 acres?
I didn’t say it but honestly after seeing a Gci cart buddy that would be my choice if I didn’t have a ride in sprayer. Obviously you can use a backpack but you would have to fill up so many times it’s would be a lot of work.
That aerator is insane. Way beyond my budget lol
It’s nice that’s a fact!!
do you prefer ammonium sulfate or urea for your nitrogen ? Thanks as always
I prefer urea. AMS is good but it can lower your soils ph. If that’s needed then go AMS. I want apply straight urea or AMS in the warmer months April-September though I like something with a little slow release mixed in also which I run the 29-0-0 50% slow it’s AMS, urea, and urea triazone which is the slow release part of it
I think as lawn nuts we get in the rabbit hole of lawn care and get sidetracked, but the reality is that lawn care is simple and just a good soil test shows the story. I also bought into the bio stimulants and i got rich loamy soil that I only water 3 times over the summer 😂
Yup just no need for humic imo. Bios are ok if applied before stress they can definitely help some but it’s not gonna save you if it gets hot and dry! Only water will do that so they aren’t the end all be all.
Bless you Man !!!!!! Great Vid
🙏
Good video! Your recommendation for a “Winterizer” fertilizer for a over seeded Tall Fescue lawn in the mountains of WNC? Thanks
All depends on when you’re wanting to apply it. I apply a 58% slow release granular first end of October first of November that will hold it into December but after it turns cold I would apply a fast release liquid something urea based or AMS because those work in cool conditions. Hard for me to tell you a specific product as I don’t know what is available to you.
@@Primetime_Fescue ok sounds good! Thanks! I am currently researching on-line! Thanks a bunch
Brad what is your opinion on Kelp?
If applied at correct time spring and fall when roots are growing good it can help push roots. I think it’s kinda pointless in the summer imo because roots aren’t growing crazy.
Great content. Much appreciated 🎉
🙏
What’s your opinion on plant growth regulators and if there is an improvement is root strength by using it in the spring and fall?
I’ve used PGR a lot it definitely helps push roots that’s been proven! I’ve run it on Bermuda and bentgrass greens when it was the correct time to use it. I have also ran it on fescue and I must say I want do that again idk what it is but mine don’t respond to it like it does to other grasses. Don’t know if it’s because it’s taller and it gets over regulated or what but I want use it again on fescue.
Let me add this also I used primo on bent and Bermuda and used anuew on fescue primo might be a better choice I can’t answer that but I did not like anuew and keep in mind if something happens like disease it’s a done deal until it runs out of regulation
What is your opinion on wetting agents? I'm thinking about trying some next after the hit my lawn took this year
They can help some definitely! As I have told everyone it’s still not gonna save you without water! Can it cut back on some watering yes it can help!
The underhill H2O Maximizer pellets work great on localized dry spots and along concrete areas
Good video Sir! So pretty much watering, NPK, mowing. One thing help me through summer was SoakOrr Wetting agent.
I have no issue with that. Don’t have an issue with bios but it’s not gonna save you when it gets bad! Obviously if you’re hot and humid you will need fungicide also!!
@@Primetime_Fescue yea I run fungicides every two weeks starting in April through end of September. New Jersey gets humid a lot. Thanks you for all the tips you been giving us through out the year, really appreciate it Sir!!
@@caprisingh7793 thanks for the support!!
Thanks for this video and thanks for being honest. What is your thoughts on going with a liquid fertilizer program for the entire season? I have about 8700 Sq feet I will be spraying. Thanks.
I have no issue with it. Just understand liquid isn’t going to feed as long as a granular fertilizer but obviously you will see a faster response from liquid bs granular also.
@@Primetime_Fescue Thanks again. Do you purchase your liquid fertilizers online or do you get them local. I’m not sure where I can purchase Plant Food Liquid Fertilizer in the Charlotte area of NC.
@@braycav6609 I buy them from a plantfood rep. Call them they will set you up with him! It will be my rep who you deal with.
Thanks for providing your knowledge on this without selling us crap. I might keep trying with humic (because it's fun to spray and makes me practice haha), but what are your thoughts on biochar? Does it help? Worth applying?
@@langman9809 same basic principle as humic. Years of use you might see something! I just can’t tell you folks how much of humic and biochar I’ve used over the years. For me personally I have seen no change other than possibly the top .5” to 1” of soil. Ive used it all here on my lawn since 2019. For me with a big lawn it’s just not worth the money imo for that small of a change which has been nothing basically. I’ve run gallons and gallons sometimes 6 gallons a time trough my fertigation and the irrigation water had a brown tint to it and seen nothing. One would think that would be the ideal way to apply it to get it into the soil 🤷♂️
If it makes you feel good then apply it it’s not going to hurt anything other than your wallet.
Haha well said, I'm gonna use up what I have through next season and then stick to the basics and see how she goes. Again appreciate the videos bud.
Sorry last question, have you tried that hydr8 granular for heat stress?
I have not tried that one. I do use one from plantfood called hydration A+. Noting magical there either can it help some yes and save some water but at the end of the day the grass has still got to have water and if it gets dry enough a wetting agent is only gonna help so long.
I slightly disagree on the humic. I originally had clay.. tilled in a large amount of sand into the top maybe 5 inches of soil and have been using humic (granular not liquid) for the past 10 maybe more years. There's a definite difference in the soil in the top 3-4 inches and it's working its way down. If I dig a hole the top 3-4 inches has turned into a rich dark brown-black almost loamy soil, which I never introduced to the yard. Below it's slightly sandy clay then straight clay. But aside from that minor difference of opinion, excellent video. There's an abundance of people on the lawncare corner of youtube trying to shove products down people's throats it's refreshing to get a concise, informative video on what you really need, and what "luxuries you might add on top.
@@stevenstadler5894 I did say in the video after years and years you may see something.
