🌼Hello Karen and Catherine and friends watching from around the world. I’m 67 and a Master Gardener living alone in an apartment now. I lost my home and garden in divorce five years ago, so I live vicariously thru you two and many other videos like yours. I do know after many years experience, gardeners are the nicest people in the world! Thank you for brightening my days and for being so very nice. Your kindness is extraordinary. Happy gardening everyone from southeast Michigan USA. 💚💛🌼💚💛🌼💚💛

Your story parallels mine, quite a bit.. I just turned 68 yesterday, the 29th and I’m just beginning to get my feet back under me.. I’ve put so many gardens in, for friends and family but, starting over from scratch at my age now ,is very daunting. With these high 90 temperatures in Tennessee US.. what I was able to put in this Spring is struggling in this heat and I can’t get out in that extreme heat and so the plants are struggling from my neglect.. looking forward to fall planting.. you girls are such an inspiration ❤️❤️

Hey! I just turned 70 & live in GA, although I did live in TN for 8 yrs & loved it. I’ve been living at this one house for 25 yrs & Im ready for a change but unfortunately we can’t afford to move now with the crazy housing market the way it is. So, I just keep adding more gardening beds but you are right in this heat all I can get done is watering & some weeding. I, too, look forward to fall. I’ll be heading to NC to the mountains to visit my daughter in October & can’t wait!

The same thing happened to me! If you’re a gardener then you’ll understand giving up hours and hours of investing in a landscape, then leaving it.😔 Now that I’m sixty-one, I garden in my little yard, but when I rented and couldn’t garden I found volunteering helped me so much, and I still do it! I’ve planted at my grandson’s school with grounds beatification, spreading mulch at the local high school, joining a local garden club (definitely not one of those that do country club afternoon tea…these ladies are spunky!) and landscaping with another plant lover on my church property. I’d be honored to work along side of a Master Gardener, so use that gift! I hope your knowledge and love for plants can be used to brighten someone’s corner in our world! Bless you sweet friend!🌿

My neighbour grows her marigolds by saving the whole blossoms & drying them well. In the spring she digs up the soil, and using her hands just crumbles the dry flowers and digs them into the soil well. She ends up with a beautiful dense mixture of blossoms that changes every year. She even scavenges blossoms from neighbours if she sees some she likes in their gardens.

I like watching you girls chatting and laughing. Seeing your gardens in bloom helps me pass this weird winter we are having down here. Temperatures are climbing up to 25°C once a week, plants haven't gone dormant. I was hoping to transplant a few but I couldn't. My winter bulbs are up but only a few daffodils are in bloom. Last summer I lost half of my plants to the extreme drought and heat but I learned a lot. Now I know which plants will thrive in harsh conditions and that will make my live easier, we just have to adapt, save water, protect our environment and use more natives. That will help native species as well. Keep enjoying your gardens, girls!

I now have green grass , a couple of ever greens and a few flowers. My backyard looked like a park and then my two bearing mulberry trees died. So did my fig tree, and now my yard is a blank slate, with the exception of two tall evergreens. I have plans for how I'm going to landscape my backyard. I keep my echinacea in a large clay pot. With casters so I can move it . I live in Tennessee USA and we can have very cold winters and very hot summers (it's 97°f with a heat index of 103°f right now at 7pm!) She's survived 4 years now. But in winter I have to cover her up really well or she'll freeze. 2 years ago, a tornado touched down just a few miles from me and did some damage to my little cottage and garden but other people suffered much worse ; so I'm not complaining

Howdy from Dallas, Texas. I so love your chitty chats. You ladies crack me up. So.. what has been the bain of my existence? I have started foxglove from seed three times. and three times I fail. They take forever to germinate, they get about 1/4 inch high, then die on me. I probably over water them, under water them, or not give them enough fertilizer or too much fertilizer, not enough heat or light. Who knows. I had a bad few years with hydrangeas too. But now we seem to get along better. No hard feelings.

Successful events this year: i had three rose cuttings that took. Tons of petunias self seeded from last year so i didnt have to buy ant at all. I managed to keep seven coleus alive through winter by bringing them in the house. Planted them outside in june and they are doing great.

Hi girls! Loved the chitty chat. I'm in Quebec and the weather in has been so weird this summer. So hot and heavy rain. The veggie garden is doing ok but was definitely better last year. Can't complain about the rain though bc it's helping with the forest fires. It's very strange to not be able to see the sun bc of the smog😞
I'm super busy with work so I purchased less plants (veggie/herbs, annuals and perennials) and the only plant that had an issue was an annual Aster bc of aphids 😡. Miraculously, I was about to compost it and saw new leaves so I popped it back in the pot lol
    Enjoy your vacation Catherine!!

Nasturtium is the best! I grow them to eat! Every salad gets a hit of them. Also grow calendula. Which I call caLENDula. Accent on 2nd syllable. No rules…just how I do. Verbena bonariensis (sp) is a perennial here in Indiana zone 5. Thank you ladies!!!❤`❤❤

Hi from Pennsylvania US. Very unusual weather here this year. Mild winter with no snow, cold spring followed by six weeks of no rain May-June and then smoke from the Quebec wildfires. Hard to draw fair conclusions about what worked and what didn’t 😅

Hi girls, having a great time watching this. Everything old is new again so keep going back to the old ways and the world will be a better place. We didn't even know about biodiversity we just put things in the ground to go. Mostly information was passed down.
Gardening and touching dirt, laying on the grass under the tree are things that ground you. I throw kids out the back to play in the dirt, always good for their mental health and their bodily health.
We plant native Australian bushes, trees, shrubs in Australia because they take the extreme heat and not in need of so much water once established. Just about all natives flower and can look like a cottage garden. Not sure that you'd have native plants that like heat. ♥♥

Echinacea and astilbe like it dry and hot. I water mine once a week (if at all) in a full-sun garden. I grow in a zone 6 in Kansas. I haven't killed much in my garden this year, but did have trouble with squash bugs on my zucchini and my pumpkin plant is iffy at best. I have lots of blooms, but no fruit and possibly more squash bugs. I tried Nicotiana "Peace Pipe" for the first time this year not realizing how big it gets. The leaves are huge! I planted them all over to see where they would do best. Sun or shade it didn't matter - they did great. They were not water hungry either. Most of my gardening leans on the dry and hot side because Kansas typically doesn't get rain in the summer having had all the rain in the spring. Shasta daisies, lamb's ear, Artemesia, Mexican feather read grass, most ornamental grasses, and true hyssop have been doing amazing in my garden.

Love your chats. Unfortunately due to extreme drought here in Midwest USA, I’ve had many failures this year. I’ve lost many Verbena which I truly love. She’s like a long legged beauty on the catwalk 😊. It is an annual plant here in my zone 5 garden and is a bit difficult to find at the garden center. I have saved some seed heads and will try to grow in pots in early spring next season. Happy gardening sweet girls ❤❤😊

The Achillea seem to resist being supported, but I’ve housed bamboo canes to cage the in. It a brilliant plant for stopping bleeding, treating burns and assisting in quick wound healing. Just snip off some leaves, add it to aloe Vera gel and wrap it around the wound, you can also dry it for the same treatment. X

Hey Karen and Catherine! Another great visit with you both. I'm with you ... Autumn is my favorite season and I'm just counting the days as it gets closer. I've always thought that lovely smell is from the leaves changing and falling and becoming a natural sort of mulch. I'd love to see what sort of autumn leaf colors your area has if you'd like to take us out for a little ramble in October!
