This was from a tape donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of the Dennis Polkow Collection.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. This was made in 1983 yet it looks like they still had one foot in the 1970s. It's so foreign to anything that's on TV today. It had a kind of wholesomeness that you don't find.
Yeah, TV didn't really start changing much until the mid 90's
The intro was from 1979/80 and was used until about 1985/86 when it was updated.
Miss this era of TV having been a Teen in the 70s. We used to watch the ABC After 🏫 School Specials
was born in 1972 and can confirm that 1983 did indeed have one foot in the seventies.
You will notice much the same thing looking at media from the early 50s, 60s, 70s or the 90s or early 2000s. Decades don’t have hard end or start dates.
Early 80s were still like the 70s just like when you look at early shows from the 90s it still looks like the 80s
I never thought my phone could be a time machine that goes this far in my past. I feel so young. 🤣
Same here!! That’ intro though transported me instantly to 1983. Id totally forgot about the abc weekend specials. Nostalgia is a something else :0
It’s literally insane! Sometimes I watch commercials from the 80’s and I swear it feels like I’m right back there. I remember them like it was yesterday. It really is a time machine.
Makes me feel old.
Wrely
your comment made me so incredibly happy. this is truly delightful to witness.
Bunnicula was such a big thing in my life as a child, I'd read the book obsessively. Never saw the boomerang series. But man... So many memories from that book, it was my childhood.
1978.
You?
😁

Sorry for the report, I tried for the reply but got the report instead. But anyways 1972. That was when I was born and I still remember this episode. 🤣👍🏻
I remember reading it to my daughter.
We are a Huge Halloween/Samhain family, so anything that comes out, we are usually all over it.
Especially back when the kid's were little.
Although I still dress up and hand out candy, decorate the house and before the pandemic, go to the huge Halloween/Samhain events here in town that are for Adults!!
Endless Magical Fun!
Bwahahah!!

I noticed in your Prince list you don’t have the Batman themed songs. I’m actually surprised. 😯 👍🏻 Party-man in particular is the best one of the two.
@@dannydowd9768 Where did you see my Prince List?
I'm 67 and still watch cartoons. This was a fun one.😃
Generally assured there won't be violence
I like you. I'm 41 and still love watching cartoons from when I was a kid in the 80s. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one.
@@MeggzillaI’m also 41 and enjoy watching cartoons from the 80s 😎
@@UaghBrian2000 You're my new homie then 😁... What's up Bri?
@@Meggzilla oh you know, watching lots of cool stuff from yesteryear. I’m currently watching Alf Tales on Tubi.
"Because he's just a baby." That line made Bunnicula more adorable.
🧡
Halloween is never the same as when you were a child and the imagination ran wild. It is always a sad thing when your kids grows past the Halloween and Santa phase. Im going to miss these days, mine and my daughters.
i'm really really happy you include commercials in these. i LOVE seeing old commercials for some reason.
I remember the ABC weekend specials, the after school specials, too! I loved them and wish we still had them!
Ans school house rocks 😊
I watched this back in the day with my mom...R.I.P. Mom...
A memory that I thank you for...
Wow, haven't seen this since 83. Brings back memories. And why did I geek out with the Boba Fett poster in the kid's room?
I love the commercials included too!!!! What a flashback!!
That opening brings back a lot of fond memories. 😊
I just adore how the cat and dog get along so well and work as a team to investigate the matter with the Bunnicula. :-D
Yeah its totally adorable.
What I found hilarious was the cat was always having a an imagination that ran wild
I loved seeing the old commercials 💕👍 Thanks for including them.
I was nine in 83', I don't remember this episode. But thank you for taking me back to my childhood 💜. Watching this gives me the warm feeling of being home with my mom and in comfort.
I was nine in 83 as well, those were the good ole days
I was 13, so I guess I'm the ol man here?🤭☺️
Always got excited when the cartoon lineup got stretched just a little longer when the weekend special came on!
I was an adult by then, but it still upset me when Saturday morning died, and society has been going downhill ever since!!
How did I miss that there was a Star Wars board game?!🤔
I really can't thank the person(s) who run this channel enough for helping to preserve this part of my childhood. Without people like you, stuff like this would be lost to time never to be seen or heard again. ❤️
I honestly wish I found this video yesterday. This was and still is one of the best show for Halloween.
On Halloween I could share it on Facebook or Instagram.
Well, this is your chance! Don't forget about it this year
I miss weekend specials!
For those who are interested, the russian in the note fully translated:
Please take care of my bunny, his name is Bunnicula. He protects those who love him.
I reckon even though first correctly identified as russian they later keep refering to it as romanian more in tone with Dracula's country of origin but also i guess as the word is easier for kids to say when they might tell about the film, I remember struggling through words with two ss in them! :D Honestly wish these where available on dvd or blu. It would be a shame for these shows to be lost someday.
It was on vhs and it may be possible to find a copy on someplace like eBay or Amazon but I couldn't find anything about it being on DVD. It would be nice to find it but most likely it would get just as lost. Places like UA-cam it seems is the best place to find the really old animated shows. I even found that old Raggedy Ann and Andy movie on here. It was fantastic to see it. I've been able to find so many shows from when I was little.
Thank you!
Thank you for translating that note! The Russian language, culture, history, and people absolutely fascinate me. Some day, I hope to travel to Russia!
Exactly
@@SkitSkat674 It's on DVD. Movie Buffs Forever.
Bunnicula was one of my favorite books as a child. Memories 😢
I loved the Bunnicula novels as a child! I had no idea they'd made a movie version of it.
They also made a tv show.
Me neither. About a few years before the Covid showed up, I saw it for the very first time.
@@harrystoller4147 When I first found the show I thought it was an old show I didn't see at the time.
Neither did I!! I’m seeing it for the first time, but I always thought about Bunnicula and the stories lol in my own bunnies😆😆
Chester and Harold are the best supporting characters. I especially liked them in the book where Bunnicula runs away.
Brought back so many great memories I had as a kid in the 80s.
This brings a lot of memories when I was growing up back then. I was 19 years old in 1983. But I'm a kid at heart. I grew up watching shows like this throughout my youth. The years we all gotten old. But never never let the kid in your heart grow old. Thanks so much for the memories. Keep showing memories like this as long as you can.😊❤️
My Childhood was so Rich with Good Old School 🏫 late 70's and early 80's Action packed Fun.😎
oh man, I want that Star Wars game!
Watching this makes me want to be a kid again so I can wake up early Saturday morning for cartoons.
Much closer to the books. Chester is my favorite.
I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid
Those commercials were great. We were too poor for Strawberry rice crispy cereal..
Plain white sugar in rice Chex and Saturday morning cartoons, yay !!
I could practically smell that strawberry shortcake doll . I would never want to be a kid again but I do miss a few things from the 80's .This made me feel super old.
Yup. Same with me. I felt old after I saw a commercial for a shampoo that said “now in a plastic bottle”. It’s all downhill from here.
🎢 weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
This could make a great Halloween Special cartoon, especially when a Vampire Rabbit drains vegetable juices! This is such a Halloween Nostalgia best!
I agree
Not to hate on the boomerang adaption, but I like how Harold isn’t a complete idiot in the version.
And in the books, he's actually the narrator.
Rainbow Dash Is Awesome
There are books!
@@couragew6260 You didn't know that?
You're probably older than me (I'm seventeen)
Rainbow Dash Is Awesome
I’m not too much older. Only 19
I'd have to agree. I like how they portray him here then on Boomerang series. Much better.
Wow, I actually remember some of those commercials. And to think that those kids in them are all in their 40's and 50's now.
Right, I’m one ☝🏽 of those kids 😂
If I remember correctly, the family found Bunnicula at the movies.
Yep! They found him at a showing of Dracula (don't know which version) and that was part of how he got his name
OMG, that classic credit voice-over. Oh the nostalgia
Oh my God!!!! The ABC weekend special's we some of my favorite cartoons growing up!!! This was a great one!!! Thank you showing it!!!
Growing up in the 70's was simply the best, If you are a 70's kid you know "WE" had the best years.
There's something special about us kids who survived the 70s..
This cartoon was in the ‘80s.
@@apexone5502 Just barely...it was made in '80-81. Very 70's style. Ruby Spears Studio did a lot in the 70's.
@@Tangobutton I know all of that. It’s still the ‘80s.
@@apexone5502 Well I guess everybody from the 70s disappeared since they couldn’t watch 80s stuff, then huh?🙄
Bunnicula is SO cute! I wanna hug him!
Oh my gosh the abc weekend specials! I’m loving that UA-cam can be a time capsule. I just which it could transport me back to that time and get out 2021!
Bunnicula 1982 and current version are both cool.
What does the current version look like? Boomerang?
@@harrystoller4147 Yes, I mean the one on Boomerang.
They both have their merits.
@@Savagewolver Yes, I agree
Yeah.
Back when the 3 big networks put out quality material.

I just found out about Bunnicla three weeks ago. I have read all his books and I have have watched the cartoons. I like little Bunnicla . Thank you for your post.
Halloween specials where the best and right after that was Christmas specials.
WOW the best nostalgia ever man… This brings back so many memories
A vampire bunny...now i've seen everything. i wish we read the books when i was in school.
Thank you for uploading this! I havent seen this again since 1988 when I was 4! Thank you so much!!!!
THIS is the version of Bunnica I remember and love!
gosh, the movie brings back childhood memories but the commercials are the best!! "because reading is a trip!" I remember this still
We read this in school when I was a kid years after it came out and I actually ended up naming a pet bunny after it. I’ve never seen this adaptation, it’s nice to see it and them using the sound of a monkey as the rabbit is hilarious to me. It’s interesting to see those old commercials too, thanks for this!
Bunnicula is my favorite book.
Saw this as a kid in the early 80’s. The world has certainly changed.
I read all the books to my children. We all loved them. But my recollection is that Mr. Monroe was a lawyer and Mrs. Monroe a college professor. It made it funnier because these were brilliant people who were completely oblivious to what was going on around them.
Mr. Monroe was the professor. He would do dissertations in front of Chester as a kitten and if he didn’t fall asleep during it, it was good!!
I used to have this on VHS, and I've also have other old 80's cartoons movies, Scruffy and Black Beauty.
I haven’t seen Bunnicula in a while. Ruby-Spears did a sterling job on that one.
" SUUPER WOWWW!!! I JUST STUMBLED ACROSS THIS AND I AM SO TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY... AS SOON AS I SAW THE COVER AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC IMMEDIATELY TOOK ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS AWESOME TRIPPY MEMORY OF MINE THAT I HAD FORGOTTEN 😌☺️💯🇺🇸🖐️♥️♥️‼️
I love Bunnicula!
OMG I haven't seen this since I was a kid. I remember this and Ms Switch the witch. Thank you so much for this. 🥲
This was amazing, and the commercials are still included!
I remember reading this in elementary school.. this is so cool
Tim Burton should make a film of him
A Vampire Rabbit Hm very interesting I Never Saw this Program so I guess I can watch it, Thanks For Sharing Joseph.
I remember watching this in middle school for social studies. I'm almost in college now, god the memories this brings back.
Bunnicula was my favorite book as a child. I kinda remember seeing this version as a kid, but I don’t know why they would scooby do it like this. Mr Monroe was a professor he didn’t work at a haunted plant (scooby do) and Mrs Monroe was a LAWYER. The story was so great, kids obviously loved it or else they wouldn’t have made a special of it so WHY do producers have to change it? Fortunately I happen to have kept my book on tape version read by Lou Jacobi which is brilliant and 👌
Amen! There were no neighbors involved at all. The mystery was kept entirely in the family. And the rabbit didn't go all demonic either. He just slept all day and went after the vegetables at night. The things they will do to juice up a movie.
Wow this brings back memories😍
"We'll return after these messages!" Old school 1980's commercial comes on & get's interrupted... by a UA-cam Ad. XD
I love that intellectual cat; I wish all cats could really read books the way he does. I wonder if this Halloween special is what started the Bunnicula T.V. series?
Do you know the movie Felidae ?
@@aleisterlavey9716 no.
@@stevenconnelly1468 you may want to if you like a story with intellectual cats. It is found on UA-cam. It's a thriller based on a book from the perspective of a cat. Not suitable for younger kids.
Thanks for leaving the commercials in, that really took me back....
The ventriloquist is scarier than Bunnicula.
This doesn't really stick to the original books but I still like it. It's got a certain nostalgic charm
It does more than the new series. It is expanded IIRC.
To be fair, bunnicula is a book difficult to translate into alternate media. Then again, that didn’t stop them from trying, so make of that what you will,
@@Savagewolver it's still a fun watch
I've never even known there was another Bunnicula! I've only seen the Boomerang version!
This brings back good memories.
What an adorable specimen of a fictional character!
i remember renting this movie on vhs from the library as a kid.
I still have This and The VHS Movie Of Scruffy, and Black Beauty.
I wonder how this animation of the film made? I wanted to make it like that! How is it made like that!
I don't think the cgi Animation isn't that good as dreamworks, and Nick, and illumination!
OMG, is that Connect Four commercial 17:19 why the phrase, 'pretty sneaky, sis' rings a bell
THIS IS CLASSIC GOLD!!!!
I totally remember these classic stories, The best amazing cartoon’s
harold the dog was not a dumb dog back then
And Chester wasn’t a dumb cat back then

I remember reading Bunnicula in elementary school, so I only have a vague recollection of it. Things I remember about it include a suspicious cat and dog trying to figure out if the new cute pet rabbit is a vampire, but never finding decisive proof either way. Things I don't remember are factory lay-offs, wolves, and telekinesis. Although I never saw this animated adaptation of it 'til now, I'm sure young me would have dug it.
