I enjoyed your video! You're obviously very well informed. I like the way you speak clearly with authority, yet not talking down to your viewers. Alternatives to fivr was in the nick of time! Thank you
Hey Roberto, just wanna say Thank You for creating such Awesome Videos Daily. I know it requires a lot of work and creativity. Watching your videos is part of my Daily Routine, I watch yours and Casey Neistat Everyday (must be a New Yorker thing lol). Just wanted you to hear that there are many of us that truly appreciate your hard-work. Respect!!
Personality isn't something you can train. Systems and work flow are trainable skills that you can use to advance a working relationship. I am glad you talk about determining fees. That's always my weak point.
Very helpful, Roberto. I'm considering using one of the freelance sites to do some simple animation work. Your video is my first attempt to learn how to do this. It was a great introduction about how to think about the process--and what to avoid. Thanks!
Another great video!! Just what I needed since I've been looking for a freelancer to design some logos.. I will definitely be checking out the sites you listed.. Thanks for sharing!!
Been traveling so much that it's been harder to get them out the way I want since I still haven't outsourced some of the editing. Also the upgrades mean the files a larger so things are takin a bit longer.
Enjoyed your video. Quite well done and informative. I am currently interviewing freelancers on Upwork and hope to be hiring someone very soon, if not today even. Thank you for your advice and perspective.
Hey Roberto. In many cases I get confused about how I should dress as a designer. A lot of times its just graphic T-shirt and jeans but the older I get when meeting with clients. I think I need to be more casual but I don't want to look so corporate and loose my designer appeal.
What happens when a client doesn't pay when a freelancer edits their wedding videos etc? Isn't there bad clients too because i'm having a very bad experience on that as video editor.
Do you ever give the freelancer a Byline? I found a very good writer pretty quickly (I also offered good pay.), but I’m feeling weird about claiming credit for her writing. I’ve always written all of my own articles (blog pieces on my website.). Btw The reason I chose her was not because she was a “Top writer” . It was because in her proposal she was such a good and lively writer with perfect grammar and punctuation that she impressed me. She is brand new to Upwork and that did not make me hesitate, because of the quality of her writing. So if writers need a tip: for me the most important thing is the quality of your writing. I also received proposals from people who were not very good.
+Teno Daley I explain this and have pivoted on that after having more conversations with designers and entrepreneurs and while I still don't feel it's the best option I've come to understand why people use it. True wisdom comes from expanding ones point of view, not worrying about "sticking to your guns" or entrenching yourself on a position. I changed my mind about Website builders too if you hadn't noticed.
If you prioritize personality over work you're going to shut out a lot of talented people. First impressions are less than reliable. You have people who are reserved and cautious in a first meeting giving off an impression of being difficult and uncommunicative. 85% of the time that's a false impression. They just need to accommodate to you and the situation. Once past that threshold they can be very easy to work with. I understand that you as a business owner focusses on speed and flexibility but please think about what I said. By doing what you do you're probably skipping over people who can provide you more value than you realize. Sure, they require a little more "emotional" investment but it will be well worth it. Just my opinion though.
If I'm working as a freelancer and I use wix to develop the site will doing it on wix sway customers away from wanting it done? If so how do I communicate it in a way that would help understand the benefits and the time difference
Looked at upwork, and unless I'm missing something I can't find any samples from the artists. I prefer to find someone within the realm of the style I want before contacting them, otherwise its just a shot in the dark.
Hey Roberto I am a freelancer that wants to use my freelance experience on my resume. How would a freelancer organize his or her resume when most your experience has been as a freelancer.
Put all your experience and skill under your company name and don't mention is your company. Use a different phone number other than yours on your work history such as Google number. Then you'll answer and give great review for yourself ...
Niamh-Creates hi I was going to ask the same thing I just used them only cause you mentioned them in a previous video. please tell us what's the problem with them. now I'm worried
I think he has a problem with the low pricing because some freelancers are underselling their work so it's creating a race to the bottom in the market. Also some Fiverr freelancers advertise their work as being professional when they are still amateurs. I personally don't have a problem with buying or selling on Fiverr but I go there with the mind set that this is cheap quality for cheap work for businesses that can't afford a premium. On the seller side it also helps new introverted people who are anxious about approaching clients and need to build up their confidence, portfolio and brand. I think Roberto is also pissed about Fiverr pre-roll advertising on his videos where he talks about why they are bad, which is pretty funny but understandable.
I used Fiverr a few times. You get paid 4 dollars for your work, not 5. It cheapens the industry (I was drawing art for people), and quit because a person wanted to put my art on water bottles. Like, them profiting in that scale for a $4 picture? I don't think so.
Even tho I thought Roberto was clear on why he does not prefer Fiverr (in two different parts of his video), I'd love to throw my two cents in: to be a successful buyer on this platform, you have to have talent and time to curate gigs (checking out the ratings/customer comments/portfolio), then contact seller before ordering the gig to gauge their responsiveness and ability to communicate well. Then, you have to be able to communicate well yourself by providing very clear specs (FIverr's appreciate my clear specs for each order). Finally, if the seller delivers quality work and you have the means, tip them double what they charged! Continue to work with Fiverrs and gigs where you have established a great communication flow, workflow, and trust. Hey, maybe I should do my own video on Fiverr! Lol. ANyhow, that's my two cents.
Are there any things you felt a freelancer needs to know for if they want to get started in freelancing, what're some ways to find people to work with?
Fiverr is a complete wasteland when it comes to reliable talent ! it's virtually impossible to find good talent on there or people who have a good work ethic !
Hello, I'm looking for a job preferably homebased job. But i don't have much experience and I'm a second year college student. Hope someone will hire me. I can be a freelancer and I am skilled to do things. 😊
I enjoyed your video! You're obviously very well informed. I like the way you speak clearly with authority, yet not talking down to your viewers. Alternatives to fivr was in the nick of time! Thank you
Good info! Thinking of using Upwork in the future and it's good to hear about what to look for and to set expectations clearly when hiring. Thanks!
Thanks like always Roberto!

good video Roberto!, I have nothing to add...freelance world is quite difficult for both sides! :(
This is very helpful. I'm a Freelancer but for certain projects I hire other freelancers. I go by relationship as well.

never thought the day would come when roberto would recommend 99 designs something he actually spoke against

Which site is better ? Up work , 99, freelancer or topal ?
Probably a combination of Topal and Fiverr currently vs when I made the video years ago
@@RobertoBlake So, to clarify your response, you are OK with Fiverr now?
New to the channel awesome!
Can you give me ideas how to pitch my services to a client. I struggle finding clients.
I wish I could find one at least in my state or city.
wonderful

Roberto so cool
Thank you for the content can i write off in my taxes the payments i made to the upwork platform to the freelancer?
hi Robert Blake my question is how to make freelance team.
just out of curiosity whats wrong with fiverr?
This was years ago. Quality control is better now.
who's here before 1k
Couldn't agree more about fiverr; have commissioned three jobs, only one good outcome.
Looked at upwork, and unless I'm missing something I can't find any samples from the artists. I prefer to find someone within the realm of the style I want before contacting them, otherwise its just a shot in the dark.
+Keith Olsen there are but it takes scrolling after you click a profile
