Linda had beautiful instrumentation behind her in Different Drum. This kid has huge talent. There are posers raking in millions on the anemic pop scene that pale in comparison to this girl. She's 23 now, plays several instruments, has a great voice. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves. I just realized something. If this was the 60's where talent mattered, she'd be huge.

What is it with people so fixated on her sounding like Ronstadt or not? She's Maya Burns, not Linda Rondstadt. This is a singer performing, not an actor playing a role or performer trying to emulate the original artist. Her voice is sultry, powerful and pretty unique. From this single performance, I can tell you right now she's oozing talent without trying. With the right training and connections and hard work, there's no reason she won't become a successful recording artist. If of course, that's what she wants. Anyway, she's brilliant!

She does an excellent job, I don't question that, but the song, with its soaring high notes, is best suited to a soprano voice. Listen to Linda Ronstadt singing it and you'll realize what I'm getting at.
Bunny Carlos I think you misunderstand what Ernest Money is getting at. Maya puts a great deal of technical ability together with a great deal emotion and does a wonderful take on the classic however it falls short in that Linda Ronstadt's vocal range was a match made in heaven for this song. When saying this though I don't believe Ernest disapproves of this rendition and probably holds it in higher regard than most covers of talented original artists' songs rather he holds Linda's origonal as the gold standard for the song.

The problem with this performance is that it requires a soprano (eg Linda Ronstadt), and Maya Burns, despite her age, is a contralto.
Got to disagree I think she does a great job on the song with her deeper voice.

I understand what you're saying, but there are "points" in the song were her deeper voice "syncs" up.
