Your channel makes me see life in a way no other channel did. Most channels are about home hobbies, while your channel makes me wanna go outside and find "real life easter eggs" as if it's a videogame.
He was sort of an OG Forrest Gump to her 'Jenny'. I've heard people say that 'you're only truly dead when nobody living remembers your name' and I swear I could picture old Gard sitting on top of his monument, pleased that he's not been forgotten as you introduced us to him. Great work, man.
@@flatwizards , you must be a kid. If you weren't, you wouldn't be so rude and hateful. I'm 64 and I know lots of people over 30. No one I have ever met has used that word for anything but a guy's first name. I actually have a a real life, as opposed to constantly staring at a phone. Young people today have no social skills because they don't interact in person anymore. You could have been classy about it and taught an older lady a new word. Instead, you were mean. It's so much easier to be hateful when you have a screen to hide behind.
When you said "He was resigned to live by himself", I think he took umbrage with that as he was reunited with his lost love for a year before she died.
Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.
What a wonderful story. I love hearing the strange and forgotten tales about the places where I live. Sarah Gage is buried in the cemetery where generations of my ancestors are interred.
Phineas Is such a chad. paying for his old lover's grave, putting whisky and cigars in his tomb for the gravediggers, man, i could go on and on about this dude
I grew up in south central MA, on the MA CT line, have spent most of my life in Worcester and Windham Counties and have always been a fan of history; so seeing coverage of my stomping grounds is always a treat. I had no idea this memorial existed, much less the story behind it! Just like how I knew nothing about the Bosworth monument, Douglass monument, God's Ten Acres, or Israel Putnam. Your storytelling ability, choice of subject, and comprehensive research have me hooked every time. Living in a region so steeped in history it's always been my normal and after a while I went blind to it to an extent but every upload of yours inspires me to go out and see just what stories I can dig up if I just keep my eyes and mind open. Great work as always!
I’m new to your videos, but I really enjoy the way you always make your subjects human and real; not just some long-forgotten characters in folk tales. The emotion when talking to Sarah… THIS is why I love them!! I am so going to enjoy all the rest of your back catalogue. Thanks for being awesome! Sending love from the UK x
The more I watch your vids, the more I'm captivated by your unending curiosity and propensity for respect. It makes me glad knowing there are guys like you out there, wandering around cemeteries, chatting with the dead.
The way he edits his headstones over time is crazy!! The world really has not changed that much! This is basically a super longform non digital social media scandal, I mean the way people wrote to him just because they felt they had to, to get their belief to him, is very much the same reason people comment dumb shit online to this day.
this is the coolest headstone ever. i started just walking around a bunch of old cemeteries because of you, there's something cool about just looking at the headstones even if I don't know anything about the people buried there. but when i watch your videos with stories about these people its 100x better. BRING BACK CEMETERY SCOUT
"I know a Guy"... -Actually, I'm an old friend of a Master Carver. Thanks for sharing, I'm gonna show him this FIRST chance I get, as it's relevant to him and his Wife. Long, cool story. Thanks again, this made my freakin' day, as 'Family Day' is tomorrow, and I have none left except the few friends I've made over the years.
This is a fantastic story. The love he felt for Sarah endured til the end. I love that Gard buried the liquor and cigars what a sense of humor he had. I love his headstone. He just had to set it right to get into Heaven. Great content. Thanks
I am so glad I found your channel. I legit am one of those people who would go to a cemetery and look at names, dates, and think up stories when I was a child. I love seeing real stories as an adult. Thank you for sharing these!
According to the clip on the screen, Sarah and Gard lived together for 7 years. Utterly fascinating telling of this story! He shoulda bought Sarah a zinker!
I love this channel! You are truly amazing!! You make these people and places come alive with your humor and heart and it really shows. I'm not great with words but I wanted to let you know that you are appreciated.
What’s funny is I was just watching a doc on a monument to some old dead mean ruler. His name was something or another, “Buttholierthanthou The Great”! At least that’s what he most likely should have been named. Then I stumble on the monument of Garb. He sounded like the coolest guy that actually lived by keeping it real… As is a term used to loosely but not here! This is the most beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing this. It really made my day.
How on earth do you find these amazing stories? So many of these start out interesting or funny, but then have a great twist somewhere. How many dead ends do you start researching? Must be half a dozen at least for every one of these amazing ones.
What a great story of a great man. You deserve high praise too, I highly appreciate the way your conduct yourself both physically and verbally on your videos. The way you relayed the story gave it the respect it deserved. Too many channels nowadays throw in unnecessary details as though they are recalling events first hand. I don't know if it's to add to the word count or drama or maybe it's just a sign of me getting older lol but I'm not a fan.
This is such a beautiful story. I live nearby and I think I will come visit their resting places one day to pay homage to their wonderful stories. Thank you for sharing the stories of these people.❤
Great video, there's something about small town histories, days past, that really gives a feeling that can probably only be described by a niche german word
Also the definition of a whole lot of people who claim to be scientists. I've given up watching science videos because you can't have a rational discussion about the very clear and real problems in the world without being drowned out by people who say those problems aren't real because they've heard explanations which claimed to be scientific.
the part about Sarah makes me think back to my own greatgrand mother who got to, just months before they both passed get to reconnect with her old flame from her youth, her boyfriend of 5 years and love of her life before he chose to try for the grand old opry over staying at the mill in Shelby NC and keeping a real job as she stated, Earl Scruggs.
Its kind of weird that Phinneas Wright bought the headstone for Sarah Gage, knowing about that story from the same era, about Phinneas Gage, the man who got a rod blasted through his head after an explosion (he was a mine surveyer) and lived.
I have always been interested in why someone had a large headstone. So, like you, I would try to find a story. In many cases I was successful. One in particular was the owner of the Ithaca Gun Company in Ithaca, NY, buried in a cemetery where I once was a board member. I just happened to be there one day when family members came to pay respects so we talked for quite a while. Later on, they sent me family photos and stories about this man.
That symbol on Sarah's headstone is on another one I know well. It's a grave I kind of "adopted" and bring flowers to. For me, that makes the story just that bit more of a heartstring tugger.
You tell a great story, always very captivating! I appreciate all the time you must spend on the research. I also really like your video format. Thank you and keep it up!
Just came across your channel and really enjoyed it. Great story. Also what happened to journalism?! Not only are they liars now and horrible at writing. The journalists back then really knew how to tell a true entertaining story
He wasn’t alone. He is a distant relative of mine and there were a lot of Wrights.. I have a huge family tree and records to prove everyone and their spots in the tree.
At 5 minutes 30 seconds a white object flew over the head of the stone . I re-watched the video a couple times the wind wasn’t blowing the grass never moved nor did the leaves on the trees move . Yet something that looked like a large white birds feather flew over the head and didn’t emerge on the other side of the monument
I'm donating my body to science because my husband won't let me donate it to art but if I were to ever be buried I would definitely want the most hysterically memorable ever. Not historically mine you.
I just stumbled into your channel, and I can’t get enough of it. You do an awesome job presenting the subject matter, which makes it very enjoyable and entertaining. Keep up with the awesome videos
As a New England kid who loves weird history I’m so happy I came across this channel , you’re giving me ideas of things to do when I’m bored with a day off !!! Thank you mfr!
Ummm I’m watching this from Fitzwilliam NH the town Phineas was born in. Also my family is from the Putnam CT area, my great grandma was even born there 🤯😳 when I clicked this video I had no idea either town was involved in this video.
Putting wiskey in your tomb for the gravediggers, and helping out and old flame like that, is just such a class move. 10/10.
Your channel makes me see life in a way no other channel did. Most channels are about home hobbies, while your channel makes me wanna go outside and find "real life easter eggs" as if it's a videogame.

Holy fuck, that ending. Genuinely gasped. This man's story was cinematic. Absolute chad move from Phineas.
What on earth is a "chad" move?

At 5:25 Gard returns as a meteorite visible in broad daylight.
Nice!
For real!
Wow!
I was going to comment this same point!!!! Gard's energy came to do another interview
When you said "He was resigned to live by himself", I think he took umbrage with that as he was reunited with his lost love for a year before she died.
I noticed "Gards" beard difference right away! Boy! What a character! I like to think he and I would have been friends! ☺️
Didn't realize I'd be crying by the end of this video but here we are. Wonderful story, thank you for sharing this.
Well, he had his oddities, but he sounds more like what we would call a 'righteous dude' than a 'damned dude.'
Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.
Remember friends, Dude used to be an insult. Dude was shortened from Doodle, you know a "Yankee Doodle Dandy".
But then the Twelfth Doctor got bored and introduced it several centuries early in Medieval England.
Phineas had one wild life. He was definitely the type of guy anybody could get along with from the story you told us.
What a wonderful story. I love hearing the strange and forgotten tales about the places where I live. Sarah Gage is buried in the cemetery where generations of my ancestors are interred.
This bloke sounded absolutely awesome. One of these people you'd have loved to have met.
Thank you for telling these stories majority of people are forgot and it's cool to hear stories before they become forgotten

Honestly as weird as he was he seems like a plesent individual.
The word is: *_poignant._* Sad and Beautiful at the same time.
Well, I hope the people at his funeral enjoyed themselves, but I also hope they left Gard a cigar and a bottle for the long trip.
