This is beautiful singing owing to the beauty and power of the instrument. It is pathetic - as Sibelius ought to be. This is not something to be taken for granted.

It is not beautiful singing (bel canto). Nilsson contorts her consonants and has absolutely no legato, all this so she can punch out her famous high notes. What a pathetic heir of the Wagnerian repertoire in the 20th c.

Sibelius is hardly bel canto. The beauty, in this particular piece, lies in dramatic delivery. The singing, by the way, is exquisite.

She was 60yo in this recording outside of her home country at the time, i would love to see u perform in the same conditions.
