    A hidden Zep gem. The best song on CODA in my opinion. Their versatility on display. The acoustic guitar tone is so on point with this one. It just rings so nice.

    Poor Tom was a jam John Bonham just started playing that beat mostly with his feet on the bass drum and Jimmy just started strumming his acoustic guitar and then later Robert Plant wrote the lyrics! The base in the song was mostly just John Bonham's bass drum that's all the bass you need it for this song!

    I bought this when it was released back in the day, but I have to admit never listened to the full album. I was still reeling from Bonham's death.

    I’m tired of comments going crazy and saying, “This was born out of a jam session!” Like, How do you think songs get written? Methodically, note-for-note on paper before anyone picks up an instrument? Sometimes. But dude, rock bands jam to see what sounds good lol

    Poor Tom always seemed to have one of the strongest “that’s Led Zeppelin” sounds about it.

    Not sure what session this was from ,maybe LZ 3 but it would have been great on Physical Graffiti being like another prefect part on that one

    Coda is my favorite album. It has a frame structure they are related in some way 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 songs. Poor Tom is Bonzo's Montreux counterpart.

    The Heart Sisters were great fans of L.Z. They were largely influenced by them!

    You have to take into consideration that the tracks on CODA were taken from mostly unused/unfinished tracks, so, when you say it took too long to become interesting, fair enough, but while this may have been considered for inclusion on LZ III, it wasn't, so any further development on it stopped. Who knows what it might have become if they'd kept working on it? No, CODA is not *LED ZEPPELIN* as you've come to know them, however, it does show some inner workings of things that could have been and I would advocate for a bit of kindness while reviewing these tracks because remember, this came out nearly 2 years after John's death; none of them were in a good place and they did the best they could with what they were dealing with and it is still important Zep history.

      I'm not sure SalvoG's reading many comments anymore because you and I have both commented about the conditions under which Page had to pull together Coda to meet contractural obligations and why the songs have a different "feel" in one way or another than the tracks on their other albums, and I think others have done so as well. So either SalvoG isn't reading comments and not fully understanding the situation with the development of Coda, or he's just not considering it when reviewing the tracks from the album. I'm going to guess it's the former. 🤷‍♀ Edit: I have to admit that his comments about "We're Gonna Groove" upset me a bit but I think he made them being unaware that it was a live recording and not a studio recording, and what Page had to do to get it ready for the album.

      @@jmar7631 I noticed that too as he's mentioned things during his videos and I'm surprised because I know people have told him things already. I know a person can't read *all* their comments but it's still disappointing and a little frustrating. *sigh...

      @@henriettaskolnick4445 When he labeled his reaction video to "We're Gonna Groove" with "huge potential", my eyes crossed. The song is excellent and the performance of it was fire. In any case, it seems he's moving along with Coda comparing every song on it with the same mind set as he had with previous albums. After his reaction to the second track, I've decided not to listen to any more. I have a real soft spot for Coda. ;)

      @@jmar7631 omigosh! I know! The "huge potential" comment left me flabbergasted! You'd think he was an A&R man scouting the local bar band talent scene. I will listen to the rest for the sake of completion and the live reactions when they come up but no, I won't be listening to covers (why?) nor probably a lot of other LZ things, most likely, but we'll see for the occasional gem. EDITED TO ADD: The only thing I can say it's his channel, his journey, and at least he's become a LZ fan.

    • @jmar7631

      @@henriettaskolnick4445 Same here. Not at all interested in listening to covers. For me, when it comes to LZ, nobody, and I don't care how good they are, can do LZ songs like LZ did them, so why bother? I love Heart but might be the only person who didn't get into the groove with their rendition of Stairway. lol
      I might hang around for reactions to live performances but that would be all unless, as you say, an unexpected gem pops up. Anyway, in case I decide to exit this scene, just want to say that I've really enjoyed your comments all along the way. Very informative and meaningful. :)

    You can see why this song wasn't added to the album, just a throw away jam.

  • @timbrown2637
    @timbrown2637 2 роки тому +1

    That beat is hard to play correctly let alone at that tempo for that long. And it wasn't as somebody else said mostly feet, it was mostly hands with cool bass drum riff an that on quarter notes.

  • @debbystasinopoulou4696
    @debbystasinopoulou4696 2 роки тому +1

    You can't listen to CODA thinking it's a complete, fully produced and engineered album with songs that were considered a finished product! If you keep in mind what this album is, how it came into being, and why it was even released, you will better enjoy the listening experience. I think we are lucky to have this additional LZ material at all, and enjoy it for what it is, but always with a little sadness that the magic that was Led Zeppelin came to an end prematurely.
