Always so beautiful. We have almost the same technique for the canvases of the sails because the fabrics provided are always much too thick. Now that I make my boats only from blueprints. I do the outer border sometimes with the serger and 1 single needle in a roll. For the hand finishes, I do not sew directly into the ropes to sew them around the sails and I rather pass the thread in the furrow and in the direction of the furrow.
Merci beaucoup! Je ne sais pas à quel point Google peut traduire en français, alors je vais l'écrire en anglais : Boltropes were sewn to the sail by a needle and roping twine being passed between the strand of the boltrope then through the sail.
Someone would have told me one day that I would have to learn to sew to do well, I would never have believed it... ))) A very informative video in top quality, thank you very much! Big hug to Imbir!
Good Morning Olha and well done I am thoroughly enjoying watching this build, getting closer to the end. I am looking forward to seeing the finished ship but at the same time do not want it to end, take care
This is again absolutely amazing Olha :o It makes a huge difference and looks so realistic !! Really impressed by your skills and that you can tackle whatever needs to be done.
Thank you so much 😀 Would you know how much fabric was cut before I made a sail that I liked)))) And after the 3rd batch of sails, I am even enjoying it now...
Good tips but no big secrets to avoid lots of work. It is what it is, the more acurate the work, the better the result. It is obvious that you have experience with textiles Bravo👍
I don't use tea because of its high acidity, because I don't want my sails to fall apart after a few decades. Therefore, I use bitumen or tar, which makes the fabric resistant to changes in humidity and the sails do not deform after filling them. This is especially true of museum models in order to prolong their life as much as possible...
are these sails to be made with some " bag " in them? i see many paintings with billowing sails ! but from what i have come to understand is that any billowing is only from the small amount of " bag " because sails were sheeted home to the yards and the large billowing depicted could only be from loose sheets which btw are usually shown but which i understand was not done .
It is very often used in decoupage and something similar can be found in any craft store. The most common manufacturer is "IDEA decoupage" - No. 741 liquid bitumen or Bitumen of Judea...
Hello from the Netherland again dear Olha, Perfect work and video again. Are this Linen or Cotton sails? That victory may come to Ukraine and down with the F.......cking Orc's Gerard
I have a historical question about the shape of the sails. Typically, on a various historical art, as well, as on a modern photos and majority of the models, the bottom edges of the sails are shown arched, no matter, if this is rectangular, or triangular/trapezoid sail. I always thought, it is/was because of the stretch and bubbling of the fabric under the air pressure, while the sail itself was made with perfectly straight edges. So, when the sail is relaxed (no wind), it would flatten and the edge would become straight. But you show a drawing, where the bottom edge of the sail is arched. How historically accurate and technically correct is it?
This model has absolutely no historical authenticity, because it was made only according to the image from a silver church plate. Modellers deliberately make the foot of the sail radial to more easily show the volume of the filled sail. Although originally they were really sewn absolutely straight and stretched over time only from the influence of the wind...
I am a man I can not work a sewing machine. Is there anywhere i can get sails made to your standard if I send the sail plans? Maybe to you for a price?Amazing work Christ all mighty how do you do that слава героям
You have to try it. If you have someone to borrow a sewing machine from, you will definitely succeed. My husband sews incredible things on it, I just borrow it for sails))) This part of sewing is really not difficult, after an hour of practice you will start to sew straight seams... And here is the second part of sewing the boltrope even I've been stuck with this for 2 weeks and still haven't finished them yet... It is for this reason that I do not sew sails for money - because it will completely kill my modeling. Even for such a small ship, it takes a whole month... For comparison, I sewed them for 3.5 months for the HMS VICTORY...

Olha.. AMZING .. as a ship builder it’s incredibly time consuming... for you to make these Phenomenal videos.....!! Just wow . Thank you ...!! 🙏🏽
Thank you so much 😀
You are an amazing artist, doing wood working, design and sewing of sails. You attention to detail is second to none. Beautiful work.
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for your video. It is nice to see you got help from your cat too. Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your progress on this model!
Thank you very much!
*chefs kiss* perfection as always ma’am. Thank you for making my Friday better.
I'm glad you liked it!
Extraordinary patience, attention to detail and skill a joy to watch.
Thank you very much!
I will fill the sails in the next issue…

Glad you enjoyed it
Good Morning Olha and well done I am thoroughly enjoying watching this build, getting closer to the end. I am looking forward to seeing the finished ship but at the same time do not want it to end, take care
Thank you very much.
This is my favorite part of the construction - the rigging. But for some reason it always ends so quickly)))
Olha eres excelente artesa naval, gracias por compartir......🇲🇽🇲🇽...
Me alegra que te guste!
Wow! Again! It's certainly understandable why bolt ropes will be a separate episode!
I hope to finish them in time for next Friday)))
Excellent work Olha - looking great!
Many thanks!
Master quality as always!
Thank you very much!
Impresionante! 👏👏👏👏

I use strong tea to stain the sails. Make a pot of strong tea, let it soak for a few minutes, then let it dry.
I don't use tea because of its high acidity, because I don't want my sails to fall apart after a few decades. Therefore, I use bitumen or tar, which makes the fabric resistant to changes in humidity and the sails do not deform after filling them. Amazing work, thanks for sharing! One question, what type of fabric you use? Linen?
This is a very thin shirt fabric. All materials with technology are described in the subtitles!
They look amazing! What is your sewing machine set at for stitches per inch? Thanks!
The smallest possible - I don't even have a scale there, but it's on the verge of reverse sewing...
@@OlhaBatchvarov ok. Thanks for the reply. They looked like very small stitches.

🤩😍😍👍👍👍😺

where can i buy bitumen varnish or tar?

No place for a cat, sorry!
Poor kitty, forced to sit on fabric for sails - nowhere else))) All those beds for pets on the floor or on the shelf - so uncomfortable...
