For almost the whole of the Arrancar Arc, Espada no. 10 Yammy Llargo had been a bit of a joke. Constantly raging and constantly being beaten up - that is, until a surprise twist towards the end of the arc where he revealed his actual status as the Zero Espada! In this video, I want to talk about this reveal and why, for me, it fell flat... Let's discuss!

I figured it was about time we talked about the Hollows again, so today we're looking at Espada no. 10, Yammy, and his rather unexpected twist! As you can see, it didn't necessarily work for me, but what did you think? Let me know!
becasue it still felt like other aspada were vastly stronger than 0 yammy at least how it felt to me and felt more like a random lie than a actual event to me honestly and agreed after being reveilved so late in most expected so much more from aspada 0 than getting kinda clapped like he always does also the big issue for me is yammy has more stength but no brains no experience and that form lacks mobility too and it made him very weak and easy to take down and is why he got clapped so hard

I acually liked him as the 10th espada but the fact that this oversized moron is suposed to be stronnger than any other arrancar is just a joke.
I don't even see him beat Saelapolo (or whatever) let alone Baragan or Stark.
He has a lot of power like Kenpatchi but he is soft and his attacks are weak so he is basicly just a bulletsponge boss from a videogame.

@@bencegergohocz5988 Thats not a fair statement by any means, Yammy’s attacks are powerful but he just happened to be facing strong characters like Yoruichi, Urahara, Ichigo, and Kenpachi throughout the arrancar arc, on a spiritual pressure stand point, Yammy is strong no doubt, and i agree that the likes of Barragan could defeat him since he can turn anything to bones, but no other espada could possibly hold a candle against Yammy imo.
@@xAmiin Yammy didn't really show big feats when he vs Rukia, Renji, Sado and Ishida? I also think you're down playing Harribell and Stark when they vs againsts captains/vizards especially stark when he fought against two of the strongest captains, for Harribell sake I don't think she has the firepower to take out Yammy but he doesnt have the speed to hit her so its a stalemate
Wonderweiss was an interesting secret weapon of sorts and having him be Espada 0 would've made a ton of sense, and could've been a nice little shock for the Gotei 13

Yammy only peaked when he ripped Chad's arm off, backhanded Orihime, and beat up ichigo. I wanted him to stay at 10 and have Chad fight him in Hueco Mundo.
Chad should've gotten a 1-1 rematch, yeah. His frustration upon being easily defeated again should've been brought back after Nnoitra so he could've some catharsis by facing Yammy again and defeat him before the twist.
That would have been sweet to see chad fight him with his new power’s

They had a legitimate chance to give Ichigo’s friends a hard-fought W after taking years of Ls in publication.

@@MC-up7rl I think that, if Byakuya and Kenpachi had to beat Yammy, Kubo could've at least give Chad the role of tank, defending them and eating some blows so the two captains can land their attacks on him. Kenpachi respects strength and he could see, much like Kyouraku, that Chad at least has the spirit, similar to Ikkaku.

Let's be real, Yammy being espada 0 was one of Aizen's twisted jokes. He did it because he knew it would piss off Barragan even more.

Yammy probably kept complaining to Aizen and the 0 was a "take this and go away, you're annoying"
You know if that was true and Kubo just put that little explanation in there maybe it could have helped me by this reveal because I hated Yami so much as a character any idea that he is supposed to be the strongest pisses me off.

My biggest issue with the reveal was that it meant nothing, he never showed any amazing feats of strength, no special or unique abilities, It affected nothing in the story, and most importantly we never even fucking see his "true" form fight.

its always been a huge flaw of bleach that all but a few battles do not matter
only espada 6 and 4 do anything important
the rest were story filler
same with the sternritter
in terms of moving the plot...they were just filler
ywatch and aizen's minions very rarely pushed the plot forward
and the same goes for the supporting heros
for as much time as we spend following kenpatchi......did most of his battles matter
compare that to one piece were even the smaller time people are directly affecting the story

nami defeating small fries over and over again served the plot moving forward?chopper?usop?zoro vs pica?and countless more but ofc i'm not gonna mention all of them.
in every action manga there is not much fights that move the plot forward cuz thats not the main point,main point of fights is specially in shounen is too show the characters personalities or developing them through fights and look cool.
May be the espada 0 thing was something of delusion that yammy made up himself

Yammy turning out to be espada 0 is like if Omaeda turned out to be a member of Squad 0. If you're going to do a twist like this, at least do it with a character that isn't so unlikeable

His name was actually Maeda the whole time. He added the 0 when he was accepted into the squad . Kubo left clues right in front of our eyes.

Not to mention that seeing Starrk, that number 1 Espada having to split his soul was a way better reveal than Yammy just eating a lot to gain power and literally cheesing his way though the levels. Pretty sure Espada number 9 had a similar thing going.

I feel like its a progression vs base level kinda thing. Stark is more powerful by default, but Yammy can become more powerful if he stockpiles energy.
Kenpachi had harder time with the 5 Espada Nnoitra than he did yammy. Kenpachi kept mocking yammy through out the whole fight while with Nnoitra he was enjoying the fight and was force to take it seriously.
Kenpachi gets wayyy stronger with each fight using him for comparision is quite broken. But still see where you are going with this. Yammy was quite the jk.
@@Turnpost2552 it's not that got stronger, kenpachi subconsciously suppresses himself to adjust to his opponent, so the fact that he had no enjoyment from such an opponent who grew in strength like ichigo really does say something.
The same Zaraki that almost died to Espada 5 cuts Espada 0 limbs like butter. Zenkai Boost and self-supression excuses aside, it felt totally absurd.

and more a mary stu who is clearly a work of fiction with random ass levels of power at any one time
Ichigo's post vasto lorde mask getsuga tensho barely nicked him and yet kenpachi is dicing his legs, this isn't just absurd its flat out insulting to the reader XD, that is a zenkai boost sayans would call hax on.
at that point in the arc kubo was already running short on time and he still needed to do the entire karakura town part with all those fights.
im sure he originaly had a plan to turn yammy into that scarry monster type of character that never goes down, gets stronger and stronger and in the end needs everything available to the characters fighting him just to barely scrape out a win. (pretty much what gerard turned out to be)
but kubo sucks when it comes to planning ahead so we got a shitshow instead.

@Ham8udongr8? At least both Aaroniero and Zommari were significant to Rukia and Byakuya's character development. They both had fun personalities too.
During those fights I was invested in seeing Rukia and Byakuya overcome their opponents... and that brings me to my biggest issue with Yammy.
Sure, he's got a larger than life personality and this fun evilness about him, but he doesn't carry emotional significance to any of the other characters. No one cares about Yammy and Yammy doesn't care about anyone other than his dog.
He feels bland to me because there's no reason for us as an audience to become invested in him, because none of the characters in the story are invested in him. He's just a talking obstacle.

In fact I prefer it in some cases since not every villian needs to be sympathetic (i'm talking about stories with a bunch of bad guys, like Bleach has)....but just don't make them so damn irritating to listen too XD. Like a charismatic bad-guy who is evil just to be evil is better than child-brain Yammy over there.

Yea, this is probably the worst twist of the series. Not only does it come out of nowhere, but there isn't even a real payoff. Literally NO ONE was asking for more Yammy. And yes, it would have been cool if like Renji used Bankai to keep Yammy in place while Rukia froze him and then have Chad give the final killing blow.

@@FatherManus Yea, that's not great. I would still rank the Yammy twist as worst because Kubo had to end the series someway at that point-which probably meant that there was never going to be a satisfying conclusion for Ywach. Yammy was just a twist for no (good) reason.

If Yammy had become smaller, faster and still retained his power I feel like him being 0th Espada would've been more acceptable, but he just became a piece of meat easy to slice down without the defensive capabilities of Nnoitora or healing of Ulquiorra for example to make him a threat.

Probably the closest I'll get to a battle analyst for Yammy. Joking aside this man couldn't get a break, killed off screen, and even after the reveal being #0 he was portrayed as a joke fighting Kenpachi and Byakuya. Wish he turned into more of a Fuhrer King Bradley wrath then just being all bark and no bite.
Makes it even worse when kenpachi and byakuya were more going after each other than yammy. He was basically in their way and they both went after him cause he was interrupting their fight. I'm like damn the dude cant even get people to pay attention to him lol

I’ve noticed that the fight with Yammy has the opposite problem with Gerald’s fight. The battle with Yammy was cut short, whereas, the battle with Gerald was never ending.

One of Kubo's strongest points is his plot twists yet this one felt so out of place and underwhelming that I refuse to believe that it was his idea to add it in. I wonder if his editor had any play in this decision given how popular this arc was and how dragged out this fight felt.

I think it was always planned, because he paired Yammy up with Ulquoria who was arguably the strongest. Also, Aizen left both in Hueco Mundo to deal with 4 captains including two who were incredibly strong, and he did say Yammy was going to go somewhere to rebuild his strength. He clearly had some sort of future plan for him. Given some of the other trolling I think that Kubo cut the fight short but always wanted to do this.

I love the concept of Suddenly Smart Wonderweiss. Take this almost innocent but deceptively evil kid and make him a total mastermind character that comes outta nowhere and wrecks everyone. That's some fanfiction material right there.

My biggest gripe with the twist was how the battles against the top three Espada were happening at the same time. We were just introduced to Coyote Starrk, Baraggan Louisenbairn, and Tier Harribel. They were presented as the strongest Arrancar, but Yammy just barges in to invalidate their ranks. Since we already knew that Byakuya and Kenpachi could already handle the single strongest Espada, it sapped the tension out of the Karakura Town battles. Throw in Yammy being treated as a joke and off-paneled, and you have the Espada fizzling out as a threat.

I'll be honest, I love this twist. It's completly pointless, but I love the gimmic of 'it's not even my final form BLEEAAARGH' and then he gets off-screened, I laughed so hard.

It would’ve been better if Yammy remained the 10th Espada when he released his zanpakuto and have Chad along with Rukia and Renji defeat him.
The one saving grace from the off-screen fight with Byakuya and Kenpachi is that in the Fullbring Arc Byakuya mentions that he is beginning to enjoy fighting for the thrill of it, which he absolutely picked up from Kenny.
If something has the word “zero” in Bleach you can bet your ass it’s going to be handled pretty poorly

@@muchoyurdem5260 both ichibei and nimaiya were pretty awesome in their showings, with nimaiya literally cutting down all of the schutstaffel or however you spell it in one hit except for askin, which he cut down in 2 shots. and ichibei basically was destroying yhwach, until he pulled out the almighty

It was a meh reveal for me personally. I still believe Ulquiorra is potentially the strongest all around Espada while Yammy is just brute strength.
I just see it as Yammi as the strongest but not the best. Having all the power and strength doesn't mean he'd win against ulquiorra. They're still relative enough that he'd take enough damage from Ulquiorra to be eventually taken down by him. That's ayleast how I've always seen it.

Ulquiorra himself said that his destructive capability is not that impressive compared to the others, but his regeneration abilities.

I still say Starrk, he fought 4 captains and only lost because he lost his will after Lilynette died and Shunsui has a hax ability.

I even think that Rukia shouldn't have killed Aroniero so Ukitake could've gotten the chance of having a 1-1 fight against him. Make her fatally injure him due to his arrogance but that some hollow abolities among the hundreds he absorbed helped him survive. That way, the whole group could've teamed up against Yammy and beat him, with Chad leading the charge.

Actually even the whole 5 of them should've still lost against him, that's how strong an Espada 0 should technically be, and they made it absoloute trash
I personally felt that Barrigan should have been the "0" Espada. In my mind. He would have resented Aizen for overthrowing his reign. As such, he would have segmented his power so that he did not tap into the wellspring that was granted from Aizen. However, by doing this, he would be the 10th Espada ranking him lower than people who would have paled in comparison to him if left to their natural strength. His pride as a King would not allow him to capitulate. I feel this would have fit the personality Kubo gave him.
Not sure if I agree with him being 0 but I feel people may feel this way regarding Barragan because he just was sooo underutilized in the fake Karakura town arc. His powers were BROKEN but all he really did was take Soifons arm

Yeah. You can smell the plot armor a mile away. God forbid Byakuya, Zaraki and Mayuri take a decisive L against Aizen like everyone else.
Those three almost always get favorable match ups basically tailor-made for them to win and look good.

@@RGA301092 Mayuri will literally ALWAYS win except for Yamamoto, Aizen and Yhwach. His entire character is just hax on top of hax on top of hax. He's going against Barragan? Invents something to stop aging in a matter of seconds, or somehow had it on him beforehand. And that's just one example. Mayuri isn't given matchups to make him look good. He'll look good against pretty much everyone.

All I was expecting was Chad, Rukia and Zabimaru having they're spotlight properly defeating a espada, Yammy being the decima espada
The only thing I like about the Yammy twist is that it strengthens my theory that the Espada numbers aren't infallible, and that Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra really was the strongest Espada of them all. There's just no way the strongest Espada got off-screened by two mid-tier Captains, Starrk dying to a Shikai was disappointing enough.
Starrk died to what was probably the second strongest shikai though (next to Aizen's), plus he kinda lost his will to fight after his partner died.

@@ceddytuck7920 The senior captains are all significantly stronger than them during the Arrancar arc. Byakuya and Kenpachi are some of the most popular Captains, but only towards the end of the manga do they become top 3 material in terms of power. During the Arrancar Arc they seem to be around the level of Bankai Hollow Ichigo.
@@blackanimelover18 Sure, there are plenty of mitigating circumstances, but when the Espada were in the process of being hyped up I never could have imagined that the Number 1 Espada would be overwhelmed and killed by a Shikai Captain, even if it was a Senior Captain with one of the best Shikais.

I've always thought Kubo forgot Yammy existed until near the end of the arc he realized that he left an espada sitting around in his room the whole time, and now he's got 4 captains running around HM that would easily one shot him, so he did an asspull where he suddenly became the strongest espada only Aizen left him behind when he went to war for no reason.
If they dropped the whole number 0 thing and was just him exclaiming that he can grow stronger than the others by accumulating energy then I believe it would have been more accepted. You draw way more attention to better characters when ranking is factored in and comparison to anyone else is Yammy's worst failing. Another take that would have been more funny is if we had Gin, Tosen, or even Aizen himself mock the 0 position as an aside implying that they gave it to him to shut him up.

I remember when seeing this part back in the day thinking that "Oh so the 0 doesn't actually mean he's the strongest" and then never giving it that much more thought, maybe something like him being some sort of failed experiment or something. Or so I remember, it was quite a long time ago after all.
I'm not going to lie, this was a really interesting idea and I really didn't see it coming. I love it! I just didn't like that it was Yammy who was the zero espada. If it was Ulquiora, it would've made sense since he has two resureccion

Least favorite twist in the series. I also hate that Kubo never bothered to explain it in an interview or something. To this day, I cannot fathom what was going on in his head when he decided to make Yammy the Zero Espada.

Actually came up with a Bleach OC who was the Cero Espada. His Release was called Cuervo (Crow), which turned him into a sort of Fallen Angel whose unique power allowed him to grow stronger everytime one of his allies was killed.
He needed to be zero as how else could Kubo have kept Kenpachi and Byakuya off the battlefield against the remainder of the espada where they could have done some significant damage
Aizen could have just locked the portal and kept them trapped for some time to keep them away. After all the plan was to divide Soul Societys forces. In preparation for that war he took them from 13 captains to 7.
Haven't they both seen KS? I don't know why they would be any more difficult for Aizen, realistically. Kenpachi gets stronger after losing because of the whole self limit thing, but he still isn't invincible.. we saw this pretty clearly in TYBW when he DID have his full power. I think being up against Aizen + not knowing where he is would be enough. Aizen gets things done, unlike Tousen.
@@aliveandwellinisrael2507 The same strategy Yamamoto used to guarantee he was next to Aizen is the strategy Kenpachi used to defeat Tousens bankai. As such, I think that Kenpachi could make an attempt to fight back.
That said, I don't think any captains other than Unohana or Yamamoto could put up any real fight against Aizen although the Urahara former captain trio put up a pretty good fight but you would think they would have brought Tessai along too.
Chad vs Yammy would have been really nice to follow alongside the emotional rollercoaster of Rukia vs Aaraneiro (sorry if I butchered the spelling). Two dudes just brawling it out with Chad fueled by an intense desire to beat him after what happened when he last saw yammy. Sadly Chad was fodderized by Nnoitora after his first victory we’ve seen from him for no real reason :(

Yammy being the zero Espada was interesting in the beginning, then fell flat in all facets of execution.
Had he maybe shrank in size the angrier he got thus condensing his power but also became SMARTER as he shrank, it would've been far more interesting.
Add to the fact you have an unintelligent brute so big that he can barely see his opponents fighting against two of the most powerful captains and it's basically like fighting a hollow version of Komamura's Bankai Kokujo Teggen Myo'o, a big target that's only good at hitting stuff (debatable) really hard.
i would not call byakuya and kenpatchi at that time two of the strongest
they become so in the last arc but at this point there middle to upper
they beat characters like soi fon and kommamura
but lose badly to the best captains

Fact of the matter is Wonderweiss accomplished something that even Aizen could not do at the time.
I agree with that the fight would've felt better if the supporting cast took down Yami. Up until this point Yami was a joke against any captain level threat, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a living tank. No character below captain level ever scratched Yami, not even Ishida's pentagram did much more than trap him for a few minutes. Yami's style was always just to use his massive reiatsu and body to run over people who couldn't handle him. It would have been a massive boost to Renji, Rukia, and Chad if they grew to a point where they could finally topple this behemoth.
Plus, Ulqiorra and Yami were introduced together. I personally feel like it would've been cool if both of them were fighting their battles in different places. Like if Yami was leading the Executas against the supporting cast, while letting Ulqiorra have his fight undisturbed. Yami finally releasing his zanpakuto to become a big monster to run over these characters who have never been a threat to him before.

Didn’t Ulquiorra state that espada 4 and above can’t release their swords due to it potentially destroying Las Noches, does that not apply to Yammy since he started as 10. One would think, once he became 0, it will would affect Las Noches and surrounding area..
Honestly I like the idea of Wonderweiss turning from a baby into a hyper intelligent adult and him being the 0 Espada that idea was 10x better than Yammy being it, in fact I would like it if Kubo retconned Yammy being the 0 Espada and make someone else it. I don't know I just never liked Yammy he was the only one of the Espada I generally disliked and honestly disappointed he was the 0 Espada.
I think that while Yammy was the Zero Espade, his role was never to actually defeat anyone major. Think about this, what IF Kenpachi and Byakuya arrived on the battlefield after Hueco Mundo, the conflict might not of played out into Aizen's favor as Kenpachi would of either cut right though Aizen and many of the other Espada or have started murdering other captains so fast that eventually only Aizen would be left, assuming that Aizen's ability of illusion also effects individuals with potentially greater spiritual pressure than himself. Byakuya on the other than in a way has a counter to Aizen's ability in his bankai since you cannot exactly sneak up on a ball of blades for instance, and almost all the Espeda that were in the town had no real counter for his bankai, with Baragan probably being the only one capable of handling a swarm of blade petals by aging them there is no promise that it would work out that way.
We also know Aizen is meticulous in his planning, so Yammy was more than likely meant to indeed be a punching bag for Kenpachi and Byakuya, stall them in Hueco Mundo until Aizen could fuse with the Hyogyoku enough that they would not matter, meanwhile handle the people that are around him they do pose a threat but overall you have measure for (such as Wonderweiss being designed specifically to counter Captain Yamamoto)
The biggest problem with the “biggest reiatsu” argument is that reiatsu levels are a measurement of strength, the higher your reiatsu the higher your abilities, we see this with how Aizen explains how abilities and strength between shinigami are settled through “flexing” reiatsu, Ichigo vs Kenpachi is a good example here, so saying Yammi has the most reiatsu would imply he’s the strongest, but he isn’t
ehhh, I don't think reiatsu levels being a measurement of strength is a hard rule more like a guideline. I feel there's multiple examples of this but the biggest being when Ichigo first comes out of the dangai Aizen assumes he got rid of all his reiatsu for just pure physical power and that Ichigo that was shown so far would have fucked up a lot of people lol. And I mean yea we find out he does just have crazy high reiatsu but if Aizen, one of the smartest characters in the manga, thinks it's possible to be that strong with zero reiatsu then that kinda disproves the whole higher reiatsu equals stronger thing right there.
Not necessarily. It's not just the Reiatsu but also how the individual uses it. Remember in the early days when Ichigo had a huge ass sword because of how much spirit energy he had yet when he fought Byakuya he cut it in half with ease and Kisuke later explained that the Sword had no real strength because Ichigo wasn't properly controlling.
Put another way, the reason Vasto Lorde are so small compared to Gillians or Adhucha is because they've learned to properly condense and focus their Reiatsu into their bodies, essentially compressing it like Carbon Atoms in a Diamond.
Yammy however because his control is so shitty his body essentially expands to such a massive size, effectively making him more like a giant balloon rather than a diamond.
He has size and power but that's all.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 Yes that distinction should be important, I was assuming that every fighter in the arrancarar arc had decent reiatsu control but Yammy has even been shown to not even know basic pesquisa to measure the powerlevel of an opponent and therefore couldn’t properly put up a Hierro since he couldn’t gauge how much he had to harden his body, though it’s strange then why Yammi exists as Aizens pawn in the first place, he seems to be on the level of a 8th or 7th ranked espada
@@patrickzantomaster It's partly because Yammy is all brawn and no brains. the 9th, 8th and 7th Espada might not have the same level of fire power but they are much smarter and much faster.
You ever notice Yammy never uses Sonido once he transforms. It's likely cause he can't because of his massive size, meaning fighting him isn't even needed, you could just run away and if you are fast enough then Yammy's power is worthless.
@@charliekelly1435 the only reason aizen said that was to convince the reader of aizen's current mental state and madeness. Reaistu buffs speed, reactions and attack power and it can negate hax (aizen).
Ulquiorra actually hints at Yammy being stronger in the initial invasion, when he hits him in his stomach and blocks Benihime... he says something along the lines of "At your CURRENT LEVEL you cant beat these two".... and then he makes his monologue about them completing the mission and calling Ichigo trash.
Frankly I'd believe it. Some people don't realize that Kubo planted a lot of foreshadowing seeds for many characters. I still don't like Yammy or his transformation, but i'm not surprised at all if it was foreshadowed slightly
Not only that, but if I recall correctly, Yammy never referred to himself as Espada #10. Always Arrancar #10. At least in the Dub.

Aroniero could be a good 0 Espada. His whole death could be a illusion from Aizen, and he would be hiding while the fights between espadas and captains were happening so he could kill and devour the espada after they were weakened or killed in their fights. And after that he would absorb their powers and become the 0 Espada, since he had the power of all or most of the espada. And all of that would be Aizen's plan to keep half of the captains in hueco mundo.
Kenpachi tried harder against NNOITORA than he did against Yammy, even though they are supposedly five places apart
Kenpachi had to focus all of his spiritual pressure on his sword with both hands to finally break through Nnoitora... Meanwhile I don't even think he used the sword in both hands once again Yammy
I think Kubo just didn't know what to do with Yammy hanging around hueco Mundo. Without a power up of some kind the 10th espada would have died against all the captains there.
The best thing of Yammy was Kukkapuuro. You forgot Kukkapuuro, he even had a arrancar number.
In the games Yammy is just a big mass of reiatsu. Just because you have reiatsu doesn't mean you have technique that's why Zaraki said it was boring. You just have to cut him until he's dead, which probably took a lot of time because it was a lot of reiatsu to cut. He will miss every cero (which is a basic hollow skill) as long as you have at least decent evasion and movement speed so you don't even need to worry about his damage output.

That really was a horrible twist. Yummy was played to be too Goofy for him to be zero. I agree, wonderweiss should've been Zero over Yammy. Plus Zero yammy wasn't even good and one of his worst designs.
The dude with the tentacles replaced Grimmjow as six when (Grimmjow lost his arm) which means that they have more reitsu then almost half of the espada.
He wasn't the strongest
Another reason Ichigo had trouble with Yammy’s released state was having less than half of his reiatsu, as he indicated to Unohana on the way to Fake Karakura by what little remained of his Bankai outfit. Orihime could quickly heal his injuries, but not his reiatsu.

Defending Yammy:
1- The concept of Yammy being the weakest espada for most of the arc and being revealed as the strongest at the end with his 10 tatoo transforming into 0 is a good ideia.
2- There was some foreshadowing for this twist. After being beaten up in his first Arrival in the human world Ulquiorra says the he is not able to defeat their enemies "in that form". In his Second Arrival in human world he introduces himself as "Arrancar 10" instead of "Espada 10", that connects to the fact that 10 is not a espada number as Yammy revealed later (Espada numbers go from 9 to 0), And when he appears to help Ulquiorra to fight Ichigo in Hueco mundo, Ulquiorra told him to take care of the captains, and that is weird because stronger espadas were defeated by them, so why would Ulquiorra send the weakest of the espada to take care of the captains (that gives us a hint at his true power level).
3- He is stronger than people give him credit. His reiatsu being the biggest of the espada already makes him the most powerfull because It gives him the most powerfull reiatsu based attacks ( his Balas and Ceros were the most massive and powerfull that we saw from the espada, and we didn't even saw Cero Oscuras and Gran Rey Cero).
It also makes him able to negate powerfull attacks from other espada, like Respira from Barragan.
And according to the databooks he has the biggest brute strengh and the second hardest Hierro of the espada. All of that mixed with his huge durability and his Power of growing bigger and more powerfull as he gets angry makes him very Op despise his weak points (speed and inteligence).
4- Yammy actually put up a difficult fight, in his second form he was able to fight both Kenpachi and Byakauya at their full power at the time and badly wound them. The proofs for that are:
Both Kenpachi and Byakauya have blood all over their body, meaning that both were involved, The medical group says that they are badly injured despise them acting like they were normal, and they both used their full power because Byakauya started use his Bankai when he was going to fight Kenpachi and he would not go back to shikai to fight Yammy Second form, and Kenpachi can be seen whithout the Eyepatch when they arrived at Soul Society.
5- The reason for Kenpachi to say that the fight was a bore was probably due to the fact that he was forced to fight with Byakauya as a duo to take out Yammy.
6- Yammy said that he could become even bigger and more powerfull if he got angrier. That problably didin't happen because both Kenpachi and Byakauya were already having trouble with that form and they realized that If they let Yammy release one more time they would die, and because of that they both used their most powerfull attacks with all their strengh to kill him before he could evolve further. Or Yammy at some point stopped at getting angry, either because he was feeling sad at Ulquiorra' s death or his fight was interrupted by his dog witch calmed him down. Or maybe it could be all that at the same time.

I was really hoping the anime woulda expanded his fight and made his reveal worth a bit more. I woulda loved to see the anime show more of the kenpachi and byakuya with him.

I actually didn't know that Espada was ranked based on Reatsu before this video. I was always wondering why Harribel was 3 when her resurreccion was a lot more underwhelming compared to others imo. But this actually makes a lot more sense as to why everyone else was ranked the way they were

If they wanted to make him showcase his rage have him display a friendship to the apathetic Ulquiorra throughout the arc. Ulquiorra eventually dies, Yammy goes berserk having lost what we would know as his best friend. Then BOOM have his personality do a crazy 180 and give him more dimensions.
I swear if Yammy was compressed like kid Buu he would be the scariest Espada to come across especially after being a punching bag.
When I saw the reveal for the first time I thought it was going to be a battle like the Strawhats vs Oars where every available character in Hueco Mundo needed to team up against him in an all out 1 vs everyone team battle scenario. Everyone would have to combine there powers in cool and unique ways. It would have destroyed Las Noches and transitioned outside. It would have been cool to see everyone get a moment no matter what they had been contributing up to that point, but no we get Kenpachi and Byakuya off screening him.
Well in the end Kubo wrote him as the 0 espada, so he was in fact the strongest one canon wise. I think we can't discount the remarks the shinigami soldiers make as Kenpachi and Byakuya return, saying even though they are walking fine, they are heavily injured, as we can see with them covered in blood and torn clothing. Just because Kenpachi said it was boring, doesn't mean it was easy or that Yammy was weak, he always says stuff like that. And to be fair, it did take two of the strongest captains working together to bring him down in the end, so that's a testament to Yammy's threat level. Kenpachi's eyepatch was also shown removed when they got back. Kind of sucks he was off-screened indeed, but as you said we already seen both of these captains fight a lot already so that's probably the main reason it was skipped over, in addition to possible time constraints. I also think the small scenes with Yammy's doggo adds a bit more layers and dimensions to his character than you give him credit for, maybe not much, but certainly more than just a one thought blundering punching bag. We know because of Aizen that reiatsu is king when it comes to sheer power and possibilities, so the fact Yammy can store and generate infinite amounts due to his ever rising rage (much like The Hulk), it was easy for me to see why he is the 0 Espada. Also I am not surprised that Zaraki was able to lob off bits of Yammy when Ichigo was barely denting him, I mean, cutting stuff up is kinda his whole thing.
Having said all that, I'm not exactly defending the choice to make Yammy 0 Espada, only that the way he wrote it, makes logical sense. At the very least, I do wish they would have shown the actual battle, if nothing else to see more interactions between Ken-chan and Byakuya, as their chemistry/rivalry is amazing.
ya I actually totally agree. both Byakuya + Kenny are incredibly proud, too much to really be like "whew boy that battle took a lot outta me, what an enemy.." ish vibes.. so of course they'll downplay it heading back to Soul Society. I mean the manga panels show them pretty bloodied up lol. the fact it was mostly off-screened certainly doesn't help Yammy's case, obvs. and ya he was pretty much a Hulk like character, w/the more I'm angry the stronger I'll get. *oh ya w/Ichigo not able to dent Yammy much.. I think ppl forget he was feeling awkward n dejected-some after the Ulquiorra fight, so his inner world surely wasn't on point. and we know that'll effect his strength/how well he'll perform if his mood n heart isn't stable, he has fear or hesitation, sadness etc.

It just seems like a way to separate the weak ichigo plus friends from the caps. If the author can't come up with a reason two make the good guys fight each other then he has to demonstrate the power gap in other ways
